General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Hopefully people don't start pulling numbers shit now that Gura reached the 1M landmark. I think she'd prefer that she doesn't have to remind people with a video about how going "durr number bigger than yours" is stupid and disrespectful as hell.

Also, this HololiveCN stuff is just another example of why the Mainland and the CCP suck massive dick, if you ever needed another reason as to why.

I find Senzawa's transformation into Gura fascinating. For someone known for being drunk and "weed lol", she runs a remarkably clean show. She's only sworn once, she doesn't thirstpost, she plays down attempts in chat to go that way, and she regularly reminds people to engage in healthy habits like drinking water and getting enough sleep. She also feels more "professional," for want of a better word, than the other EN girls; she's good at interacting with chat on a fairly constant basis (although that probably contributes to her getting distracted in Minecraft), she's not constantly having technical issues, she stays in-character and makes use of it (Ina and Ame feel more like straight-up avatars than characters), and when potential drama shows up (i.e., the traced emotes) she deals with it directly.

I'm curious which one is closer to her real personality. She certainly seems more energetic as Gura. Given her prior success, I wonder what made her interested in rebranding/reinventing herself.

Also, if people haven't they really should listen to her rendition of Fly Me To The Moon, and if they've already listened to that they should check out the slightly slowed-down version. She's a seriously good singer and I wish she had a chance to do more English-language music.

Coco sent her congratulations to Gura.

So from what I heard, hololive cn is officially dead. All except for doris decided to go independent. Since all but artria doesn't stream on any other platform aside from bilibili, it's highly unlikely that they'll have the chance to reach out to foreign viewers.
Edit: Nevermind, I got brain damaged and forgot I said that just a few hours ago already. Since this thread lean a little heavily on the hololive side, this time I'll come bearing nijisanji's news.

Due to recent drama, yuzuki roa lost 10k subs over the last 4 days. Considering her growth rate is 1k sub every 3~4 days, that's roughly 1 month of hard work going down the drain. Her lastest stream was 2 weeks ago and last I checked, it was about 4k like to 8k dislike. The like/dislike bar has been then disabled.
I guess with a company of 100+ talents, it's impossible for it's to be rainbow and sunshine all the time but rather than blame roa, I'd rather the fans call out ichikara if the rumored power harrasment were true.

There's an interesting thought experiment: if you were going to simp for vtubers (or any creator in general), would you rather give it to: A) the ones you enjoy the most; B) the ones who bust their ass the hardest; C) the ones who need the most support?

All three are tempting to me. I want to give my money to Okayu because she's great and I could watch every stream. I'd like to support Coco because she's probably the hardest working woman in the company. I want to help Choco because she doesn't get nearly as much love.
A is the best option because the reason I enjoy them is because of the specific kind of content they put out. I don't like to shit on any creators because creating is really goddamn tough to do and requires you to be a certain level of crazy. This is why B is kind of invalid because you tend to work hard no matter what you do. C is just a no go because then you get DSP, someone who invents problems for themselves in order to keep getting gullible idiots to pay for it.

Calli kind of hits all 3 notes for me but my reasons for supporting her are much more personal. She got me back into writing and watching her streams helped me start my own journey of self-discovery, so I feel like I kind of owe her a life debt for helping me get back on the path. Sounds incredibly stupid and I'm prepared to get raked over the coals for being a turbosimp but I couldn't give less of a fuck since following her genuinely helped improve my life. As kind of a testament to that, I nearly stopped caring about DSP, even as a form of morbid entertainment. I'd rather be more positive than just spend time pointing and laughing at a failure.
I believe that Hololive talent are probably independent contractors in the same way that many agency artists and actors are. I'm not an employment lawyer but the terms that hololivers work under seem to match other Japanese entertainment industry talent contracts.
It's probably some weird middle ground between contract work and full employment as talent. My basis comes off listening to Trash Taste discuss the pitfalls of being not only foreign, but also an independent contractor in Japan and the circumstances related to the acquisition of Holohouse. From what I remember, Coco was denied on the spot for a few of them because she was both foreign and had listed her employment as "Youtuber" or something similar; the only way they were able to get into the place they have now is because Kanata cosigned for it and probably listed her employment as "entertainer" under Cover Corp. In Japan, landlords care less about whether you can pay and more about whether you have a job, and being an independent contractor, to a lot of them, isn't a "real job." Maybe I'm a bit crazy but that's how I'm connecting dots.

One unrelated note: after a sojourn over to the subreddit, despite there being no official announcement, it seems that Cover is completely closing its doors to the Chinese market. As for their talent, they have to make a decision on what they wish to do within a few weeks time; graduate completely and leave the idol industry, establish themselves with another agency within China, or go completely independent with their characters. I have no idea what kind of precedent this sets since it seems one big part of the contract that Cover has with all its talent is that they own the character while the performer is free to come and go as they wish. It might just be an exception due to the whole situation, but if Cover lets Artia keep her character, that could mean a lot of things for future departures. I don't think anyone currently wants to leave hololive, but if someone like Coco decided on it, she could probably put up a fair argument as to why she can take Coco with her back to Kson.

Can i have a rundown on this yuzuki roa drama?
It has to do with the recent graduation of Kingyozaka Meiro. I made a post about it back when it was fresh.
One of their new livers, Kingyozaka Meiro, who has made her debut just 3 months ago, seems to have been fired graduated for breach of contract. The Keemstar of vtubers Narukami made a video a few days ago speculating that the drama has to do with another Nijitoober Roa bullying Meiro into dropping her accent because it sounded too similar to hers and the management supported Roa. Neither Ichikawa nor Roa have said anything about this and people are demanding answers, Roa's archive of the latest stream has been negrate bombed. This was not handled well by Ichikawa.
I'll add the new info that has come out - Ichikara and Roa both released their statements about 2 days later, more or less they confirmed that Roa submitted the request for the accent change and contacted Meiro herself, but then there was a complete communication breakdown between the two and that Meiro was fired for first sending confidential company communications to a friend who then leaked it to Nakurami and that she requested to be graduated 2 times earlier before flaking and deciding that she'll still continue.
Narukami has released a new video about this yesterday but I didn't have time to watch it, from what I've heard from second hand sources he said not to give Roa so much hate because most of the blame is on the management's inability to reconcile the differences between Roa and Meiro. Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't watched the video myself to confirm this.
In any case this was a disaster for Nijisanji and anyone involved. A new liver, Meiro, has been graduated and is basically unemployable due to the multiple NDA breaches if she wants to try again in another agency, Roa's goodwill and image of a cute sweet demon girl with a heart of gold is absolutely ruined and the image of Nijisanji is stained, not to mention that there were rumors floating around about a bad working environment for a long time which have been somewhat proven with this.

Man this hololive and nijisanji stuff sure is rife with scandals and dramas. Good thing i dont get too invested with either of them as i only watch that boiling kettle.

Hololive is more of an emotional rollercoaster; for everything good that has happened within the company this year, something awful has followed shortly after; it's like clockwork that they can't go a month without some sort of crisis following an important or big announcement.

Nijisanji's controversy seems like a bunch of dirty laundry getting aired out all the time.

and she regularly reminds people to engage in healthy habits like drinking water and getting enough sleep.

This is hilarious considering she has streamed without eating anything to the point that her stomach rumbling can be heard in some streams

Edit: gorillion million dollars to give her a nose also her horns are not attached to her head, they float like Akirose twintails

What make the two different from one another?

Give me one reason to go watch Pokimane, besides her average look she got nothing else, the vtubers can sing, play games or ever draw, and her fandom is so toxic that not even the chinese wanted to join with them to annoy cover when the taiwan apocalypse happened

In my case i found her to be meh at best, she is not interesting in my book

Even if roa considered the "demon world dialect" an integer part of her character, it's not like clashing character background is unprecedented. Takamiya Rion and Asuka Hina were friend irl before they even become a vtuber, debut at the same time, share the same illustrator and go to the same school in their backstory. That's why hina used to wear the same uniform as rion.
It's a good thing the backstory of vtuber can be as bizzare and flexible as they wanted. When they're no longer on speaking term, they decided to give hina some "character development". She claimed to have lost her memory due to a magical experiment gone wrong, including that of rion, transfer school and got a new design.
And to be fair, it's not like meiro is entirely faultless in this either. If the official documents ichikara released were true, then while roa character got damaged, meiro has become basically unhireable.

On an unrelated note, hololive en once again proved themselves to be peak comedy through no effort of their all.
