I definitely think tweeting that at Sony and PlayStation was a last ditch effort in getting one for free. No doubt in my mind that he's jealous that someone with ties to Sony got one instead of him, but when Phil publicly shits on gaming figures and companies all the time on Twitter and Twitch, he should fully expect to get nothing in return.

What's hilarious about this is SBM isn't even a big streamer like Ninja or Disrepect. And even HE got something early.
So (to me at least) it seems like this tweet by SBM is implicitly shitting on DSP's narrative of the "big guys" always getting stuff for free/in advance.

Because he is hardstuck in his ideology that streaming 'hot new releases' is how you pull in the bucks.

Which is completely counter intuitive to the community he has built around himself where:
- he is sustained by a small inner circle of people that dump their wallets on his table and artificially inflate his sub count
- he actively discourages new growth. Rather than growing his community, he wants what he has to just give more and more, so he squeezed harder and harder

And then we have Phil, who can draw on both the virgin and chad sides of the power. Truly a man to be reckoned with.

I think he goes for newer titles because he knows that some of them are merciful compared to the games of yesteryear.

Also, Phil loves to feel special, even when it involves something he hates.

He's not entirely wrong about losing out on opportunities thanks to his rep, though obviously he leaves out the part where he earned it.

We're getting a bit hypocritical here

The same fair use freedumbs that protect phil when streaming a game are the same freedumbs that allow restreamers like tevin to exist and arguably the same freedumbs that protect this site, and I need my internet toilet to always be available for shitposting.

It's funny to see Phil sperg out at the thought of having to pay even more money for a license though.

You can't have full fair use but eliminate the ones you don't like unfortunately.

Phil has many sponsorship opportunities. Back a decade ago, he was too white hot popular to sell himself out to a sponsor or do collaborations with any smaller video producers. Plus he was a business major, he knew what he was doing. Partner with a sponsor? They would take a cut of his money. Better idea, sell numberless clocks and beer steins with "King of Hate" on them! Pure profit!

There are certainly companies that would pay Phil. Better Help, Blue Apron , hell even Raid Shadow Legends. These guys will pay anyone to shill for then. The Nostalgia Critic even shills for Stamps.com and some tuxedo rental company. Phil could shill Ridge Wallets.

Phil is pretty good at shilling garbage. Look at his Evo Hell stream. Look at his 1up Box videos. Look at when he thought he was getting a gamer chair. Look at him trying to sell his statues. "This Guile statue is very rare and valuable. Worth hundreds of dollars. It is a great investment. And it's hardly even broken!"

I’m sure it’s Pavlovian conditioning in effect. Back when he was with Machinima, he would get a breakdown on what each video earned. This is how he knew how much he owed John Rambo on their collaboration videos until they conveniently quit doing that. No doubt Philip saw ‘[Video Game] Pt. 1’ got more money than ‘[Video Game] Pt. 2 - 798’. He’s not so much stuck in an ideology as he is trained like an animal.
