While certainly there is a cultural component and the effect of poverty which has resulted in our black neighbors doing...not so well, the statistics seem to indicate a trend that no matter whether they find themselves in a shitty situation or an ideal situation, wherever they live, their communities will be embroiled with crime, violence, broken homes and other forms of dysfunctional, anti-social behavior. Poverty, culture and shitty education most definitely play a role and I don't doubt it for a minute. But if you compare the most impoverished, broken, lack-of-opportunity areas in this country, in pretty much every single case, you'll find higher rates of violent crime in predominantly black areas. Impoverished white areas have plenty of crime, but the crimes themselves differ. Drug trafficking, theft and domestic violence are big problems in impoverished white communities, no doubt. But crimes like murder, rape, armed robbery and assault are almost always much more common in impoverished black majority areas.
I guess my point is, racism doesn't form in a vacuum, and it definitely doesn't develop overnight. Nobody hates another race simply because they look different, or because they talk differently, or because they wear dreadlocks. Quite often, I've found, some of the reasons are actually quite compelling and no matter how you filter the statistics, it's nigh impossible to refute. I would [and I imagine everyone else would, too] like it if the black community proved me wrong, got their shit together, and began to address the problems in their communities and weed out the bad apples of their own volition. They're really the only ones who could do it, and no amount of 'reparations' or tax revenue or policing or stern lectures will get it done. They have to do it themselves. Most of the "prejudiced" people you'll met have infact tried the "let's all hold hands and sing kumbayah, coexist maaaann" method at least a few times. Hell, Gen X, Millennials and Zoomers have all been raised and thoroughly educated to do just that. I know I certainly tried it for a long time, hell, I was a hippie during high school and went out of my way to try and make friends with a variety of people. I found that, in many cases, they didn't want to be friends, they didn't even want to be amicable, and in many cases they either just tried to shake me down, stole my shit, or expected something out of me for nothing. That kind of idealism, while pleasant and a nice thought, isn't very utilitarian and in many cases could get you hurt or even killed. It has before. Not only that but it's rather naive.
The black community wasn't always the way it is today. Yes, there always was a "black underclass," but not only was it not as terribly behaved, but the rest of the community was openly embarrassed by it and black community leaders railed against it. Prior to the Great Society and the widespread adoption of certain ideas introduced by the Black Power movement (and promoted by dumb white leftists), the black community was doing pretty well -- a very low rate of out-of-wedlock births/broken families (actually lower than the white rate), a high employment rate, a truly impressive increase in mass literacy, and near universal religiosity. I'm not denying there may be biological factors that hinder their success, but I believe that cultural changes are largely to blame for shattering the black community and producing the results we see presently.
Perverse economic incentives (welfare) normalized unemployment and gave women housing and money for popping out kids without forming stable marital bonds. This led to mass fatherlessness, disappearance of the traditional work ethic, and a sense of entitlement to handouts. But perhaps even more damaging was the ideological shift that started at the same time and is the direct progenitor of the Critical Race Theory/antiracism movement of today. The black community was led by a bunch of retarded commies into embracing anti-intellectualism, entitlement, separatism, and a disdain for respectability. Suddenly every societal standard and norm was gleefully tossed out the window, and blacks were allowed and even encouraged to behave in anti-social and self-destructive ways. Valuing academics and working hard became "acting white," being articulate became a sign of inauthenticity, socializing outside the black community became traitorous, and anything but total obsequiousness by whites became "oppressive." This is why we see stuff like the push to eliminate standardized testing because of "racism" -- society has totally failed to hold blacks to any standard, and unfortunately they've been mostly happy to exploit this. I do agree with you that their outcomes will only improve if the black community addresses its issues internally, and that the chances of that happening anytime soon are quite low. I think the best thing whites can do for them is to stop coddling them and stop indulging the pleas for reparations, stop the endless lowering of standards, and stop the weird, masochistic self-flagellation. The best thing for them right now would be for the spigot of white guilt to immediately run dry.
