That doesn't have anything to do with tipping, though, does it? Just a variation on their hype train nonsense: "The streamer controls the activation threshold for bits/gifted subs."
The current twitter bitching says it'll be expanded into tipping as well. Twitch is well determined to run their shit straight into the ground this year.

My favorite part of today's rant starts here (at 36:30), and it goes batshit crazy over the following 4 minutes.
Phil gives his standard rant about why all of this is such a terrible practice, how sponsorships and free merch are detrimental to the industry as a whole.
Then the problems start...

Phil says that years ago, he did and said some things that were not appealing to a mass audience. He did these things for shock value to maintain an audience on YT.
So... did the audiences like it or not...? Were you real or fake for all those years? Was it acceptable or not?

Phil then says he was always be "indie... independent". He will never have financial backing from one of these companies, he will never have sponsorship from these companies, you will never see him get a console early, you will never see him 'get a freebie'... it's very rare, if and when a company chooses to do anything with regards to a sponsorship or a partnership with Phil.
So... what about Hori? Spawn Seats? Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? "It's very rare?" So these things do happen? These things that you said will never happen and that you're completely against? And you accept them?

Phil says this happens with good reason. A lot "has to do with him". Some of it doesn't. Some of it has to do with his trolls. "Who try to go and ruin all of these opportunities for me." But when you're an outspoken critic of these mainstream industry practices, the companies don't want to work with you.
So... Phil's narrative here has become so fucked up that midway through this rant, he realized he needed to remind everyone that he was also a victim, in addition to the independent moral crusader. Normally, he keeps those two rants on the same topic separate, this time he spun 180, mid rant, then spun another 180 to finish.

Either Phil wanted sponsorship opportunities, and the trolls robbed him of this opportunity and he is a victim.
OR, Phil has always been against these practices, so the trolls have accomplished nothing, or have actually helped him stay on his moral path by keeping sponsors away.
It literally cannot be both. But Phil wants to be both a victim, and indomitable, and he wants those both on the same day, in the same 5 minutes.

I also just want to say that I hadn't seen the tweet with the rocks before the prestream, so when he started teasing the box he received, I absolutely believed that he had duped Sony into sending him a console, had worked this behind the scenes... while explicitly begging for money for the console he knew he was going to get for free. That absolutely seemed like something he would do. Note that he later expressly says how to go about requesting a free console from Sony. He can't find Paypal's customer service line, but he knows that procedure? He absolutely tried.

Then I saw the tweet and realized that it was a bitter joke that paved the way to clout chasing his fan before shitting on him. Which is an even more Phil thing to do. This whole thing just emphasized what a sack of shit he is from any angle.
would be phil if he was a hypocrite

i remember when he streamed dark souls 3 before anyone else. yet here he is talking about how this is such a horrible practice

Phil's delusional mind will never let him acknowledge the actuality of the situation he currently inhabits regarding copyright law because the reality that his entire ability to monetize and broadcast video games exists at the sufferance of companies ignoring their copyright ownership is too terrifying to him. They could literally claim all his video gameplay YouTube videos and block him from broadcasting video games at any moment if they felt like it.

Filming yourself reading a digital 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book out loud does not somehow confer copyright ownership, distribution rights, or the ability to resell that product.

The only thing Phil can claim, his "art" if you will, are his facecam footage that he films, his audio track that he records, and any videos he's made that are actually covered by Fair Use like his review videos or his year end 'Best of' videos.

Why would a game company ever legally give a purchaser the right to resell their product in broadcast footage or confer copyright ownership to each individual recording their playing of it for commercial purposes?

The funny thing is anyone could rip Phil's videos, edit out his audio, facecam, and stream overlay, upload that to YouTube and claim all his videos. He cannot take you to court because he legally doesn't own the video game footage. YouTube would not care. They would see you are claiming content that is uploaded to your channel and side with you because you pulled the trigger first on the claim.

Regarding the whole games copyright streaming thing, you guys know those VTubers right? Those khlawnz that make annoying anime sounds in front of a facerig and don't even show their face, unlike Ahnest Dave? One of the agencies, Hololive, which is probably most popular overseas, had to private a shit ton of videos of their VTubers because they could actually get sued in Japan for this, so they had to go out and get permission for the companies retroactively, so they can unprivate those videos, as well as get permission for any new games. Now this is Japan of course and their fair use laws are most likely different, but since it's such a grey area in the US companies don't go after streamers because they figure that the courts in the US would side with the streamer(s) rather than the companies.

I thought about this like a year ago when DSP was really shitting on tevin for restreaming him. I’d just play something simple like Tetris and place it over Phil’s video except the face cam, would’ve loved to see his reaction to that and it’s not like anything’s lost. Outside of fighting games I’ve never actively payed attention to what was happening in the game while watching one of them illegal restreams

The fact that Phil appears to know who Slowbeef is goes a long way to prove that he really does remember every single time someone has ever annoyed him, a book of grudges if you will.
Always remember this is the same idiot who came onto the internet shitting on everybody his little piggy heart desired. From what I remembered that list includes:
Mitch Dryer
I-Justine
Toby Turner
AlphaOmega Sin
The entire west coast scene of the FGC(Fighting Game Community)
PewDePie
Dr. Disrespect
Ninja
Any gaming company including CapCom, SquareEnix, Infinity Ward, Nintendo, etc, etc
Any detractors, critics and/or trolls
his own fanbase (see ex. "Xbox live fan ridicule")

TBH I wouldn't be shocked if this moron literally had a board and/or book of names of those who have dared to cross paths with super hyper ultra chosen alpha chad that is DSP...

During the whole weird ProJared cuckquean divorce dick pic disaster spectacular Phil was one of the first to immediately go and dunk on ProJared. I bet his dopamine level spiked as soon as he heard that ProJared had some massive drama.

It's easier to construct a list of people who he hasn't shit on yet, here I'll take a go at it:

See after today I learned that SBM is more known than I thought. I just wrote him off as another Phil fan but he has some clout.

Despite his fans being absolute goons, there is SBM who has some foot in the door. It's a possibility Phil is sniffing his asshole the same way he praises known FGC members online when he fights them.

So Phil is an absolute ass kisser here which is why he's showing some sort of respect towards Blindman. Same way with Sir Dorito Pope. He's a lil clout chasing faggot hoping to get networking scraps.

If blindman was just any other dude, Phil would treat him just like every other fan of his. Phil sees blindman as useful and its kinda sad because the man is disabled.
He is a blind man, Phail is a walrus, koo koo katchoo
Lmao he's currently ranting about his "transformative work" shit. He's so wrong, he was years ago and he's still wrong now.
"Anything that's not interactive isn't transformative."
Dude. Come on.
Sargon already proved him wrong. lol

Phil absolutely has way more of a problem with his priorities than he does his memory. Put a classic platformer in front of him that he has played on camera before, he still won't know what to do. Quiz him on wrestling, he'll probably impress.

Mind you, it's normal to forget shit you don't care about, but Phil isn't honest about what matters to him, and besides that, his forgetfulness of shit that doesn't matter to him is way beyond normal. I've never touched a Madden game, and I don't watch football ever, but I guarantee you I can still figure one out faster than he can.

It has to be both his commentary and his ridiculous obsession with his scheduling. The former of which is, and I mean this without a hint of irony, on par with an episode of Blue's Clues (that is to say, when he isn't complaining or begging).
He's just a really repetitive person as well, always making the same excuses, always saying the same shit over and over. Sure he plays a variety of games but it's always the same games at the same time. Pre-stream is the exact same speech time and time again, even though its duration has stretched well over 2 hours by now. Phil prides himself on "consistency", and he's right...only perhaps not in the way he thinks he is. You tune into a DSP stream and you know exactly what you're getting, because it's always the same fucking thing. The only variety is how much he trips over himself trying to come up with his latest lie.
Maybe some people want to eat the same food. Twice a day. Six days a week. For the rest of time.

Edit: Double
Twitch is testing making tipping more in-platform and they'll take half of that sweaty digital pud cash: https://tw.tinf.io/zachbussey/status/1272201006949031936?s=19

I wonder if this is what defeats Phil?
"Guys, look. I'm in a really bad spot financially right now. I really need you guys to interact e-transfer me at least $6000 by the end of the stream. That helps the most right now. But you can also e-mail me pictures of your credit card, front AND back, otherwise don't waste my time!"

snort

"Alright?"

For the record, Phil is still trying to milk that tweet from the guy who said streamers should pay licensing fees. He just tweeted about how the guy had to change his bio because he lied about being a creative director on google stadia.

It's always funny to see Phil thinking he is making some sort of comeback to his old popularity. See the answers to his tweet, most of them are talking about "wow, EVEN PHIL", "I hate the guy but he's right", "broken clock" etc. They make it clear that they think Phil is a piece of shit/dumb content creator, even though they agree with him, but he still sees that as some sort of victory and an increase in his popularity. Truly delusional.

Those kind of comments peeve me a little because he's mostly just parroting what others are saying while piling on an already established bandwagon.
As for his "transformative work" logic, I should be able to buy loads of copies of a Goosebumps Choose Your Adventure book, circle in all of my answers with a sharpie, and then sell them in stores as my own product. Or hell, take any book and scribble in annotations throughout all the pages. "SO shocked that Dumbledore died!"
Maybe I can write "I need money to buy groceries!" on book covers in totally unnoticeable bright red ink. Works for Phil.

I can't figure out if the always bittersweet "victories" Phil is reduced to accepting are more hilarious, or more pathetic. Like how he feels relevant because a bunch of autists make fun of him on the internet, or when he feels "unkillable" because he's still wasting away on camera doing a job he hates and somebody he didn't like is doing something way better than that.

I find it a bit pathetic considering he's getting his jollies about getting upvotes on Twitter of all places; A cesspool where he gets most of his news. Shows you a lot where he thinks his thoughts are so unique when people give him virtual points when reality it's because he's DSP.

He's never going to have a comeuppance ever. I just think of the ProJared situation all over again where he thinks he is being redeemed because he said one good safe thing about one particular subject that isn't unique at all to him.

These pats on the back are because he managed to not tweet something stupid; Which happens once in a blue moon.

Edit: Prestream today he's still getting giddy over the Stadia guy changing his profile. I guess that's a big deal for people sucked into that shithole?
