Not quite. Spoon theory was made by a person suffering from lupus and was used to demonstrate what it's like to live with chronic sometimes debilitating pain where some days you're normal and some days it's a struggle to make it to your front door. It was since coopted by people with mental health problems to explain what it was like to live with a chronic mental disorder. And then further coopted by people who have no problems at all but wanted a cute way to say they were too tired to do something.

Such is the way of the internet.

Oh, I didn't even read the whole thing. I got to the bit about her knowing people which gives her the authority to speak on their behalf and couldn't hear anything but "lololol" for the rest of it. Oh, I didn't even read the whole thing. I got to the bit about her knowing people which gives her the authority to speak on their behalf and couldn't hear anything but "lololol" for the rest of it. Something about that sort of smug, soapboxing sense of superiority immediately makes me unable to take that person and their arguments seriously - especially after our back and forth in the Chloe thread.

I know about the spoon theory, but is there any logical reason why they use "spoons"? Is it just to be cute or what? I don't see how saying "I'm out of spoons" is any different from saying "I'm too tired," regardless of what legitimate disorders you have.

I guess what I'm asking is, is there some level on which this spoon thing is clever that I'm not getting?

Hopefully not straying too far off-topic to explain, but pretty much.

"Spoons" is from the original post about the spoon theory, where the author (who has chronic pain, IIRC) was at a restaurant with a friend while trying to explain it. She grabbed some spoons from nearby tables and used them to illustrate her point.
Even though they could easily say "I'm out of energy", spoons sounds cuter, makes you feel cool for using "jargon", and has built in validation for their feelings by referencing an accepted idea. When you say "I don't have the spoons", people say "What the hell does that mean" and they find out the Spoon Theory and begin to associate that sort of chronic pain with the way you feel.
I think the Spoon Theory became particularly popular among tumblrites because someone created a "Spoon meter" you can put on the sidebar of your blog.

I don't have any ties with Laurelai OOI, she is actually certifiably fucked up and an abuser. I had her on FB for a while and she proceeded to sperge out any time I entered a community she was also in, saying she was uncomfortable with my presence and badgering the mods to ban me before I even got to post much(this was after she blocked me on FB since I called her out on attacking me on her timeline, who knows why she even unblocked me). She does this sort of thing a lot. She's a lair and a rapist and manipulates people around her with a twisted cult of personality. I'd appreciate if people are going to have threads like this, they at least be honest instead of throwing in whatever sensationalist wank.

Also I don't know why people are ribbing on my views for sex workers. The groups I tend to advocate with are usually ones that don't have as much of a voice online, or have trouble speaking out(due to safety). I don't try to speak over them, and generally just signal boost what I've heard direct from their mouths. Sometimes I overstep, but I try not to. It's a learning experience. But I'm not going to be talked down to about that by the sort of people I'm trying to help defend them from in the first place.

The post about the "8-year old girl in Honduras" is shameful because the laws they're bringing in don't really cut down on trafficking at all. They just punish women by criminalising their workplace. There are also, statistically, relatively few sex trafficking victims in Ireland, compared to sex workers. Most people are trafficked into other industries. Conflating trafficking with sex work is a line that originated from an unholy alliance of religious conservatives and sex worker exclusive radical feminists, two groups i thought this forum wouldn't have much bag with.

It's funny because if i was rallying against sex work I'd be a feminazi. Here's a position where I'm deviating from the stereotype and I still get attacked for it. You can't win tbh. And as usual people are commenting on something they don't really have any expertise on, hwile acting like I'm stupid and have no awareness. At least I try to educate myself. The Roma women I work with certainly don't have tumblrs(though I do know some Roma that do). I actually do real life activism and volunteer work. It's ridiculous to keep pushing me into this box where I'm actually really privileged and out of contact with the world so it's okay to attack me. By that logic - it's okay to attack people like you guys. I've been stalked, abused threatened and assaulted, and have fairly intimate ties with those who've experienced worse. It's fabulously unlikely that I'm more sheltered than the average person on here, though I'm also(again, unlike everyone here) well aware of the privilege I hold over groups like the Roma and Asylum Seekers I've worked with. I'm white, I get welfare. I get by, mostly. But I'm not "privileged" in the sense you mean.

As for anxiety/suicidal behaviour, it is a real thing. And there are a number of trans girls who have been in communities I've also been in bewho have taken their own lives due to bullying, much of it online. People only say what they're saying in this thread to absolve themselves from responsibility in case someone does off themselves. I don't know what sort of experience sugoi-chan has being trans, but it's not like mine, and I suspect not like most trans women. Back when I came out there was no tumblr, and only a small number of trans forums/mailing groups run by unstable individuals.

It's not really anyone else's place to comment on someone's medical history and tell them they're not really suicidal, it's their own fault, etc. You are still responsible for how your words and actions affect others. You can't chalk up what they do entirely to their mental illness, when you've in the past 100% personally responsible for any outbursts they make. If you're going to obsess as much as you're doing about Neurodivergent people it would help to actually do some research instead of clinging to very socially conservative models of mental illness etc. that are convenient for what you're doing to them. I very much doubt anyone here is qualified to made the grand statements they do about others mental health.

I also don't know why people are posting pictures from before HRT, which is a really dishonest means of attacking someone's appearance. There are few things lower than attacking a trans woman's appearance, anyway.
