US US Coast Guard to tackle China 'illegal' fishing in Pacific

The United States said Friday it will deploy Coast Guard patrol ships in the western Pacific to counter "destabilizing and malign" activities by China in disputed fishing grounds of the South China Sea.

Accusing China of "illegal" and "unregulated" fishing, as well as "harassment" of fishing boats from regional countries, White House National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien said in a statement that the US Coast Guard "is strategically homeporting significantly enhanced Fast Response Cutters...in the western Pacific."

These Sentinel class vessels will carry out maritime security operations, including helping fishing boats "in collaboration with regional partners who have limited offshore surveillance and enforcement capacity, and ensure freedom of navigation," he said.

Washington regularly accuses China of breaking international law by sending its warships as escorts for Chinese fishing vessels into the fishing grounds of other countries.

In July, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper slammed a "catalog of bad behavior" in the South China Sea over the previous months and accused the Chinese military of having sunk a Vietnamese fishing boat, harassing Malaysian oil and gas development and escorting Chinese fishing fleets into Indonesia's exclusive economic zone.

O'Brien added that the Coast Guard, which is under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was also studying whether to permanently station several of its patrol ships in the area of American Samoa in the South Pacific.

Last month, Indonesia protested about an incursion by Chinese coastguard ships in its exclusive economic zone, which is situated between its own territorial waters and international waters and where the state claims exclusive rights to exploit natural resources.

China claims almost the whole of the South China Sea as its own, a claim contested by several countries including Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

This is a bigger deal than what it sounds like. China has been aggressively encroaching on everyone else's fishing territories for a while now. The infamous Chinese "Maritime Militia" being one of the key antagonists in this issue. The problem of course isn't limited strictly to contentions over territorial sovereignty, but to the devastating overfishing that the Chinese practice as well. There are many other subjects of dispute, but one should not overlook fishing rights.

International waters belong to everyone, not just the United States. This is YET ANOTHER clear violation of international law by the world's biggest bully and crybaby. China needs food and will not be threatened into a famine.
But they will push everyone else into famines, devastate fish populations and sink boats from other countries also fishing in international waters. I'm just surprised to not be hearing about them dumping gallons of oil in rival waters to poison the fish population out of spite.

They can buy fish from China. Problem solved.

I know this is a joke, but for those not in the know Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) are waters under the legal and internationally recognized sovereignty of their particular nation. The illegal fishing China is doing against Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam are literally a Casus Belli for said countries.

0n top of that those countries don't have the naval power to make China fuck off and if they tried they run the risk of getting steamrolled into Chinese colonies.

I know you're a fucking gimmick poster, but I'd like to just expand on this.

They claim "International Waters" or "Chinese Waters" up to an including all the way up to the West Coast.

They send warships out with them to make sure that they can't be driven off.

Here's another trick they absolutely fucking love: They have long drag drift nets that they let slid out for fucking MILES across the border of the fishing grounds (all of which are agreed by treaty, which China previously signed until they repudiated it in the late 1990s) PRIOR to that country's legal fishing dates.

In the 90's and early 2000's (before the US Navy started running them off) they'd get as close as 2-3 miles from the West Coast.

Another thing that the article doesn't mention is that, completely coincidental I'm sure, where Chinese fishing boats pop up, all of a sudden other nation's fishing boats crop up with "all hands lost at sea" or "found drifting, no crew" or "mystery ship of bloody decks and bunks but nothing bad happened here" with ChiCom brass in odd places where it was missed during the cleanup. They rarely sink the boats, instead let them drift away, then go "Oh, we heard an SOS and responded but boat deserted, we promise" if pressed on how their transponders got close to the fishing boat transponder.

It got bad enough on the NW Coast of the US and Canada that fisherman started hiring mercs to be part of the boat crews because the Coast Guard and US Navy wouldn't do shit until, amusingly enough, Chinese vessels started suffering "Storm damage" and "lost with all hands" and "Mystery Boat of Dead Slants" and China started whining about piracy.

So, yeah, the fucking Chinks can starve. They overfished their shit, they run long line nets into other country's fishing grounds, claim the entire fucking Pacific Ocean as their personal property, kill anything in the ocean. Frankly, I'm surprised they don't eat the fucking garbage that their country floods the Pacific with.

So, Gimmick Poster, it isn't international waters. Its inside the nation's maritime borders, it's the fishing ground agreed to until China overfished their beds and they suddenly needed fish, the ones engaged in violations of maritime and international law all have slanted eyes and names like the sound of someone stringing a banjo, that eat literal garbage.

They need food because their subhuman bugman fuckups who destroyed everything they had, and the famine is their punishment. They can buy food or negotiate fishing rights or die enmasse, preferably the latter, because the world doesn't need more slant eyed garbage eaters eating more bats and bringing the world another plague.

OH!

AND, how about your precious bugman nation quit fucking up everyone's coastlines and the like by "accidentally" polluting it with invasive species of mollusks, algae, and the like?

Just a head's up for those not in the know, but a basic Sentinel-class cutter of the US Coast Guard carries as standard a navalized version of the Bushmaster found on the Bradley in a remote forward mount, and 4 crew-served .50 cal M2A1 machine guns (we finally after about a hundred years got around to upgrading the M2HB with a quick change barrel that doesn't need to be manually adjusted by an armorer when you swap it out). Something tells me there's going to be just a little more firepower than that though on these babies hidden below decks just in case.

If China needs food, they probably should focus on making friends not pissing off every single neighbor and breadbasket state on this fucking planet.
0n top of that those countries don't have the naval power to make China fuck off and if they tried they run the risk of getting steamrolled into Chinese colonies.
Last time China fought Vietnam, they got the same treatment they gave us.

Nixon and Uncle Sam (gloves off) made the NVA repeatedly squeal like Ned Beatty when he was POTUS. It took the Communist congressional democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by screwing over South Vietnam.
