It seems to me like the media wants to kill people with Corona, as it makes a bigger story and more people gather around the media for knowledge of what to do, increasing the value of those media jobs. They sounded the biggest alarm, not when NewYork was participating in a death orgy in December, not when the President announced travel bans, but after the primaries had ended and it was already warming up. Now, after spending the whole summer, the safest time, inside, people are getting cabin fever just in time for winter. And I got a baaaaad feeling about that. Not to be a doomsayer, but the Spanish Flu didn't experience it's REAL second wave, until the winter on 1920. 100 year seasons and all that.

Wouldn't standing out in the freezing cold for hours increase your chances of getting sick??

It does weaken your immune system if you get hypothermia, but cold weather increases the chances of getting sick mainly because cold weather drives more people indoors and spend more time in contact with sick people, which increases transmission. It's important to bring up because I just know there will be fearmongering about how cold weather will magically give everyone COVID so we're going to need even more restrictions or start shaming people for going outside again (although I'd wager a lot never stopped doing that).

In class at college we will spread out in seats or whenever we need to stand, but we still have to keep masks on. Isn't the entire point of being 10 feet apart not having to wear masks?

Also re: nurses. Remember something something high school bitches grow up to be nurses. To be fair though, nursing can be really tough depending on where you work and your specific position, and it is very common for nurses to become "hardened" in the way law enforcement does, but yeah the self-fellating of a lot of nurses was annoying before this COVID stuff. It's not at all easy to deal with death and gore and gross bodily stuff on the daily but you're not a goddess.

This is an incredibly stupid theory. Alarmist headlines get more clicks, sure, but it's not like the editor of your local paper is calling a staff meeting so he can tell all his employees, "Okay we need to make sure that we kill all the people with COVID so that our salaries go up as a result." Papers increasingly pander toward different political tribes because that's the most effective way to stay profitable. If you don't like this, put some money toward news organizations that have better practices, and don't allow yourself to be pandered to.

@JosephStalin - This is solely to answer the question you asked about minorities. In many locations, minorities are contracting COVID at a disproportionately-higher rate than white people. Here in Michigan, our governor and (minority) lieutenant governor spent time this summer bouncing and squeaking over this point and I believe these formed some sort of committee to look into the racial issues behind COVID infections. Yeah, it's both horrifying and an example of SocJus run amok. But that's probably also why many governors are putting minorities at the top of the priority list for vaccines.

Lost in the political posturing, however, is any sort of meaningful research into how much a factor racial differences impact the probability of catching COVID and how many of it stems from the simple lack of healthy practices such as good diet, sleep habits, and personal hygiene -- items that can increase anyone's likelihood of catching COVID regardless of who or what they are.

Raise kids with no exposure to germs in things like this and things like this will become essential.

This is already an issue even without COVID in the equation. A neighbor who had exclusively homeschooled her oldest daughter through grade 8 decided to let her attend the local public high school because of an academic and extracurricular interest not available with her homeschooling group. From what I recall, the girl unfortunately didn't make it through her first semester at the high school and her parents withdrew her from there to have her homeschooled again for the rest of her high school years. Why? She was catching all the colds and illnesses that her peers already had already been sick with and immune to thanks to their previous exposure to those germs in a traditional school environment. That exposure simply doesn't exist in a homeschooling group that consists of less than a handful of families and their school-aged kids that don't spent extensive time with peers outside the immediate group.

Tl;DR - Kids lacking exposure to germs already exist. Shielding them from the outside world more than they already are will exacerbate this.

And have any city leaders pointed the finger of blame at the riots for spreading disease yet? I would mentally give them a gold star if they did.

Many of these cities are Blue-leaning and have equally-Blue mayors who wouldn't dare blame unmasked protestors and rioters for an uptick in COVID, even if it was proven true, lest they be deemed racist or some other -ist for not mollycoddling minorities.

They only listen to it if it reaffirms that we are all fucking dying and going to live like fucking animals.

It probably boils down to some form of confirmation bias. People are acting because someone says they should -- even if the advice being given is based on incorrect logic, facts, or data. At the same time though, any proven facts and figures are lost in a growing quagmire of misinformation which is difficult at best to wade through.

Went to a bar/dance hall last night. First time ever. We had to have masks for entry but after that nobody cared. Only people wearing them was staff. Lots of college kids and people of other ages dancing and hanging out. No social distancing.

People are getting tired of it.

Same where I live. I've been out to bars, restaurants, and people are "social distancing" but only so much. The masks come off, like you said, especially once everyone is drunk enough. It's a shame though since like anywhere, this nonsense has closed off a lot of small bars and eateries for good.

Basically to PL a tad I can confirm, the normies are and have been over it. Majority just want to get on with things. They'll follow the protocol if it means they get to go do human activities like eat and socialize outside of their house, but no one really seems all that concerned beyond the fringe group of paranoid double-masked glove wearers who only leave their house once every two weeks to get groceries like we're living in fucking nuclear fall-out.

I'm in college, and because of all of the immediate lockdowns and school closings, everything that brings me joy was shut down. I had so much planned for the spring semester (I'm in a lot of organizations) and was looking forwards to having a grad ceremony for cc. I am also involved in community organizations and everything planned for them was shut down. I spent two months rehearsing a play only for the show to be canceled completely the week before. My diploma was mailed to me. No plays. No ceremonies. All this work for nothing. No events I had planned. Projects down the drain.

The point I'm making with this powerleveling is that a lot of people didn't willingly give up what makes them happy; the happy things were made to shut down. I understand what you're saying 100%, but when your happy things don't exist anymore, there's nowhere to go out to because "out" is closed, what else is there to do but be at home?

They've been promoting that myth for ages based on highly questionable studies yet somehow this myth makes it's way into the media and into all sorts of government and corporate warnings and adviseries. Many of these studies are based on cases involving false positives, so someone who caught it again never really had it to begin with, or didn't actually catch it again. In any case, the numbers are so miniscule that even if you can catch it again, your odds of doing so are almost nil, like so low you have a greater chance of actually dying from it even if you're a healthy young adult. Curiously, they don't realize that this makes their bleating of "wait for the vaccine" or "herd immunity doesn't work" absolutely idiotic since vaccines would be absolutely useless against a disease you could catch twice.

Now in the long-term, like maybe 12-16 months long, you probably can catch it again since the disease will have mutated enough to avoid your immune system. But because your immune system remembers enough of it from the first time, you're highly unlikely to have a severe case, let alone be hospitalized/crippled/die. Vaccines will need to be produced every year to make sure you don't catch it twice.
