Unpopular Opinions About Western Animation

For real. It doesn't help that many of these cartoons become the basis for surreal fetishes like furry, inflation, etc. Seriously, how man of these fetishes - outside of maybe furry, I guess - existed prior to a lot of these cartoons? Totally Spies for one seem to go through a fetish a week. I'm not sure if a study has been done, but these fetishes that plague deviantart all seem to stem from cartoons in one way or another, which were piloted by perverts in one way or another.
I was about to mention Totally Spies. I'm surprised looking back on it that all those fetishes were able to get a pass. But then again, it's probably because it's French-Canadian.

Fucking Canadians...

It's more strange remembering all those fetishes since when i was a kid i had a specific crush of that brown tomboy.
Anyway, to fill this thread:

ATLA is overrated; many people find the cartoon as a gift of the gods but i found some non-critical flaws along the way, like why a strong character like the Guru lost its value later or Energy Bending in the last battle.

TLOK is a overhated series by many communities and i can understand the real falencies in that one; retcons like hell, anticlimatic final battles in the first & second seasons, a fucking misleading of spirit portals and many other problems; but if you don't care about the lore and only see the main appealing (characters, combat, visuals), yeah, it's okay.

Gravity Falls is truly overrated; i can't stand a chance with cartoons that starting with episodic schedule to returning with a more-lineal one. You see Star vs. The Forces of Evil... another failure who spawns attrocities like Owl House.

OG He-Man/She-Ra aren't too bad despite Mattel using those cartoons to sell toys. Memorable moments and very high memeable scenes (mainly by Skeletor), but more than that, it's not to be taken seriously.

Xavier: Renegade Angel & Duckman are the fathers of Rick & Morty in nihilistic's humor terms. Probably i can be wrong with such a autistic sentence but for now i stand with that.

I can't remember more.

Season 3 of Korra will always be up there for me with some of Last Airbender's best. In many ways you can just watch 3+4 and have a pretty decent show.

I used to fucking love A:TLA when I was younger but grew out of it. Still do look back on it with fond memories, but boy I feel you that it is overrated as shit. We get it. It's awesome. Stop shoving it down my throat.

I didn't like the Legend of Korra as much though because I'm biased, but to each his own.

I didn't like Gravity Falls either (you'd have to PAY me to watch Star Vs. and Owl House). Definitely not one of the Holy Grail of Western cartoons that most people try to make it out to be.

New She-Ra makes me want to check out the old one. Characters/art in the new one looks very unappealing to me. I don't get why a lot of people like it.

At least Duckman made me belly laugh. Rick & Morty put me to sleep.

Gravity Fall's biggest weakness IMO is its supporting cast. Besides Stan they're all pretty one note. Visually it's beautiful and it's pretty funny so it's definitely worth a watch, but not a 10/10 by any means.

If it was just a show about Grunkle Stan, it would've been better for me.

Another unpopular opinion of mine: aside from Phineas & Ferb, Kim Possible, and the Proud Family, I remember disliking majority of Disney's tv cartoons.

Why is Owl House so hated here? ...valid, even the creator said she would have loved to make it darker but Disney interfered so I can't blame her for that. That being said, the second to last episode misled me into thinking it was going to be way darker than it ultimately ended up being in the last one

For me, it's because it's unoriginal and boring, like most of the Disney tv toons I've seen. Just a lamer version of Harry Potter. Me no like that.

It's weird that despite the country bringing us Ed, Edd, n' Eddy and early-Total Drama, it would also bring us absolutely weird shit. Funny that what I've heard, Sheridan or Capilano are, even to this day, the only two best animation schools in that country, So, what do I know about Canadian animation?

I think the Owl House is alright. However, it still has a shitload of problems, especially what you mentioned, the second to final episode of Season 1. I am still curious where they're gonna go from there by the second season. Unless it'll be like when Daron Nefcy fucked over Star vs. by the second season and the remaining series. I doubt that might be the case, but I won't be surprised if it did happen by any means.

Now I'm pissed that you didn't like Fillmore, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Buzz on Maggie, Replacements, or Fish Hooks. But even then I still do agree.

My problem is her actually, i saw the preview of the show and hating Star vs. FoE, of course i gonna hate that too.
Anyway, see this: Dana being Dana
She have all the possibilities only to being a close friend of Alex Hirsch. Meanwhile artists are starving to death finding a decent job... well, not literally but you know the feel.

Xavier is clever as hell but not deep in the slightest.

Typical Dana at her worst. Very similar to Nefcy's obvious shipping materials used in her show (made by fans) just to interrupt that show's flow. Oh, and considering that I mentioned her...

>working for a new show on Nickelodeon
>Nick doesn't have anything on except for SpongeBob or the boring Loud House

Anyway, yea the Owl House is fine but the creator Dana has, is, and will always be a hyprocite and full of shit.

Gravity Falls is a good show, but everyone involved in it is just way too proud of themselves for having been involved in it. Especially the fans. especially the fans.

Owl House feels like it was made by that one girl in your anime club who is way too into Utena and who you know masturbates to Hetalia and Ouran Host Club.

Along those lines, Star Vs. The Forces of Evil feels like it was made by that same girl after a brick fell on her head.

Now I'm pissed that you didn't like Fillmore, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Buzz on Maggie, Replacements, or Fish Hooks. But even then I still do agree.

Ha ha ha, don't forget Growing up Creepie and American Dragon: Jake Long!

Now I don't mind me some Ed, Edd, n' Eddy and Total Drama. Wayside School and Braceface were Canadian, too? If so, then I suppose Canada isn't all that bad...

I remember liking Fish Hooks at one point when I was younger because it reminded me of SpongeBob but then again, I liked just about anything that was like Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network.

Yeah, the GF crew's entitlement turned me off from the show even more. Though that's surprising, considering that I still like Ren and Stimpy...

As for the creator of OH, don't forget to add Sailor Moon into the mix (I love that show to death but that's the wrong thread for praising about that...). Or is that meant for the creator of Star Vs.? Honestly, I don't understand why that anime attracts these types of people.

Another unpopular opinion: Adult Party Cartoon wasn't even that bad.

Let me explain that matter:
In anime, there's a genre called Magical Girl, popularized by Sailor Moon in the 90's and more since the creator is a woman.
It's episodic and contains more "comedy" than "drama". Generally the plot is about a protagonist being inept in their ordinary life but stronger when the plot calls in. Basically (at least for me) is the "feminism" contrapart of Shonen; not masculine attributes in those characters and being their own.
Star vs. FoE falls in that, and the best part of that is... like Steven's Universe with Utena, they're less appealing than the main influences.

I'm aware of the genre SM came from, but hadn't considered that aspect of its appeal. I guess that's why most of these types are drawn to the genre like flies to light.
