@constitution respecters, how do you reconcile the fact that Liberia has the America constitution word for word but is one of the poorest countries in Africa? You can have "the best" laws in the world, but so long as your people are shit the country will be shit. And you can have the worst laws in the world but so long as the people are great the country will be great. With this fact evident, I fail to see how bringing that constitution north will make the country a better place when it is inherently the people that make a country nice to live in, not the laws.

No, most nations just do it to look less like the shitholes they are, hence they make some imitation of the U.S. Constitution and then don't do shit with it. Even the USSR under Stalin had a "constitution" that looked good on paper, guaranteed most of the rights a real constitution would, and was drafted by legal experts. So what? I don't disagree, but we both know that the people running the USSR were crony felons mentally debilitated with communism. I think this only proves my point more. And maybe it proves your point too because if you have bad laws and don't enforce them that isn't a reflection of the ability of the laws itself, it is a reflection of the people running society.

Liberia doesn't need the right laws, it needs the right people running it. Laws are only good insofar as they help good people do good things
