Absolutely. The internet, or more specifically, easy access to image/video hosting ON the internet has made that happen to a lot of hobby/casual interest communities as suddenly what would be just a regular old social misfit becomes a self-important social misfit with a bloated ego, seeing themselves as Captains of their prefered hobby, ready to guide it how it should best be guided and unwilling or unable to see how anyone could have a problem with it.
The foamers run wild and ruin it for the fans.... in any hobby, and it's the fans that suffer because everyone will assume you're with them.
I'm a railfan, I always do my best to take my pictures where I know I'm not trespassing/getting in the way of what is, someone else's job and move along when I'm done, partly out of manners, but also partly out of the fact that after encountering one-too-many-Shaners over the years, the sight of someone trackside with a camera is an invitation to have the cops called on you by the RR because you might be "another one".
Personally, I like it when the crew waves to you, or leaves a door open, a chance to get some humanity in the picture, that's the great thing about photographing the world at large, it's unscripted. And yes, I have encountered people demanding a conductor be fired because he leaned out the door and waved, "ruining" some foamer's Magnum Opus.
