Len has a smattering of knowledge of trains, but by and large, doesn't know shit. Steam engines are a very mature technology, we know all we're ever going to know about them. They're just big purely mechanical devices, nothing more. You don't have to know much to work on a steamer. It's once it's operational and you have to run it safely and maintain it that it gets complicated. Len hasn't got a clue on how to operate one, beyond what he's filmed and what he's read. He'll tell you different though, the amount of bullshit stories he tells about engines he's run, and when is batshit insane. And just for your viewing this evening, a list of all the RR operations Shaner is banned from. Some of these are just preemptive bans, he never did anything there, but they know about him and his shit and want nothing to do with him.
1. Strasburg Railroad
2. Pennsylvania Railroad Museum
3. Wannamaker, Kempton, and Southern
4. Steamtown National Historic Site
5. New York, Susquehanna and Western (Belvidere Delaware)
6. Black River and Western
7. New Hope and Ivyland
8. West Chester Railroad
9. Colebrookdale Railroad
10. Allentown and Auburn
11. Reading Company Technical and Historical Society
12. Project 113
13. Steam Into History
Those listed above and tourist lines, museums, and locomotive restoration projects, all volunteer operations, (except Strasburg) all have banned Shaner.
These listed below are working railroads, they may have historic equipment, and occasionally run passenger trains, but they are for profit freight carriers first.
1. Clinton Terminal Railroad
2. Landisville Railroad
3. Elizabethtown Industrial Railroad
4. SMS Lines
5. Reading and Northern
6. Lackawanna and Western
There you go, 19 railroading institutions that have gone Shaner free. If one person tells you that you are an asshole, they are an asshole. If an entire regional industry is telling you that you are an asshole... you probably are.
