Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Nexpo's delivery was complete dogshit. He spent most of the video spinning a melodramatic sob story, and the actual content was horribly over-censored to the point of almost being non-existent. The actual subject of the video seemed interesting though. I'm considering digging into her more to see if there's a potential thread there.
This is a secondary problem I had with his video. It's actually an issue I have with every kind of video like it- that the "victim" in the situation won't just commit to attacking back. It has to be a melodramatic sob-story, woe-is-me song and dance, wherein the offender is all but completely doxxed, made to look like they have zero recourse, have clearly broken several laws, are harassing everyone under the sun, and need to be curbed- but I don't want you guys to make fun of them.

Such dishonest, blue-balling hackery. I know it can easily be spun as doing what's responsible, but something deep in my gut tells me a refusal to strike back, after going through all that work, means you can't be 100% innocent, and guilt is slowing you down subconsciously.

I recently came across a channel called Fascinating Horror while looking into various theme park accidents (morbid curiosity and the like). He does very concise summaries of various real life tragedies, both historical and modern, which is perfect if you're like me and unable to engage in a 10+ minute video for only 5 minutes worth of content.

When it comes to horror channels I'm personally only interested in events that actually happened (or could have happened); as soon as something is revealed to be an ARG, no matter how well it's done, I just lose all interest. So with Nexpo I only ever really watched his "Disturbing things from around the internet" videos and even then I'd just skip through his commentary to get to what was allegedly disturbing. Though I might give this newest video of his a watch if it's really as bad as everyone says 👀

Reignbot makes pretty good videos too, though this is the first I've heard about her being bitchy to viewers (and I have a slight issue with her voice, the way she pronounces "ch" sounds really grates me for some reason. Probably just tism on my part).

Not only that but something I picked up on when he was talking was how he was talking a lot about "false accusations" and how they "ruin peoples lives" right at the beginning. Sure yeah we all don't want to see another bizarre ProJared situation, but if that's the FIRST fucking thing you talk about, "False pedophile accusations can seriously harm someone" and not, "Hey, this person has been spamming and harassing me with alts for weeks now" then it's very suspicious.
Call it hypocritical of me since in Pyrocynical threads I was skeptic of pedo accusations but when it comes from the victims mouth themselves it's a bit odd. Why are you going through all this effort to basically attack someone back if you didn't do anything?
Maybe I'm just overly paranoid or maybe it's my third eye finally awakening. Who knows. Can I get an autistic rating please?

Eh it's just the comments she makes in her videos directed towards her viewers and the way she replies back to her viewers on Youtube that makes me call her a bit bitchy, that's just a nitpick if anything though.

The Exploring Series guy is awesome. I could listen to him describe paint drying. He's like a non-lazy version of TheVolgun. Instead of just reading the wiki word for word he crafts his own descriptions.
I always like how TES will take time to extrapolate on what the story represents from a narrative way rather than just spooky stuff. He also does a good job of breaking things down for people who aren't experts in the the SCP universe.

The Dark Somnium does really good scary story readings. He makes his own background music and sounds too so they're pretty involved.

I've started to fall in love with True Crime but I've seen a few channels that are just kinda lame where its a person putting together a hundred jump cuts to just talk about the case. I know its not necessarily spooky stuff like OP's recommendations but sometimes its creepy to see the footage and stories they go over.

Jim Can't Swim is amazing for interrogation analysis, and That Chapter does a really good job of breaking down the cases without just rambling on.

Their was this guy I used to like that got popular for his petscop videos, but be revealed himself to be a politisperg on streams so I tuned out. I'm not watching spooky conspiracy videos to hear about drumpf.
I assume you're taking about Nightmare Masterclass, and if so I totally agree. It wasn't just the anti-capitalism sperging that turned me off however. I generally found his videos to be boring as hell.

Political spergery is also why I'm not very interested in NightDocs. The last video that I watched of his (don't remember which one) ended with some out-of-nowhere BLM soapboxing.

NationSquid - his earliest videos are rough and give off the aura of someone trying to break into the youtube business, including putting jumpscares in random parts of the video, but i think he's grown a lot. some of the b roll footage he uses is genuinely beautiful and he doesn't generally cover stuff that's already been discussed to death, watch his metafiction theatre videos.

Pseudiom - not really a horror channel, more about intriguing stuff in culture, language, history, art, music, media, etc. i like his video on the album artist for Blue Oyster Cult.

ShroudedHand - has a deep kind of mong voice but it grows on you, the stuff he covers is all over the place, depressing accounts of murder, experiments on animals, then something he found in the dailymail that day that he thought was funny.

Tara A Devlin - she covers japanese horror, ancient legends, new urban legends, ritual stuff, indie games that she translates, internet mysteries from the japanese net, 2chan, futaba, etc. She speaks japanese, so she brings up stuff that no other channel really covers. watch her bizzare crimes and disappearances and internet mysteries playlists.

Toxicologist - an /x/ user, he started making videos because another /x/ user, Exer Erb, mysteriously disappeared. i like his occult history videos, comfy text-to-speech voice, watch out for the demiurge.

--------

these are channels haven't uploaded in 6-7 years, but i'm still subscribed to them out of nostalgia for the old type of videos that didn't continuously break the viewer out of their immersion with royalty free music and endless shilling intros for patreon, merch, or sponsorships

creepypaste - an old /x/ user who used to go by shirtfag (or someone impersonating them), just comfy old source videos

theLittleFears - old classic creepypasta read with video accompaniment, pleasant voice

The Paranormal Scholar
Beyond the Dark
The Crime Reel (crime obviously)
Brief Case (mostly crime)
Dark Curiosities
Obsolete Oddity

I've got a few others I watch but I'll have to look at my account, and a lot of the ones I kind already are listed here.

Eta: Hannah the Horrible is decent to.

It's funny, I just watched the new Nexpo the other night, and while it was interesting to gawk at an insane person doing insane person things, I did have some of the same problems with it that you all are mentioning. I also don't really care for how he has tried to make his channel more 'personal'. I think that's almost always a mistake if you didn't start out that way. I noticed in that video he's even going by his real name on Twitter now instead of the name of his YT channel. There was another channel I used to like (covering amusement park history, not horror stuff) that did the same thing and it really took it from being interesting, informative content to just kind of....annoying and gay.

As for recs, I second Lazy Masquerade, although I'm not really into the 'scary stories from Reddit' stuff, I just like the unsolved mystery videos. If you want ghost stuff, Nuke's Top Five is mostly "hit" with the occasional "miss". In the past he did a wider variety of subjects but now it's mostly paranormal videos.

There's also Exploring with Josh, who you've probably heard of before. He used to mostly just do travel vlogging and abandoned exploration, but lately he's been ghost hunting all over New England and actually getting some pretty intriguing content. Here's the playlist of all of his paranormal videos.

I'm going to second Night Mind. out of all the horror Youtubers I watch he is probably the best. He may be a gay furry but he makes some damn good content. If you ever want a rundown on most of Alan Resnick's horror projects his videos are a must-watch.
Yeah night mind makes some pretty good videos especially his slender man ones but his ego and fanbase have gotten fucking obnoxious. Any time something happens with an ARG he has mentioned everyone is like "ZOMG!!!!! GET NIGHT MIND™ ON THIS!!!" and they treat his interpretations of things as indisputable.

As for his ego, I remember an ARG which nightmind and his fanboys got banned off of patron because they thought whoever was doing it wanted money despite the fact that he specifically said otherwise. Just shows that he has too much pride to think things through before posting on twitter.

100% this. I did like a lot of Nexpo's older stuff, and some of his newer stuff is good too, but I've started noticing that he'll drop more and more personal details in his videos, almost out of nowhere (he mentions that 'stalker' that he had a lot, for instance). I second everyone's thoughts about his most recent vid about the pedo accusations, too.

I remember him. It was fascinating that he covered the Kenneka Jenkins case and was so confused as to why the black community was so convinced there was foul play that the authorities just refused to look into. You can chalk me up to being a Murican who assumes everywhere else in the world views things through the same sociopolitical lens we have, but I was surprised to hear someone confused about that (and not saying CLEARLY THE COPS ARE RACISTS) in Current Year.

In some ways he's the MatPat of ARGs. The way both of them speak is also obnoxious for the same reasons to me.

Which one is it? I watch a lot of those types of channels. It's true that when youtubers start integrating more of their IRL identity, like starting to use their face or real name, they become more annoying and gay. The commentary community is another example of that.

Yeah she's probably threadworthy, I looked into her a bit and she's absolutely batshit fucking insane and has a web footprint going back to at least 2006, if you're interested in looking her up her real name is Rebecca Pisani and has the username corestormy along with several variations of that on youtube.

Then Null would be receiving six thousand notifications calling him a pedo defender. So I guess nothing new would happen?

I used to watch a ton of Rob Dyke a while back. He used to do videos on serial killers and shit. Dont know what he's been up to lately. Last I heard he changed his name because it kept triggering the jewtube algorithm, lol.
Funny you should mention him. Hadnt thought of him in ages, but a vid about him was in my recomended tonight.

He has posted a response in the comments still bitching about the "adpocolyps" and his depression. Tldr/dw
Hes in six figure debt with the irs according to him.
