100% it was his plan. His big plan has ALWAYS been to contest the validity of the election. He did it in 2016, talking for months up until he won about how it was going to be rigged and Hillary was gonna steal it, and how unfair it was to him. Then he won, and suddenly it's not rigged anymore! Now, he started the same thing again, months ago going on about how rigged the election was going to be, zeroing in on mail in ballots because they were inevitable, what with the pandemic. He doesn't know how to win if not to cheat, even when he legitimately wins.
Trump was preparing for a loss in 2016 as well. I think it's likely he just wants to avoid the admission of losing, rather than actually wanting to hang on to the presidency. The question is how much damage his conspiracy-mongering will do in the meantime.

Seems like if you know your opponent is going to claim that the election is rigged, you should do your best to make the election process as transparent as possible. The optics on this are pretty fucking terrible to a large portion of people, especially from a candidate that's ostensibly supposed to unite the electorate and move past a president that was decried as undemocratic and fascistic for the past four years

Do we know what the angle would've been in 2016? I don't recall any talk of fraud back then.
Nov. 27, 2016: "In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally." I seem to recall the narrative was that millions of illegal immigrants were bused in to vote for Hillary, or something.

Yeah but Trump had all the time in the world during his 4 years in office to do some overhaul of the election process, if he really believed it was unfair and could easily be rigged. How is it anyone else's responsibility, when he was the one in power who could actually effect change?

There was. He set up a commission into electoral fraud. It was disbanded when they couldn't find any evidence of it.
Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah the Kobach thing. They wanted to blame the illegal Mexicans. Right, right.

There wasn't fraud talk because it was quite decisive they had to push the "Russian interference fooled americans angle". This time its much closer so the fraud angle holds a bit of water but good luck proving it.

I get what you're saying about the optics but Biden has no control over the electoral processes of the states and shouldn't put himself in a position where he could be perceived as trying to influence those processes.

At this point, I think nothing could be done to prevent a good chunk of Trump's following from believing his claims. There are always going to be irregularities, contradictions or errors, and anyone who's really determined to can find a way to turn them into proof positive of a conspiracy. This is always how it goes with conspiracist thinking; you pick an event that's sufficiently large and complicated that contradictions and uncertainties are inevitable (the JFK assassination, the Apollo 11 mission, human evolution, etc.) and then you take those contradictions and uncertainties as proof that something else is really going on behind the scenes.

Well, search. "Millions of illegal immigrants" voting for Hillary, explainkng why he lost the popular vote. He set up an investigation commissiom that ended in nothing. The "angle" was that if he lost, it would have been the fraud.

He also said the 2012 elections were cheated.

And he also repeated for years that Obama was not born in the US and when proven wrong just admitted it quickly and continued to speak about something else. Never said sorry.

Even if Trump had been found in bed with Putin, they would still have voted for him because it's " MSM news" and shows how he is persecuted.

He's always denying reality. He will never say the American people have decided. Had I been better, I would have won. Good achievements are made by ME ME ME, anything bad is other people's fault.

Let's see what the New One will come up with.

I mean human evolution is obviously a plot by the CIA.

In his defense he was knowingly lying the whole time.

Yeah, because that's what everyone else does, right? Hillary did the exact same thing you're accusing Trump of. It's better to look like a lunatic than a cuck.

Yeah but he ain't gonna call foul on it though so imo he is just as responsible for allowing it to happen the guy and his team is not that stupid. That is also giving him the greatest benefit of the doubt.

He's a fascist and actually lost the election though, remember? Why would he want to eliminate his best excuse for losing? I'm not assigning responsibility to anyone, I'm just saying that this is a disaster for everyone involved, and if the Democratic party was serious about toning down partisan tension then they have either made some stupid decisions in the past couple of days or (more likely) leadership has no plan for the current situation and they're just hoping that people forget about this in a month or two, which they won't

Also, the president has zero power to change how elections are held

You know who has even less power to change how elections are held? Biden.

I was reading National Review comments and there were a couple that unironically think China will invade Taiwan by February and Deep Fake Joe won't have the software update by then to deal with it. I hope we figured out a better source for the strategic supply of microprocessors.

The democratic party apparatus absolutely has control over the messaging of their state and local officials, or at least they should. If they wanted people up all night counting ballots in Nevada, it would have been implemented on Tuesday night with a memo to the governor who would then direct the secretary of state
