Now hang on, there’s some merit to a few legacy characters. Wally West, Terry McGinnis, John Stewart and Jaime Reyes are pretty good legacies while Spider-Man has a worthy successor in Miguel O’Hara.

And that's how you date your stories. The old X-Men comics might be silly and cringy but they still make sense these days because they created and ran with their own events and organizations within their universe. That Spiderman comic featuring Obama, on the other hand, will make zero fucking sense to anyone below the age of 50 in about 20 years or so.
