it went from being definite lore as a result of the book series "The Real Barenziah" in Daggerfall to that information being completely scrubbed out of TRB in subsequent games where the books appeared, it's basically in a state of nonexistence/limbo/"stop talking about cat dicks you sick fucks" which tbh is fine because (and I know this sounds weird) I don't fucking play Elder Scrolls games for the sexual innuendos
