less to lose. people only grab the gun if the possible are repercussions are less severe than any other option. that's why you won't see any boogaloo for a quite a while (if ever, shit has to go really bad for that, more likely some states say "fuck you, I'm leaving" and the US has become so weak they can't stop it).
for now people still have enough food and entertainment to keep them distracted. bread and circuses, the romans figured that one out 2000 years ago.
as for democratic gestapo? nothing's gonna happen. armed insurrection "to fight injustice" sounds brave and noble, but in reality people are gonna keep their head down so they don't get vanned in the middle of their night like their neighbors. remember those people in school "how could the nazis get away with, why did no one fight?
I would have
totally done something!", right because everyone is a
scholl sibling (the irony is if actually the whole population would rise up any government will fall quite quickly, since you can't fight your own population). for the same reason you won't see prolonged violent rioting, because it challenges the state's absolute control of power (and that's why the prolonged chimpout made things very obvious for some people), an authoritarian regime can't allow that even less. and that's why you see resistance always hiding and sabotaging, not outright challenging the regime in open combat (where they don't have the numbers for anyway usually).
