Lashana Lynch will play the first Black female 007 in the James Bond movie "No Time to Die," Harper's Bazaar confirmed in a new profile of the actress.

While the confirmation is new, news of Lynch's role leaked last year, leading to a backlash from people online who weren't ready for a Black woman as a secret agent.

"For a week, she deleted her social-media apps, meditated and saw no one but family, while comforting herself with the knowledge that the aggressive comments were ultimately not personal," Yrsa Daley-Ward wrote of Lynch.

"I am one Black woman -- if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse," Lynch said. "I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I'm a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary."

According to the Harper's Bazaar story, Lynch's character, Nomi, takes over the 007 spy code name when James Bond (Daniel Craig) disappears following the events of "Spectre."

Daley-Ward wrote that Lynch worked closely with the "No Time to Die" co-screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge (the creator of "Fleabag") to have Nomi be a "fresh female perspective" in the male-focused franchise.

Lynch also said there was another goal in having a role like this in such an anticipated movie.

"I didn't want to waste an opportunity when it came to what Nomi might represent," she said. "I searched for at least one moment in the script where Black audience members would nod their heads, tutting at the reality but glad to see their real life represented. In every project I am part of, no matter the budget or genre, the Black experience that I'm presenting needs to be 100 percent authentic."

"No Time To Die" is set to be in theaters on April 2.

I have a feeling this movie is going to do badly enough to tank the franchise. Besides Craig being a meh Bond at best, no one wants to see the role / character destroyed and mangled just to appease the gods of progressivism.

I'm kinda conflicted about this one.
While I do believe that there are retards out there that get legit mad when black people play fictional characters, the BLM movement brought to life a whole lot of opportunists using the race card to get privileges.

Remember Jussie Smolett? Yeah, there are lots of opportunists riding the BLM movement looking for attention and revenge. But as I said, some people are really mental about the actors that play their favorite characters, so there's that.

Everybody likes Lana Kane from Archer, nobody has a problem with the concept of black female secret agent in the abstract. The problem is black and gender washing 007. Sorry, that character is a white male that at least puts on a British accent. Flip it around - just like nobody would have a problem with a white chick as a superhero, unless we called her Black Panther because Black Panther is a black male.

That's actually the biggest problem for most people, now what was a very simple and easy white male power fantasy, a form of escapism for the people who put up with a thousand indignities every single day to support their family and ensure the planet's economy keeps ticking along, has been destroyed. It is no longer escapism, it is as fused with the Mammon of neoliberal globalism as every fucking thing else on the planet, and every time you think about James Bond now you will remember it has been politicised and assimilated and you're a fucking scumbag for not being happy about it.

It's like they don't recognize the fact that the reasons people love these franchises isn't because of the stories alone, but the characters and their personalities we have all grown fond of.

What's so hard about creating a new property that has all the things you want instead of piggybacking an existing IP? Doing the later does nothing but drag both concepts down into the sewer.

Yeah, she’s not replacing the character of James Bond, she’s just another 00 agent. She temporarily gets the 007 moniker for “reasons”. when Craig finally clocks out he’s still going to be replaced by another white British guy, Madden or Hardy are the two betting faves.

There’ve been plenty of other 00 agents in the movies before, Sean Bean in Goldeneye for one. There’s even been a black woman secret agent in Live and Let Die. This is all PR bullshit.
