I had an.... Interesting exchange with one of the other tenants today. She started going on about the election, and how everything would be so much better once Biden was in office. I proceeded to point out that he hadn't been officiated and she got really, really mad, arguing that Trump challenging the election was "divisive" and taking his (correct) accusation that there had been fraud as an attack against the voters. When I asked if she was aware of the ongoing fraud investigations, she claimed there weren't any because she watched CNN.
When I pointed out numerous already-prosecuted cases of intent to befraud leading up to the election, and many that have happened since, she tried to dismiss it as "those votes were all legit because more LGBT/Minorities/Women voted and they all hate Trump." Pointed out that Trump gained over ten million votes and to get the numbers he currently has, Biden would have to be outperforming every single candidate that has ever lived to get those numbers, and she stared at me like I had seven heads and one in my hand. Brought up that CNN cut off Trump during a press conference for even mentioning the court challenge, and she started going off about how Trump should have conceded and then challenged the election results, which isn't how that fucking works.
She got very loud. For a lot of these, I'd ask a simple question or statement of fact and then let her talk for about three minutes. She'd routinely bring up how important it was that the country be allowed to "heal" after 4 years of Trump and that it was needed to reduce the amount of hate in this country, and I had to resist the urge to cringe hard enough to resemble the victim of a Sarin Gas attack.
As frustrating as that was, it absolutely was not her fault. Not fully. This is the kind of attitude the media has been fostering for years. They prey on people who don't know what's actually going on behind the scenes and convince them that the one true narrative is all that matters, even if that narrative is ultimately a sham.
