Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Curious

Is there relation to the countries having real bad problems with Covid and countries the elites do not currently like?
Not really. It's mostly a tyrants in power correlation, more cases = more power and money for medical officers and politicians.

So cousin has to move to New York because of his job soon. I don't know how things are over there, so how fucked is it currently? The state in general, but the city also counts. Are some counties there normal or close to it?

This thing should had ended since Trump got the Wuflu a while ago and he was perfectly fine the entire time despite being in 74. I know he's America's president and he got all the doctors at his nook and cranny but the fact that he was in the highest age range to fall ill from it and survived with none of the symptoms nor effects showed all people needed to know.

While the media did take notice Trump was back on his feet within days, they chose to spin it as "REE! Trump wasn't laid out/quarantined for 14 days like he should have been," and not, "Gee, Trump is back to work in no time. What medical procedures made this possible, and how can we make this treatment available to the rest of the country?"

My only true issue is if its mandatory

Even if a COVID vaccine was declared mandatory, it would be optimistic at best to expect 100% compliance. Ignoring the obvious questions such as "How do we vaccinate the homeless?", we have anti-vaxxers who distrust any serum in a needle, people with closely-held religious beliefs that don't believe in vaccines, people who may be allergic to the ingredients, and people who distrust any medication that has been rushed into production without the usual testing and approval process. The powers that be have to realistically expect less than 100% of the population to be vaccinated, otherwise they're setting themselves up for disappointment when the aforementioned groups push back at the demand to take the COVID vaccine on a compulsory basis.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D), who was on the short list for Biden's running mate, has said she will decline any offers to serve in Biden's cabinet, preferring to stay in Michigan instead.
"The effort to contain COVID-19 is one of the reasons Whitmer wants to remain in Michigan, she told WDIV."

Whitmer seems to be in rare form this week. in a recent article, she's quoted as saying, "You can’t run a country via Twitter or social media," even though she's actively engaged in Twitter slapfights with Trump instead of ignoring his barbs towards her. She also goes on to label Trump a superspreader and blames gerrymandering for state Democrats' failure to retake the state house and/or senate. I have to wonder if her 64% approval rating is as reliable as the polls that predicted a 9% win for Biden. Full article:

That is why I hope they are ultimately bluffing with this "mandatory" crap. That its all for a show to try to intimidate us. But then again, they dont have to do it on literally 100% of the population, just the people that actually matter and actually own a phone (which are nearly everyone).

But I hope that wont be the case and the vaccine is a placebo worst case scenario...since I refuse to poison my body with shit that has been rushed the fuck out of the door and I probably wont feel its side effects until years down the line where doctors will be ordered to never associate them with the vaccine.

My 80-year-old mother, unprompted, told me, "No fucking way am I getting that Covid vaccine. Maybe after a year or two, if nobody's having any bad side effects, but not right away." She's just old enough to remember when polio was still a threat, and hates anti-vaxers; she recently got a shingles vaccine without having to be prodded to do it. But Covid-19? No.

My hypochondriac stepdad will probably get it at the very first opportunity, so we'll see how that goes. Or, as my mom puts it, "If he drops dead or his dick falls off, I guess we'll know what's what."

If offering proof of vaccination is required to work at certain jobs (not just health care, but perhaps restaurants/hospitality, f2f customer service, child care, emergency first responders, and/or personal service providers such as hairdressers), a lot of people are going to end up getting the vaccine, whether they want it or trust it or not--their livelihoods will depend upon it. And maybe it will become a mandatory condition for kids returning to school, or at least university students who need to attend classes on campus.

Refusing the vaccine will be easiest for anybody who can avoid financial and social repercussions of not getting it--which means either you're wealthy enough to buy your way out of any consequences for refusal; or a semi-reclusive retiree with family support, like my mom; or one of the feral homeless who shuns social services (getting the vaccine might become a condition of receiving such services). If you can't be threatened with job loss or losing needed public benefits, refusal is a lot easier.

The powers that be have to realistically expect less than 100% of the population to be vaccinated, otherwise they're setting themselves up for disappointment when the aforementioned groups push back at the demand to take the COVID vaccine on a compulsory basis.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they do. I mean, look at how many people refuse to get flu shots, despite influenza contributing to the deaths of thousands of elderly people every year.

If they can find ways to terrify, guilt, coerce, or force a majority of the population into getting vaccinated against Covid-19--especially the part that interacts most directly with other humans outside their immediate household every day--that may be considered good enough. They aren't going to get everybody, or even close to it; the measures it would take to get everybody vaccinated would be so draconian, full compliance would be a Pyrrhic victory.

He's moving to New York City. This is gonna suck for him. Probably.

The fact people think the 'rise' of Wuflu is actually Wuflu while ignoring or refusing to acknowledge that its now flu season despite that pharmacies have the posters of flu shots up is going to really hurt everyone in the long run.

Realistically, do the states have any recourse against Sleepy Joe's national lockdown and mask mandate? It sounds like it might violate the states' rights part of the Constitution and that a Trump-appointed federal judge could simply suspend the national order. Sleepy Joe could do the other federal tactic of withholding federal funds (like they did for states who refused to raise the drinking age to 21), but that's pretty dumb since any state that goes for a full shutdown is killing their own state revenue anyway. A state like Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, or South Dakota has no reason to go full lockdown just because Joe is sundowning about people dying or federal funds being revoked.

The "long dark winter" which we're being warned about (because that keyword keeps showing up) will be interesting in the US. I think Biden and his DNC crew will try and intimidate governors and mayors and other state executives into shutting down or passing mask mandates, but I don't know how successful it will be.

I would certainly prepare for what happens when Trump leaves office (although I hope he somehow can still win since if Trump's a bad president, the alternative is far worse) in January. Have a good Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, because this winter you might be fucked over by Joepedo and his crowd.
Because most COVID laws now are just "cover your ass" laws.

Except you. Please don't cover dat ass.
Which is stupid since COVID is not like food poisoning, it's an airborne disease that's basically a very severe cold. It would be nearly impossible for anyone to prove they caught COVID from a specific place, outside of a few notorious events like that stupid South Korean Christian-themed cult or that one public festival they held in Wuhan in late December 2019 when the virus started. It's pretty easy to know which restaurant you got food poisoning from, but if you try and sue them, you will almost always lose because their lawyers can point to any food you ate and its source and cast doubt in the jury.

Lawsuits. If anti-vaxxers can survive despite measles and other childhood vaccines being common, they can fight off this vaccine being mandatory. Maybe it will be safe. It certainly isn't safe to assume it will be since flu shots kill plenty of people a year.

I beg the Farm's forgiveness if these specific articles were posted.

Honestly one of the most infuriating aspects of this will be people who know nothing about the spotty history of vaccines calling people who know enough about vaccines to be wary "science-deniers".

All that keeps running through my mind at the moment is the opening of I Am Legend.

Anyway, when can I get an @Otterly analysis on all this? :)

The usual from the county I live in, reminding us we are all fucked, now and forever.

STATE RELEASES LATEST REPORT CARD AND IT'S VERY BAD NEWS FOR MONTEREY COUNTY

• State raises score to 10.0 as cases climb sharply

While most of the State of California has moved on to a more favorable tier in the state's economic shutdown scheme, Monterey County's status has taken a serious turn for the worse, which means our restaurants will have to remain closed to indoor dining even as overnight temperatures move into the 30s.

This morning, the California Department of Public Health raised Monterey County's tier status report card to 10.0 — a huge increase from last week's 7.9 and miles from the 7.0 needed to move to a better tier.

The new score is based on the county's coronavirus infections during the week that ended Oct. 31, when the county health department reported 380 new cases. As readers of these bulletins know, the caseload subsequently increased to 490 (week ending Nov. 7), and it's been continuing to go up ever since.

Most of the new cases, as always, are in Salinas and the Salinas Valley, which means that unless someone comes up with a way to control the outbreak in those hotspots, local restaurants will be confronting the unenviable task of trying to serve hot meals to people who are cold. And the crucial Thanksgiving weekend is right around the corner.

For details about Monterey County's latest data, as reported by the California Department of Public Health, click here.

Just walked up to the post office and back. Saw several restaurants with newly-built, fairly weather-resistant "outdoor enclosures". Looking at them, see little difference between eating in the "enclosures" and actually eating inside. Still not eating in such places. I don't eat outside, as a rule. Going to be a very hard Thanksgiving and Christmas here for many, many people.

For all the doom and gloomers worried Biden will usher in a crazy response to their "dark winter", the tide is turning. Aint gun be no Biden term :)

Now the left will use everything they can to fight the election turning to Trump, especially corona. But luckily that will be limited to blue cities and states. It'll be over soon, maybe in time for Christmas? If you live in a red area :punished:

What's this? I'm just barely tracking the politics. Are the pro-recount people actually getting somewhere?

You knows, not to power level here but I have this close friend of mine I had around 10 years. Quite a long time. We are kind like "brothers". Anyway, for as much I love the guy, he can a freaking idiot at times, for example, he buys that this whole corona shit is serious and yada yada yada. He didnt even know you could die from the fucking cold until I told him. You can tell who is the "brain" of the dual.

Anyway, I have been trying to slowly chip away his fear that this corona garbage is truly the boogey man the medie pretends it is and I think that I was doing a decent progress. That is until, well, his uncle recently died back at Columbia. The guy was at the hospital because of his heart conditions but he aparently made a recovery...only to "drop dead" from corona a few days later. I asked him how he could have died from it so fast (and I added "of course it had to be corona" and he told me to lay it off).

Now Im freaking checkmated by the 'rona. I cant try to convince him further because this death will now solidify the risk for him. Also it doesnt help Columbia is very corrupt so I dont know if that corona diagnosis is even real. I dont want to be insensible but I dont want him to be afraid either. And let me be a cold bastard here, his uncle was old and had heart problems that were acting up at the hospital, he wasnt at the best health state if it truly was corona that did him in.

*sigh* Im screwed now...

Man, first off, your mom is awesome. She sounds like a "takes no shit" type of mother.

Second, Im more concerned they may not make it "mandatory" but as you said "softly" mandatory, as in "you are fucked if you dont do it". Im not sure how legal that would be but hey, they make the rules, dont they? They fight for the right to kill their unborn but to decide if you want to take a "disguised" flu shot that may or may not have bad effects to your health in the future? Just open your ass and take it, slave.

Honestly, some are already claiming that Corona seems to have "overtaken" the flu as the "new" season disease. Is it preposterous? Yes but they did see how much of the common man will just let go of his taken-for-granted-rights for short term "security" like its spare change.
Besides there are some dumb motherfuckers that dont know the cold alone can kill you.

We are dealing with people that have left thinking for third parties. People DONT know they can die from the cold, much less from faulty flu shots.
Their trust in the government is comical if not utterly pathetic. They think its like the movies where the government are always the good guys...ex-fucking-cuse me to claim that it might all be, you know, fiction and actual governments are far more malicious than they seem.

Here is a neat little app thing to show UK Conservative cronies and their network of contracts and deals made during the pandemic. Love the name of it!

Im counting the days until it gets taken down because... *open paper* racism, sexism, islamophobia, transphobia, homophobia, Biden-phobia, Khan-phobia. And the arguments are "wont someone please think of the elites?!".

Keep in mind that Trump attempted to withhold Federal funds from Sanctuary Cities only to have a liberal court strike that down. It's possible that the tables could turn and the Republicans could find a conservative court to do the same thing with regards to a mask mandate.

Some Democratic-governed states believe that a Biden presidency means that the latter will be willing to give the former whatever money they demand to make up for their COVID-related tax revenue shortfalls. Whether they'd get any sort of Federal funds from Biden -- and, most importantly, a Republican-controlled US Senate -- remains to be seen and could very well factor heavily in states' ongoing response to COVID.

You also touched upon something else I've told other people, @Save the Loli: A large-scale, one size fits all approach isn't ideal because a state such as Wyoming will have a much different COVID approach than California, New York, or Texas will. It might be better to establish guidelines ranging from required to recommended/optional so that each state can implement the combination that works best for its unique situation.

It also remains to be seen whether news of Pfizer's vaccine efforts combined with a potential Biden Presidency is what leads to reported cases and deaths suddenly plummeting this winter.

Scientists are identifying long term problems in those who have "recovered" from covid. So if this disease is more contagious than the common cold, and potentially more damaging to people in the long run than the common cold, surely it makes more sense to get people to wear a damn mask until they can fully identify the risks of this disease?

Dude, no offense but
TO
FUCKING
HEEEEELLLLLL

With what scientists and "experts" say about this god forsaken virus. Im fucking TIRED of this fucking shit. IM TIRED OF YOUR FUCKING MASKS, MASKS THAT STATE ON THE FUCKING BOX THAT "DONT PROTECT AGAINST DISEASES".

HOW LONG WILL SOCIETY BE ALLOWED TO BE FUCKED OVER BECAUSE OF WHAT "SCIENTISTS" SAY?! SINCE WHEN WE TREAT THEIR WORD LIKE IF ITS THE WORD OF GOD? IM SO FUCKING EXAUSTED OF GETTING SHAT ON NEARLY DAILY AND BE TOLD ITS FOR MY AND THE OTHER'S SAFETY. YOUR APOCALYPSE ISNT LATE IN THE FUCKING MAIL, ITS NEVER EVER GOING TO EVER FUCKING HAPPEN. IM TIRED OF RUINING MY LIFE BECAUSE SOME OLD FART IN THEIR 80'S MIGHT DIE FROM ANYTHING AT THIS POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOINT!!!!

Anyway, awww, I think the message was sent. Aw, Im a rather not fan of it. I think the experts are wrong and awww I think anyone that goes along with it is either an idiot or a malicious idiot.
