My family comes from there. From what I can tell, its because they're incredibly fucking used to it. my father shrugged at dead people voting and my mom made jokes about it with the rest of my family.

Tellingly, only my grandmother remains within city limits. Even then she shops outside of Cook county and knows the place is a shithole.
