He was headed in this direction waaaaaay before GamerGate, 2 and a half years at least, if not longer. Late 2011/early 2012 was when he started getting mega-addicted to Twatter and started getting more and more full of himself. And even though I liked some of the early Game Overthinkers, it's obvious that smarmy cocksure persona wasn't actually a front and he was exactly that kind of narcissistic pseudointellectual even then. Some people reveal who they are when given mild internet fame and a sense of unaccountability, and almost no one conforms to that stereotype more than Bob. He's always been a self-important chump, he just pretended it was tongue in cheek in the past. He's always been a bitter contrarian (this is the dude who voted McCain in 2008 because Obama's "folksy pandering" reminded him too much of Bush and validated the obsoletes) substituting that for intelligence. He's always been utterly obsessed with pop culture and over-inflates its importance to the world (one of the earliest Game Overthinkers that attracted attention was his Sonic movie re-write because he insisted that Sonic deserved a good story), and he's always been a lecherous pig, first masking that with his supposed "libertine lifestyle" (where he endlessly added thirsty references to Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johannson, etc. etc. in his videos), and later with his male feminism.I really miss Bob of 2007-2010.
He had better glasses that didnt make him resemble the "I Sort Glass" guy, and often characterized himself with badass overcoats. Early Game Overthinker made him sound very intellectual, maybe because he was hidden behind the camera and even used a voice distorter, but getting the recognition by Screw Attack (which was still a huge thing in 200helped his confidence.
It's all that stupid Gamergate at fault. Just a bunch of stupid feminists sitting in front of a camera testifying. It showed a lot of true colors in politicizing game media. The concurrent growing arrogance under the Obama years started to change something in Bob's head.
One of my biggest regrets in all this was not continuing to follow Bob after episode 150 of Game Overthinker, the finale of the original series I spent my early 20s growing up on. Perhaps if i didnt, i would have quickly noticed how crazy Bob was being.
