I agree in principle. But in practice, by the time someone gets a felony conviction, they already have a long rap sheet. No one becomes a felon by accident, they work long and hard at it for years, and resist every attempt by the state to reform them. And good behavior in prison doesn't demonstrate rehabilitation--the true test of rehabilitation isn't what you did in prison, it's what you do in the years after you get out. So I guess I'm in favor of a pathway back to civil rights, but it shouldn't be automatic.I might be an outlier but I think felons should be able to regain their voting and 2a rights.
That they don't is an admission that the justice system isn't working. Either they've paid their debt, been reformed and released in which case they should be able to vote and own a gun, or they haven't and they shouldn't be released in the first place.
