There was a brief period of time where Jon started expressing his political opinions, which were more right-leaning than a lot of other online content creators. Then he made the mistake of debating Destiny. Jon showed he wasn't a good debater under pressure (especially not with someone like Destiny who gish-gallops like crazy) and made remarks that a lot of people deem racist.

Of course, Jon's still an insanely popular YouTuber so it seems nobody outside Twitter cliques give a shit. It also helps that Jon never expressed his politics in his videos so his viewers who don't follow him on Twitter would never have seen any of the drama.
