I think it's much more likely Mallory has always been the sort of weak-willed, insipid nonentity that tends to gets drawn into the orbit of an insufferable narcissist black hole of need and attention like Joe, and engage in mimicry due to a lack of their own personality or deeply rooted sense of self. She's essentially just mirroring Joe because what little personality she had has been subsumed by him. I've encountered the type before, they tend to either end up in unidirectional abusive relationships like this one, or in cults. In a sense, this whole relationship is basically Joe starting his own, incredibly cringe, one-woman cult where he is the world's most pathetic guru.

Edit: the possibility occurred to me that the only aspect of masculinity Mallory might be successfully aping is being a huge cuck, and she's just letting Joe post from her Twitter account - would explain why it sounds so much like him
