Ya think? Ya think? Ya fucking think? Jesus!

One positive thing I'll say for Covid is that it's done a fantastic job of exposing the totalitarian weirdos and wannabe Hitlers out there. You've got people calling for genocide, people wanting to put others in camps, people wanting to forcefully micro chip others.

I really hope people are paying attention to elections moving forward because these people are too deranged and power hungry to manage a 711 yet alone govern.

Believe a LOT of people all over have been paying attention to these incompetent fucks. Far as I am concerned have no trust in, respect for or faith in government/law enforcement/judiciary below the level of President Trump and the Supreme Court. This total loss of credibility will take a very long time, if ever for government/law enforcement to recover from. They've really fucked themselves this time. And should Biden get in, then you have a President millions will consider illegitimately elected, making things even worse.

I love my family dearly, but I really wish my paranoid relatives would stop sending me local news articles about how many new cases there are in my state/county.

Yes, I am not as paranoid as you are. Yes, I have told you this. No, no local news story with numbers attached is going to change my mind. I also know, and have acknowledged, that nothing I say will change your mind. So please, for the love of all that is good and holy, stop emailing me links to articles that I already saw this morning, and ignored.

I work for a hospital system, for chrissakes.

It reminds us that totalitarian governments were built not entirely on force and violence, but also on the back of the Karens who thought they were fighting the good fight.

I personally see the elections going to Biden, assuming Trump doesn't have something, as actually laying the groundwork for the National Divorce. Civil War is bad for an entire host of reasons, the best solution is to simply piss off the Left enough that they're happy to let everyone else go their own way with the actually important parts of the country, before they realize that none of them know how to farm.
Whether this is possible, I don't know, but you can't exactly fight a civil war with noodly-armed fags who need a safe space if they get misgendered.

Imagine having to explain to kids decades from now that the second US civil war was caused, in part, because Karen makes her kids wear masks in the bathtub and Carin down the street not only lets her kids bathe without masks, but her husband was seen opening the mail without baking it in the oven first.

So wait, not only does this demonstrate the lockdowns, mask mandates, travel bans, etc. would have all been in vain since this was running around the world long before any eyes were on Wuhan; it also shoots down "muh antibodies dont last!" as well?
:story:

Outstanding, if true.
“It means that the new coronavirus can circulate among the population for long and with a low rate of lethality not because it is disappearing but only to surge again,”
Even in an article that should in-theory blow doomer narratives out of the water, the article still finds a way to spread DOOM!

It's been a fantastic example as to why you never surrender any amount of freedom to your government, because you won't get it back. Sure, they keep saying that we're just about to reach the crest of the hill, it's just about over, we can get there if we just buckle down and try extra hard, but we're on day 245 of 15 days to slow the spread. That was eight months ago.
Michigan's Republican-controlled legislature seems fully aware of this point. Governor Whitmer wants them to take the current mask executive order and put it into a bill that she can sign into law. TL;DR, both chambers' majority leaders' responses can be succinctly summarized as "LOL, no." They may realize that if this ever became law, there's no way the governor would be willing to repeal it when it was no longer necessary nor would she sign such a bill that had a sunset provision it so that it automatically expired after a certain period of time because she's revealed herself to be a control freak.

If you impose a "temporary measure" for long enough, the next generation won't even know it's temporary.
It's not just the big items that @It's HK-47 mentioned but local ones as well. My city presented a public safety millage to voters during the mid 2000's recession to avoid making cuts to police and fire service. Besides the usual, "If you vote no you're anti-fire/police" rhetoric, taxpaying voters were told this would be temporary for 5-10 years. Guess what? It's been longer than 10 years and the millage is still on the books with the city showing no apparent interest in weaning itself off the supposedly-temporary money it brings in. Anybody new to the city will likely think it's been a long-term item and blindly vote to renew it when it comes up on future ballots without regard for the history and reason behind it in the first place.

If the COVID-related shutdowns negatively impact enough peoples' financial well-being, I can see more people voting no on local millage proposals -- whether new ones or the renewal of existing ones -- simply because individuals earning less money don't want to pay more in taxes, especially during a period of government-imposed activity restrictions. To paraphrase @JosephStalin, people will rightfully want to know why governmental units shouldn't share in the belt-tightening everyone else has to suffer through.

My governor said it was our patriotic duty to get takeout and shop small business, while locking us down again and imposing huge burdens on restaurants and small business.
:story: Yeah, no. Two weeks turns into 8 months..... my pennies are being pinched until this shit ends. I don't have a money printer.

Second vaccine is showing highly effective at 94.5%.

Some choice quotes

I fucking hate this piece of shit. It is irresponsible and downright unscientific to say "no real safety concern" for a brand new vaccine type that has only had a few months of safety testing. They've barely tested short-term effects and these faggotrons want to start giving people the jab next month.
It doesn't matter, they're still going to make you wear a mask, and limit who you can see and where you can go. You don't want your 90 year old grandma to die, do you?! She's got so many years ahead of her!

On a side note:
I'm glad this virus supposedly killed @HollywoodHulkHogan's grandma or sister, or whoever.

I think you hit on something here. Left-wingers in the US have completely forgotten how to get shit done. What it takes to actually to do the meaningful day-to-day things that society rests upon. Current thinking is to just bitch at the manager until they change policy in some superficial move to mollify them. The problem is still there, because nobody actually did anything, but it has a fresh coat of paint in rainbow colors or whatever. Style over Substance: The Political Movement.

Now that's fine. Do whatever. The issue is them openly rejecting any sort of pragmatic "we still need this to work" common sense core to crucial industries. Agriculture, energy, transportation, etc. Being able to do shit in those areas is an iterative process. Throwing it all out and starting from scratch because you reject the origins of the infrastructure, knowledge, and know-how is going to be a disaster.

What a fucking joke! This from the same motherfucking cocksucker who held a dinner for his friends in SF, where he wasn't wearing a mask. And he wonders why nobody with a brain pays any attention to his babbling. Bite my crank, Nazi Newsom, you bitch. Yahoo's got it right - jokes are in "entertainment".

Not only have I shit smarter things than Newsom, but my three grandkids (12, 4, and 5 months) could do a better job running the shithole formerly known as California without even trying.

And think about the wages of Cancel Culture. The screaming hordes of the Left actively want to purge every industry of the people who make it function simply because of wrong think. So, if you're thinking long term, because they don't, and you're trying to avoid an actual Civil War 2.0, then the best thing for the Right to do is simply be annoying assholes to the point to making the Left want to let us and our Southern and Midwestern "shitholes" go. Kurt Schlichter's Kelly Turnbull books basically had this and the thing was that the blue states basically ran themselves into the ground because most of the productive types fucked off to the Red States and most people in the Blue States were functionally useless. And that was a relatively clean entire states split.

I'm assuming this wouldn't be lost on the actual leaders of the Left, but I've found myself significantly over estimating the already low regard I've held our "Elites" in. The rank and file certainly don't, I don't think the Technocrats in their bugpods do, and the Socialist-types aren't the sharpest. I'd assume the Neo Liberal/Neo Con old guard does, but their power is waning. Regardless of what happens in the next two months, I think Biden is their last gasp.

I think that’s heavily related to the fact that so many people these days seem to be attracted to left-wing causes primarily for virtue signaling reasons. They don’t care about doing anything practical or finding solutions because they don’t even really care about the problem, beyond using it to show off what a good, empathetic person they are by constantly pointing out that it exists and blaming someone else for it.

That's why so often when they're pressured to actually come up with a solution, it ends up amounting to "just tear the old system out and replace it with pixie dust and unicorn farts".

Yes. Simple answers to complex problems that they read about on reddit.

Member when they thought the solution to trash in the ocean was to ban drinking straws? Lol.

It blows my mind that we are going to see lockdowns again at this rate.

Certain industries were already decimated by the first wave of lockdowns. (For example, the entire restaurant industry.) Only those in exceptionally good areas or that had a rainy day fund survived. I had to do a long drive through Pennsylvania a few weeks back and it was tragic to see all the old highway mom/pop places that had closed down. Only chains like McDonalds are left.

A full second lockdown is going to go for the jugular of a lot of places hanging by a thread. Even places that survived the first time aren't going to have enough gas in the tank to handle a round 2.

But is anybody listening? I'm debating between three Thanksgiving day parties.

The more discerning viewer knew that things would get bad when cold and flu season hit.

Failing safe during the summer months and building up that immunity for when the storm comes was a Covid mitigation strategy that was openly talked about in many circles. But too late now. Buckle up kids, we're going for a ride.
