Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I think you hit on something here. Left-wingers in the US have completely forgotten how to get shit done. What it takes to actually to do the meaningful day-to-day things that society rests upon. Current thinking is to just bitch at the manager until they change policy in some superficial move to mollify them. The problem is still there, because nobody actually did anything, but it has a fresh coat of paint in rainbow colors or whatever. Style over Substance: The Political Movement.
Well, a lot of Trump's presidency was "Style over substance" since he felt safest just triggering the libs and owning the libs on Twitter than seriously shaking things up. Yes, some of it he probably couldn't have interfered in without bipartisan support for his removal but he could've made a lot more of an effort since people who dare are the ones who make history, just like Jackson shook up the establishment back in his day and Lincoln destroyed a huge chunk of the establishment in a goddamn war.

I think it's because of the history of the US Left. The Progressives of the early 20th century, Debs and his Socialist Party, and labor unions ended up suffering Soviet infiltration and were mostly destroyed or silenced by McCarthyism, with the result being they either became full-time Moscow puppets, supported a bunch of impotent communist groups, or became part of the Democrat establishment. The New Left in the 60s was easy to co-opt by the elite since again, they either became part of the Democrat establishment or part of impotent far-left movements which this time were even more despicable to the American people (compare early communists in the US, which had a base in places like Oklahoma, to the 70s and later communists defending cop killing gangsters and shit). They ended up totally reliant on the establishment to do anything.

Nowadays they are absolutely co-opted by neoliberalism and globalism. This started in the 90s when the US had Bill Clinton, very much a moderate and a neoliberal, sign all sorts of free trade shit. The protests against the WTO in 2000 (which had an early appearance of Seattle Antifa, but back then they were very anti-globalist) must have spooked the establishment. Occupy Wall Street was co-opted by identity politics and utopian "smoke weed all day" nonsense. Following that, the progressive left was pretty much absorbed by the consumerist neoliberal left, acting as useful idiots to them.

This is why the US Left ends up with nothing but empty feel-good promises. They promise to do things, but are total fools of the establishment. Over time, they've become the party of nothing but empty feel-good promises. You vote them because they aren't the big bad Republicans.

If anyone's going to be the "left" again, it's going to be the Republican Party since they're rapidly turning into the party opposed to the elite. While a Trump loss (it was inevitable IMO unless we had a Trump landslide) means the realignment is going to be slower, the fact remains there's a hell of a lot of people in the US who despise the coastal elite and have been screwed over by them, plus the elites have mostly abandoned the Republican Party anyway (even the Kochs IIRC aren't donating as much), so the anti-elite movement in the Republican Party is going to remain post-Trump. Just like the neoliberals in the Democratic Party had to be all "DEFUND THE POLICE", all Republicans are going to need to pander to this part of their base. It will basically replace the Religious Right part of the Republican base.
People wanting a second lockdown without any form of extra unemployment or stimulus in place are fucking sick.
No, they expect the government to give lots of nice checks again. Hyperinflation? What's that? I don't think we're likely to get hyperinflation during the Joepedo Depression, but we're probably going to get some seriously nasty stagflation. The economy will be wrecked by lockdowns and the shuttering of countless businesses, Biden's tax rates will slow the recovery, and we'll have a massive expansion in the money supply.

Your Bidenbux in 2021 will be worth maybe 2/3 as much as your Trumpbux in 2020. Enjoy!
Interesting deal in the PNW, btw. Yakima County had a real hard time of it July-August. Nation-leading case rates. My guess is that they didn't think ahead for accomodations for the migrant pickers and it passed through them like wildfire. Most places up here that grow a lot of fresh produce and have the cold storage facilities had the same thing happen. So they are going to have it easy going forward. It's the other parts where there has been sweet fuckall for cases (like where I live) that is going to have a bad time. Ironically, it's the rural wypipo areas, grain cattle and timber country, who hated the lockdown shit passed down by Emperor Inslee. We weren't allowed to wipe enough boogers on each other during the summer, apparently, so now we get this. Fun.
I did like how at the start of everything the Indians there were like "fuck no, we're not shutting down our casinos."

I guess we will see.

I'm an outsider with 30 IQ but you seem to have captured my thoughts exactly.

And I'm sure everyone's already thought of this, but the game theory calculation for vaccines is that if everyone else gets the vaccine, you don't have to get it yourself. So it's your job to be pushing this vaccine news on all your social media portals as loudly and enthusiastically as possible.

Anyone else notice how the media continually moves the goalposts regarding a vaccine?
>it will take years to develop goy!
>one successful one means nothing, goy!
>we won't be able to distribute it fast enough goy!

Despite this, companies have been going at an unprecedented speed. The media really wants us to fail, huh?

hmmmm I'm thinking based

My area has just rolled lockdowns back to where they were at the end of March. People are panic buying, on top of the usual holiday shopping. No paper goods, no cleaning supplies, low canned goods. Stores are absolutely jammed. The atmosphere at the grocery store nearest me at 5pm yesterday, only 7 hours after the governor announced the lockdowns, was tense and overbearing. I literally felt like I was going a bit insane waiting in the checkout line and everyone around me appeared to be as stressed, if not more.

My local gym has to shutdown as well and I think that's what pisses me off the most. If the gym was deadly, people would have been dropping like flies this whole time. The gym seemed busier than ever and that's great! It means more people taking personal responsibility for their health. But now I'm set back 4 weeks, at least. I'm tired of people telling me to work out at home. I have a list of reasons why that's not feasible. But I can do a little.

I'm spending my 30th birthday next month on the Indian reservation gambling and drinking away. At least they still havesome semblance of freedom. Funny how that is considering their history. Maybe they really are smarter than us.

Some thoughts:
I want to know why they are hinging their bets on an mRNA vaccine (a relatively new & untested method) versus just running with a classic inactivated/weakened live/surface subunit vaccine?
Like I would understand if COVID were something truly unknown and truly out of the blue, but its from a fairly well-known and common family of viruses, why are we hinging our bets on an experimental methodology?

But again, I don't understand the push for a vaccine which needs the majority to take it to work versus a treatment when it would make more logistical sense to push for a treatment and treat the extreme minority at severe risk from it.

If mRNA can successfully produce antibodies then "antibodies only last a few months!" is - yet again - moot, because that means the mRNA of a previously infected person should in any normal case already know how to produce COVID antibodies again.

Now see instead of the hookers saying "nah fuck you, we are gonna work the streets anyways" they have to be maladapted little gibs whores and ask Big Brother for taxpayer money to survive.

There’s about 150 vaccines in the pipeline last time I looked. The mRNA ones are easy to start up, but there are all sorts, including weakened/killed actual virus, and spike protein instructions packaged in adenoviruses etc. Theres are DNA ones as well. There’s pretty much every platform you can imagine in the works, it’s just these few who have had the big bucks plus easier development who are getting there first.

Billions upon billions of dollars at stake if you win the race. Just imagine

NGL: I want to see terrible things happen to these big brother/big sister, quarantine loving leftists as they have a breakdown realizing big Daddy government couldn't do jackshit to protect them from getting violated.

Ditto. I'm sick of these weak minded fucks insisting that EVERYONE else is the problem. They deep down know goddamn well they NEVER worried about asymptomatic carriers until they were fucking told to, and what happened to "We should have locked down like Europe, waaaaaah" bullshit?

Oh that's right, it was proven all for naught since they're under the thumb again and obviously masks/social distancing/ruining small business doesn't work. It's AMAZING to me the amount of fucking morons walking around.

I've gone back to living my life as I see fit (murderer, I know, going to hotspots and not requiring anyone to wear a mask when they come by), and yet these faggots aren't dropping like flies. They need to hurry up.

My area was an early hot spot in New England. Everyone in masks and spraying everything down with alcohol.

Now the 2nd time around with lockdowns no one cares. Mask compliance is kinda half assed and I don’t see anyone panic buying. The government trying to tell us how many people they could have at thanksgiving was the final straw for most sane people.

It’s like there is 2 realities now. Us out in the normal world living our lives, and the Work From Homers who stay hidden away in their basements watching CNN.

Some of the Covid stuff like washing your hands is just common sense but other shit like the whole "please wait in the designated safety circles six feet away from all other patrons and wear rubber gloves while we serve you from behind glass partitions" are Talmudic humiliation rituals so that the centenarian hobgoblins that are out ruling class can get their first non Viagra assisted erections in sixty years.

Here's an article on "long covid" that we're all supposed to be so scared of now-

TL;DR it's a collection of vague, self reported symptoms that can't be directly attributed to covid and there are no studies suggesting it exists outside of people's imaginations.

I'll wear a mask even if I'm not sure it's doing any good. I thought the original point of the masks was to slow the spread and not wipe out the virus forever. But whatever. I'm beyond caring, but I don't want to get yelled at.

But, I can go the store and see people wearing masks incorrectly or wearing it around their chins while talking on their cellphones and no one says anything to them. I have a friend who owns one mask and has never washed it, yet flips out about his dad going to restaurants.

I understand Coronavirus is serious, but everything we're doing to prevent it seems like I giant excuse for people on the Internet to jerk themselves off over how much they care.
