Well, a lot of Trump's presidency was "Style over substance" since he felt safest just triggering the libs and owning the libs on Twitter than seriously shaking things up. Yes, some of it he probably couldn't have interfered in without bipartisan support for his removal but he could've made a lot more of an effort since people who dare are the ones who make history, just like Jackson shook up the establishment back in his day and Lincoln destroyed a huge chunk of the establishment in a goddamn war.I think you hit on something here. Left-wingers in the US have completely forgotten how to get shit done. What it takes to actually to do the meaningful day-to-day things that society rests upon. Current thinking is to just bitch at the manager until they change policy in some superficial move to mollify them. The problem is still there, because nobody actually did anything, but it has a fresh coat of paint in rainbow colors or whatever. Style over Substance: The Political Movement.
I think it's because of the history of the US Left. The Progressives of the early 20th century, Debs and his Socialist Party, and labor unions ended up suffering Soviet infiltration and were mostly destroyed or silenced by McCarthyism, with the result being they either became full-time Moscow puppets, supported a bunch of impotent communist groups, or became part of the Democrat establishment. The New Left in the 60s was easy to co-opt by the elite since again, they either became part of the Democrat establishment or part of impotent far-left movements which this time were even more despicable to the American people (compare early communists in the US, which had a base in places like Oklahoma, to the 70s and later communists defending cop killing gangsters and shit). They ended up totally reliant on the establishment to do anything.
Nowadays they are absolutely co-opted by neoliberalism and globalism. This started in the 90s when the US had Bill Clinton, very much a moderate and a neoliberal, sign all sorts of free trade shit. The protests against the WTO in 2000 (which had an early appearance of Seattle Antifa, but back then they were very anti-globalist) must have spooked the establishment. Occupy Wall Street was co-opted by identity politics and utopian "smoke weed all day" nonsense. Following that, the progressive left was pretty much absorbed by the consumerist neoliberal left, acting as useful idiots to them.
This is why the US Left ends up with nothing but empty feel-good promises. They promise to do things, but are total fools of the establishment. Over time, they've become the party of nothing but empty feel-good promises. You vote them because they aren't the big bad Republicans.
If anyone's going to be the "left" again, it's going to be the Republican Party since they're rapidly turning into the party opposed to the elite. While a Trump loss (it was inevitable IMO unless we had a Trump landslide) means the realignment is going to be slower, the fact remains there's a hell of a lot of people in the US who despise the coastal elite and have been screwed over by them, plus the elites have mostly abandoned the Republican Party anyway (even the Kochs IIRC aren't donating as much), so the anti-elite movement in the Republican Party is going to remain post-Trump. Just like the neoliberals in the Democratic Party had to be all "DEFUND THE POLICE", all Republicans are going to need to pander to this part of their base. It will basically replace the Religious Right part of the Republican base.
No, they expect the government to give lots of nice checks again. Hyperinflation? What's that? I don't think we're likely to get hyperinflation during the Joepedo Depression, but we're probably going to get some seriously nasty stagflation. The economy will be wrecked by lockdowns and the shuttering of countless businesses, Biden's tax rates will slow the recovery, and we'll have a massive expansion in the money supply.People wanting a second lockdown without any form of extra unemployment or stimulus in place are fucking sick.
Your Bidenbux in 2021 will be worth maybe 2/3 as much as your Trumpbux in 2020. Enjoy!
I did like how at the start of everything the Indians there were like "fuck no, we're not shutting down our casinos."Interesting deal in the PNW, btw. Yakima County had a real hard time of it July-August. Nation-leading case rates. My guess is that they didn't think ahead for accomodations for the migrant pickers and it passed through them like wildfire. Most places up here that grow a lot of fresh produce and have the cold storage facilities had the same thing happen. So they are going to have it easy going forward. It's the other parts where there has been sweet fuckall for cases (like where I live) that is going to have a bad time. Ironically, it's the rural wypipo areas, grain cattle and timber country, who hated the lockdown shit passed down by Emperor Inslee. We weren't allowed to wipe enough boogers on each other during the summer, apparently, so now we get this. Fun.
