Yeah, that happened while he was in jail, as he had no way to delegate control of the domain and was paying it year by year. Christophercantwell.net is the current monument to Cantwell's stupidity.
As a funny aside, he almost lost control of his Telegram channel for similar reasons. Apparently he may have spent money with lawyers to do this, which is typical- typically stupid. I thought libertarians were supposed to understand things like compound interest.
