I used to be a FTM transmedicalist and helped moderate a support server for these poor bastards. We had to create an invite-only room where those who had undergone SRS could talk about their results in peace, because the rest of the server was just that antagonist towards them. They would constantly make fun of/express disgust at surgery results (which I understand, because they're gruesome, but...) without a care for the people whom they called their friends living with the results of these surgeries. Imagine: you come to a group of people for support and all you get is derision, disgust, and hatred. A lot of post-operative FTMs left the server entirely and created their own support groups to get away from the pre-operative ones.
Two of the FTMs I knew more personally got phalloplasty and metoidioplasty (from Wikipedia: "the urethral plate and urethra are completely dissected from the clitoral corporeal bodies"), respectively. The one was so depressed about the phalloplasty that he actively warned other server members against getting the surgery entirely, and that his entire transition had been a mistake. I don't know where he is now, but I do know he suffered from suicidal thoughts. The other was (is?) still living with a fistula over six months after the initial surgery, but the both of us ended up leaving the server around the same time for other reasons, so I don't know how the revisions are going. I suppose I could ask, but I'm not sure I want to know.
