Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

So in a new twist...

A buddy's work is declaring their own lockdown. Immediate termination if they find out you've left the house for any reason except to get food. They've stated they will be following social media and will also issue suspensions/terminations for not social distancing or wearing a mask. They're literally debating forcing employees to hand over account passwords right now to check against privacy settings.

That's a pretty horrifying escalation. Needless to say my buddy is searching for a new job asap so he can put in his 2 weeks.
Imagine having any social media under your real name. Also imagine having a workplace that motherfucking psycho. My condolences to your friend, hope he's able to get out soon.
Okay, I translate as being strong or being a fucking wimp. Close enough?
Pretty close. Based is pretty similar to "awesome," but with an additional connotation of going against the grain or doing what you want regardless of criticism or judgement. Cringe is used to describe basically anything worthy of mockery.

Sadly without violence I'm starting to think no.
People who Listen And Believe® to The Narrative® - and who Follow The Sicence® are being conditioned to accept this "New Normal".

For example, at 7-11, I saw a "luxury face mask" for sale, with a photo of some business executive-looking guy wearing one on the packaging. Then there's that Sesame Street book I already mentioned with Elmo in a muzzle, telling little kids that "heroes wear masks". And one time a guy said IRL that wearing a "face mask" is "worth it" to "protect his family from COVID".

Also what's with all this obsession with "heroes" during this whole shitshow anyway? Like oridinary people who do their jobs as usual are suddenly "heroes" for doing so, when not before?

But hopefully - as shown by the fireworks on July 4th in LA - enough people are sick of this shit to make it stop someday. And I hope the assholes who forced this insanity on us are voted out.

Also, somebody has probably asked this but I think it bears repeating. Does anyone here know of any non-Western country pretty much having Coronavirus Derangement Syndrome? That is, are they having the same sort of lockdowns we in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, etc. are?
The Phillipines went pretty overboard.

10 years from now, I will definitely enjoy seeing how the Democrats do a 180 on the Corona lockdowns and talk about how the Republican lockdowns negatively impacted people in this country and created greater wealth inequality.

And they'll be older folks like me going "But...but your party were the ones that demanded the lockdowns" and then get called every -ist in the book for suggesting such an insane idea.
Because that's misinformation and a conspiracy theory that Democrats did anything wrong. It was all Trump's fault for failing to follow The Science that said lockdowns were unnecessary and caused massive income inequality. He never had a coherent national policy like the Democrats did. He let evil Republicans like Mike DeWine and those nasty Republicans in the Michigan state legislature get away with it and supported them every step of the way.

You are now banned from all social media platforms, your employer has been notified, and your insurance rates will go up 300% as you are a dangerous to insure.
Yea that will probably happen. The civil war has already been retconned as racist Republican slaveowners being defeated by brave progressives.
Forget that far back, they retcon their own current politicians which is why Joe Biden (okay he's pretty far back) has been at the forefront of civil rights (lol my phone autofilled it to "conspiracy") his whole career instead of being the guy who opposed busing of students to minority schools or the guy at the forefront of the "superpredator" bill that help lock up plenty of blacks or the guy with the crackhead son who supported the bill making crack cocaine carry 100x the penalty as normal cocaine.

For now I think it's had the opposite effect, and probably the intended one--to strengthen public trust in the government. No, they don't care about you or me or anyone questioning the narrative, they care about their own base/prospective base. Trust in government was fucked for years since Watergate, and 9/11, the War on Terror, or the government's role in the housing crisis/recession did nothing to resolve it. Well guess what, now you have a big mass of people slobbering all over Dr. Fauci's cock and demanding the government have more power. I'd love to see some polling on "do you trust the government" now. These people will obviously say "I don't trust Trump/the Feds" but I'm curious to see polling in California, Michigan, New York, etc. on their state government. When Joepedo seizes the White House come January, watch trust in government skyrocket among this crowd. They need more slavish loyalty in their base, and more government worship is as good as anything for them, especially since it helps ignore schisms in their own party, the blatant corruption of the DNC, and preparing for a time when Trump isn't president and they need a new way to get people to the polls beside "Orange Man Bad."

I gotta say, that’s one thing that I’ve found disturbing since the beginning of this: The sheer amount of people who just seem to need some kind of authority figure that they can rely on and believe without question. They just want some doctor or “expert” or government leader to tell them exactly what to do and expect, in the way a toddler wants their dad to tell them the status of the monsters under the bed. And they actually get upset if they don’t or can’t have that.

I heard that in India they had a lockdown in March, when police would literally beat anyone who caught outside violating it.

In Japan, the government is "socially engineering" people to accept the "new lifestyle", but there's no formal laws that arose from coronapanic yet, AFAIK.

Anyway, I think coronapanic is overall at its' worst in the West.

Coronavirus vaccine won’t mean end of public health measures, Fauci says

It is not yet clear what impact vaccines may have on transmission

-start-

As several coronavirus vaccines inch closer toward FDA approval, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert has called on the public to double down on public health measures. Dr. Anthony Fauci, in a virtual discussion with The Hastings Center on Thursday, said the eventual vaccine is meant to protect the individual from getting sick from the coronavirus, but may not prevent that person from spreading the virus to others.

Fauci, when discussing Pfizer and Moderna’s results in clinical trials, explained that the vaccines are being evaluated to see if they prevent clinically apparent disease in the individual, and also to see if it prevents severe disease in a person who was inoculated. However, it is not yet clear what impact the vaccines may have on transmission.

“We have the same issue with influenza,” Fauci said, noting that the two coronavirus vaccines are far more effective than the seasonal flu vaccine. “You can get vaccinated with influenza and you won’t get sick, but it won’t necessarily prevent you from getting infected – although you won’t know you’re infected because you’ll either get mild or no symptoms.”

The same concept applies to the eventual COVID-19 vaccine, he said.

“The issue is that you’re not going to be completely protected against a degree of infection that you might not even notice that you might be able to spread to others,” he said. “Which is the reason why the message you may have heard me say over the last couple weeks in the media is that getting vaccinated with a highly efficacious vaccine does not mean that you’re going to abandon completely public health measures.”

Much debate over mask-wearing and whether it’s beneficial to the wearer or is helpful in stopping the spread has divided the country, particularly as states reenter lockdown modes. Fauci said the public health measures, which include social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and frequent handwashing should be routine until the level of virus in the community becomes minuscule so that the risk of infection is no longer a threat.

Communication, especially as the issues become politically polarized, has been especially difficult Fauci said, adding that part of the challenge when implementing a public health policy is that it has to be an “all in this together” effort. With recent polls suggesting a decent amount of vaccine hesitancy across the nation, it doesn’t indicate that mass vaccination efforts will be a particularly easy effort.

“What we need to do, in a very clear, understandable way, is explain and I try to do this as often as I possibly can – that the speed [of vaccine development] itself is a reflection of scientific advances,” he said. “In other words, the technology of making a vaccine is not your grandfather’s technology – it’s the 21st century technology.”

He added that the federal funding and billions of dollars invested at-risk for development and pre-manufacturing orders have helped speed up the timeline by months if not years.

“Speed has nothing to do with compromising safety or scientific integrity,” he said.

As of Thursday, the U.S. had tallied over 11.6 million cases of coronavirus, and more than 251,000 deaths.

-End-

lol screw you too fauci
Ah so this is the next goalpost (((they))) are moving to about the vaccine huh? Trust me, outside of the few retards left that still worship this guy, even the production and initial distribution of the vaccine will make people stop caring entirely.

The sheer amount of people who just seem to need some kind of authority figure that they can rely on and believe without question.
Like other bullshit in Current Year, it's so cult-like.

The idea that ambitious assholes gravitate to positions of power, and that "absolute power corrupts absolutely" is being brainwashed out of those kind of people. But at least others trust the government even less than before this whole hellsih freakshow that is 2020 began.

But this dystopia may have no hope or end in sight because of how manipulative the elite are, barring some cataclysm or collapse.

Did I mention Current Year sucks?

My province's commissar has decreed a mask mandate. I don't believe anyone who says masks don't effect their workouts does intense or heavy workouts. Light sets no, but they absolutely trap sweat and get clogged and disgusting.

On a related note, many businesses are now mandated to force customers out side/delivery doors which open directly into the street for their "safety" but drivers do not expect people to appear from nowhere. I expect a lot of slip and fall accidents, and more pedestrian accidents this winter.

What's even better is how these queer anarchists and commie troons are always saying things like "liberals get the bullet too" and "hang landlords" and talking gleefully about how many people will die in their revolution but when they're actually faced with a scenario where millions will die (according to The Science) if we don't pass measures that coincidentally transfer all wealth to the elite, they just stand back and start simping for the elite. You have a golden opportunity to put your money where your mouth is and kill millions of people (including a lot of those evil boomers and fat Trump-voting trailer trash) to stop a massive, enormous increase in wealth inequality and potentially a famine in parts of the world, but instead they just scream "transfer my wealth harder Daddy Globalists".
At the beginning of the lockdowns I used to believe they were pro lockdown due to accelerationism, as in they thought if under lockdown the rich got richer while everyone else suffered it'd get more people on board with the Revolution (they made some noise about Bezos becoming a trillionaire, but it was all noise and it was back to elite simping otherwise). But no, they're actually stupid and they think everyone being massively restricted and dependent on the 1% for everything is a good idea.
My new theory is that when everything is over (as it would have been anyway), the pod people, and our psycho governers will pat themselves on the back for making hard choices and doing the right thing against all odds, and choose to believe the narrative that they were our saviors and the rest of us were anti-vaxers who only dragged out the pain and economic damage. NPR will sell the story to their loyal, follow-the-science, listeners, and Newsom, Cuomo, and Whitmor will all campaign for the presidency.
I thought Bob Iger was the worst person who'd be running for Democratic nominee after 2020. This year showed me he'd have some very stiff competition.

If anything this is further proof of how an anarchist utopia isn't possible: people in a general sense want a leader of some kind.

I live in a red county in a blue state now. I make jokes with my parents that "my county is better than yours now!"

Whenever I cross county lines, literally AT the start of the blue county, I see a plethora of paintings and signs that go like this:

"Cindy wears masks. Be like Cindy!"

"Muhammad wears masks. Be like Muhammad!"

I've met some physicians that were absolute dumbasses.

One of my regular doctors I had as a child almost killed me because he gave me a treatment plan for bacterial pneumonia when I had viral pneumonia instead. Another dr insisted I had mono even though the swab test came back negative twice (it was just regular ol tonsillitis). I was born with a medical condition and some doctor told my mother that they could cut me open to see if they could "try" fixing the issue (there was a clinical trial around that time for the issue and I believe it was like 68% of participants had to have additional surgeries do to complications of the initial surgery).

Doctors are human. A majority try to do the best work they can. Others not so much. They aren't necessarily "heroes", just humans doing their best. I blame capeshit becoming mainstream.

I'm actually starting to suspect that thing New York and a lot of other cities did where they shoved infected into nursing homes wasn't done out of stupidity but on purpose in order to create a mass wave of initial deaths they could point to to justify implementing totalitarian policies.

You're just starting to believe that?

The same shit happened in Michigan as well. Whitmer and Cuomo are authoritarian nightmares.

So my home province instituted new restrictions recently. Lynx. What bothers me the most is the banning of all religious gatherings. I haven't even been to church in YEARS and I don't see how this isn't unconstitutional, even in Canada, state of emergency or otherwise. I just read it as: all religions cancelled by the Office of the Pandemic, Ministry of Truth. This is the one restriction that's finally motivating me to look for information on anti-lockdown protests that've been taking place here.

It's too bad that there's apparent collusion by old media and social media on the topic. Protests are given scarce coverage, and all articles/segments are only done after the fact, and are carefully written so as to avoid imparting to the reader/viewer any information that could be used to take part. They also make sure to deride all protests as super-spreader events or whatever. These are the same media outlets that praised pro-BLM protests in the area as unlikely to spread the Rona just a few months ago, btw. Public officials always take care to comment that most people are willingly compliant with the orders and that refuseniks are only a small number of troublemakers. It reminds me of how authoritarian governments always deride all discontent and unrest in their countries as the product of only a small number of malcontents and that the vast majority of the people love their rule.

I know there are a lot of people like me who hate restrictions and see through the propaganda, but it's hard to connect with anyone. I don't even know how these protests are being organized. I don't know when they're happening until they're reported on after the fact. It's very frustrating being kept in the dark.
