Police investigating a chewed up human leg bone found in a park in Berlin have arrested a 41-year-old high school math and chemistry teacher on suspicion of sexually-motivated murder and cannibalism, according to German police.

The victim has been identified only as Stephen T., a 44-year-old high-voltage lineman who disappeared after meeting the math teacher on the gay hook-up website Planet Romeo, Berlin prosecutors said Friday.

An urban trekker found the flesh-free leg bone and the lineman’s other skeletal remains on Nov. 8. Police originally thought the bite marks on the bones could have been made by an animal, but now believe they are from the math teacher, whose name has not been released due to German privacy regulations.

The lineman disappeared from his apartment in Berlin’s Lichtenberg district on September 5, telling his roommate he was going to meet a friend. Police say the math teacher and the lineman exchanged several conversations in a chatroom on the Planet Romeo website. The website is not tied to cannibalism but is a popular hook-up venue.

Police then used information from the website to find the math teacher’s home where they found knives, a bone cutting saw commonly used by surgeons and a larger cooler, according to the German newspaper Bild. Investigators also found 50 pounds of sodium hydroxide which can be used to dissolve flesh and body tissue. The suspect told police he planned to use the chemical to make soap.

Germany has prosecuted several cannibals in recent years, including a police officer who was convicted of murdering a man he met on a German chat room dedicated to cannibalism in 2016, and the infamous Rotenburg cannibal Armin Meiwes who also killed and consumed a man he met online.

Yeesh, given that human flesh has often been described as tasting like a bitter pork I wonder how much seasoning he used to make the meat palatable. On the other hand, he DID gnaw on the bone like a filthy beast would instead of turning it into bone meal...

That said, the fuzz did good job using the tooth marks to confirm he was cannibalized. If they just went by the data they found on that gay dating site then it probably would've been a regular murder case.
Bite marks are junk science.
That's not exactly true, you can usually tell what kind of predator has feasted on a carcass based on the kinds of tooth marks left on bone. Hell, paleontologists can often tell what kind of predator fed on a dinosaur based on the tooth marks left on the fossil.

Hmm, you know, I'd really like to know where you got this information from...

Found the problem. It's all an honest mistake. He thought he was on Door Dash, but he was on a gay site. Common mistake. Anyone could make it.

No, they can't. They can only tell if it's a predator because marks are there EVEN THEN they can't rule out a scavenger that came along later, anything else is purely speculative. You can get certified in forensic orthodontology in 40 hours online and the field itself has literally no scientific backing to it.

It's mostly a joke that a friend of mine and I share due to "long pig" being another name for human flesh used as food and us going through a Texas Chainsaw Massacre-themed haunted house that REEKED of barbecue seasoning one Halloween season years ago. Oddly enough, Wikipedia has an example of a New York Times editor obtaining and consuming a chunk of human flesh and reviewing it under their "Individual Acts" section. They said that veal was the closest comparison they could find.
