Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

It seems to me that you'd have to thread an exceedingly fine needle to allow any sort of interactivity without reopening the way to abuse. Like, how do you stop someone who wants to reinvent CGI in the new world?

It might be easier to just start a sort of artistic movement away from applications and back toward document-based design.
More sites should do what NPR does.

I upgraded from Plasma 5.17 to Plasma 5.19 last night, and I'm really not too keen on the new styles for the resource monitor widgets:

For comparison, this is what they looked like in 5.17:

I think the alignment of the numbers relative to the labels is what ruins it for me. They're just too fucking close together.

Fair point, in a world where even judges and doctors often won't stick to their expected ethos, it's pretty much impossible to expect it from a mixed bunch of neutrals like programmers. It'd probably need to be sort of a community thing. With the current climate, I find it might actually be more possible than ever before for something like that to blossom.

I still use fvwm. I find all these new desktop environments too busy and flashy. I feel it gives you no advantage as user to get a new GUI trend thrown at you every few months, especially since there haven't been really any dramatic and interesting developments in a while. (guess there's only so many ways you can interact with a 2D interface as a biped with mouse and keyboard) Feels more like busywork, a justification for the developers to exist and have a job really. Why is it so bad in IT to just stick to a solution that works for you? I do find it hilarious though how we apparently somehow wrapped back to the flat style design of early Amiga Workbench 1.x.

The layman 20 years ago: "The future is computers! Study computers!"
High-Tech-Austists 20 years ago: "Let's design a language/API/dependency system to make things more accessible"

These two things collided into a series of tools that would allow you to design a UI, write a program, build a website etc regardless of how braindead you are, and an abundance of braindead people who bothered to learn said tools. Now being a developer, designer, or programmer doesn't automatically make you a white whale, so people come up with justification projects to keep themselves employed. At the same time, we also rarely see the rise of more Mitnicks, Torvalds, Ives because they get lost among a sea of mediocre designers doing "close enough" work quicker by relying on bad practices.

Plus CEOs constantly passing down edicts to "do more with less." It's hard to revolutionize anything when you're one of 5 people keeping a major component of a multi million dollar company's primary service offering afloat 24/7.

TLDR; "Fuck., I haven't done this particular thing since college... ah, there's a dependency that makes it so I just have to type 'dothething'. Neat." + "This solution sucks total ass but Carl's out sick and John got bullied into joining a customer meeting for the next two hours, so it's just me until 5pm and I've got 5 minutes to put out this fire before the next one reaches the fuel bay."

Why is there so much literal soy added to food these days?
Same reason corn is in everything. In the US, soy and corn are subsidized. That means farmers are given more incentive to grow lots of corn and soybeans.

Soy is actually pretty healthy if had in forms such as tofu and miso. As a junk filler? No.

In regards to the automotive industry's growing obsessions with electronics and touchscreens, I don't like how in some cars, controls such as A/C or volume, are now on touchscreens, instead of simple to use knobs and buttons in the past. It's a headache waiting to happen when the touchscreen inevitably fails, not to mention it being a hazard due to needing to pay more attention to adjust your A/C settings with a touchscreen. And touchpad controls, i.e. on Lexus's cars, are even worse in this regard.

I'm also not a fan of screens to display the speedometer and tachometer, compared to the trusty gauges of past cars.
Blame the customer. There is this obsession with providing the buyer with as much convenience as possible, even if doing so actually makes things more complicated. It's only going to get worse as the industry and governments take even more advantage of "connected devices" to provide "convenience". Smart displays are probably the fastest growing part of the market.

Shit that I could remove the battery from, shit without an FCC ID, Windows that didn’t have default Root CA’s from China responsible for reading your GSM packets or being an IKE and IKEv2 “intermediary”.

Lol, VPN? Money sink. You are rooted from the start. ARM/x86 you are 100% sandboxed. They take the hash key of every single thing you do. Go check your Java JDK’s out. If your computer has Java and XML you absolutely are exposed. Java injection through XML is butter.

Lol, good thing we are moving to UEFI. Cough.. cough... UEFI atttack.. Taiwan... Cough...

So basically. . . .let's make RUST! And then let's rewrite fucking everything in it for no goddamn reason at all!

Fuck you world.

The rise of VR headsets. Just picture yourself driving in a condensed downtown area and seeing someone j-walk the street on those lenses trying to chase whatever they're playing on. The amount of disasters that could erupt are endless.

Regular portable gaming consoles are very underappreciated and they need to make a comeback.

Who the fuck goes outside with a VR headset?

I hate how disc drives are basically getting removed from everything as the years go on.
This could've been completely avoided had research kept being done on newer forms of optical disk, but we've since basically capped out at BluRay, and since there's no competition to it there's going to practically be no more advancement other than in the archival sect which has seen newer and better forms of disk, but usually only write-once (and even those usually don't go far. Archival tape is a much bigger thing). I also see big data companies definitely not wanting consumers to have access to offline storage that's actually useful AND inexpensive.

shit without an FCC ID
are you talking about the FCC IDs that have been on computer and electronic equipment for decades to identify products? Or the unique IDs that mobile telephony equipment have had in some form or other since the 80s?

This is an interesting suggestion. Got any articles referencing the wide use of Chinese root CAs to generate fake certs to use in interception equipment? After all, you'd only have to demonstrate one or two examples of this. Should be easy.

Go look at your CA’s bruh. In fact here:

There bro, look at these fucking CA. I got fucking azurewave rooting my shit left and right via blue tooth. I this is a wiped NEW INTERNAL SSD. I went to Best Buy and decided to check what kind of CA’s they had. I found two of these installed on the display default. Our fucking phones are transmitting and receiving this shit 24/7. Python+Powershell Automation+ x86 is the only way im able to shut this shit down on my local. My I got scanned and got a DOCIS and my fucking modem of rooted.
You are fucking tagged 7 ways from Sunday bro, and this is a fucking access list. Guess what happens if you’re naughty?
You can fucking script an “any purpose” attribute on a CA dude. Like, I wish I was fucking with you. This is some gay ass shit dude. My android was just accepting link shorteners and opening rest calls in my pocket. Google will auto open any link shorteners. Any rest call sent to and from my phone with my google drive was mapped to fucking “*”

if you have Windows 10, this auto mounts your recovery drive and starts building a very complex privilege system and just fucks your reg up fam. I had like 9000 CSLIDs aliasing running admin commands.

my kindle, off for a month started sending IPv6 packets out of the near metro. So I started dorking the atf gov site for admin indexes.

I got lit the fuck up homie. They nuked me from orbit and basically exposed every single security flaw in all the major system. To me, So I’m flashing it and building against it. Stressed af, but there’s no other option bro. This is at an assembly level.

Dudes I was riding with my bro to lift and I had 50 rando devices sending and receiving gps data from my phone on bt ports. Go look at your bios dude. I’m because on my asus, I can’t shut both wireless down.

Fuck these bitch ass faggots too. OSINT fucking spooks stealing software from their old jobs.
The fact they do this to a literal nobody, means they don’t get that all of these faggot hack expose a massive back door too. We can’t fuckin google out of this one moneygrip, I don’t need to cite some faggot online. This is what I am dealing with RN. And I can’t report the breaches to the federal government because I can’t talk to anyone not too fucking stupid to get what I am saying. The fucking VA police didn’t know where to direct my call about a data breach, and local cops don’t handle money laundering organizations btw. The regulatory agencies who run the laundering bro.
Welcome to the brave new world faggots. All my futa porn is now OSINT bitches.

To top it off, me having evidence gets you nowhere because to explain to fucking anybody how fucked we are is a time investment. All the fucking retards I have to spell out “WELCOME TO OZ BITCH”. Lol it’s just a mask, just another shut down, oh government services is just online, oops our servers just cant find you sorry, go fuck yourself taxpayer.

EDIT: If you got some snarky pseudointellectual quip about this shoot it to the DM’s so I can mog you in private. I don’t care about faggy citations, I am a citation.

Holy shit, Saigon. Two posts in and you already served up a fresh (and, might I add, delicious) copypasta.

You're so far down the rabbit hole I can't tell if you're just on a whole other fucking plane of existence, or schizophrenic. Can you break this shit down for us brainlets who have yet to find God's MAC address?
