The World Ends With You gets a sequel announced after 13 years of waiting. - THE POWER IS YET UNKNOWN

I didnt know anyone was waiting. Fuck dude thats like, I was an edgy teenager when that one came out.

Its a weird game where I felt like it was made because Nintendo needed a game to put the dual screen into DS.

I kind of agree, Im kinda into that one artist Squaresoft had before Nomura, I miss the guy they had who made the artwork during like Final Fantasy 3 and shit. I want some weird monsters and some real fantasy in my Final Fantasy, its all like bro trips now. And sure thats a fantasy, I wish I could go on a bro trip but fuck I dont want to go on a bro trip with Final Fantasy.
Have you seen FF16? That's like the answer to what you're asking for at least in terms of tone.

Loved the original even replayed it this summer. Didn't play the the ports only on the DS which i think is the best way to play. Hope the sequel has some good mechanics like DS version had since they tried to push the system to the limit. Don't think it will be as great but hope is still there it will be.
Also that soundtrack is memorable as the first game.

Looks pretty cool but i bet itll take longer than 2021. I adored the first game but the combat will make or break it for me. I mean it was such a perfect fit on the ds with the touch screen. You cant recapture that magic.

>Wanting any game from modern Square
Square has been 90% garbage after merging with Enix, and 100% so in the past decade. Even though I liked the first game quite a bit, I'm not holding my breath at all for this sad to say. I've just written off Square and everything they touch entirely anymore.

Besides Dragon Quest 11 i don't think there was a single redeemable game from Square Enix. Although i feel the same about Square today i had the same feeling when i first started playing TWEWY and it just kept getting better and better after that. Only thing is left is that sequel will do the same, which i don't think will happen.

Persona 5 and its consequences have been a disaster for JRPGs.

Eh, I can see why one would think about it. The camera change def gives that feel, plus I think the art style was also changed up, but the combat is where I'm more curious since in the DS version it wasn't turn-based and more like you had to think on your feet and throw spell and attack combos on the fly.

Honestly I think it just looks...bad. I don't really think it's a game series that would work on anything other than the ds which made it pretty memorable to me. The anime doesn't look that promising either.. which apparently ties into this game? Hoping I'm wrong though.

I'm hopeful the game will turn out good but honestly the first game being as good as it was from Square Enix was such a fluke in that they got the right people together and just didn't fuck with it. The switch port looked dogshit and I really didn't like the fact that they continued Neku's story since I feel like it should've just been done but I'm glad they're moving over to (mostly) different characters but I have a feeling it'll tie back strongly in some way when I feel it'd be better off just being mostly independent storywise from the original game.

Neku's story is the KH treatment where the protagonist's story kept going on when a fucking new protagonist would be appropiate.

I gotta admit, I never paid TWEWY any mind after being told about it by a high school "troon-in-waiting" lesbian. At the time, fangirls knew how to turn anything I thought could be interesting to garbage so that's on me, I guess.

Is it actually good?

I played it at launch and really liked it. The story isn't memorable but it has mechanics I wish other games would rip off, namely negative levels. Once you hit level 10 or something you gain the ability to handicap yourself and drop your stats to what they were at previous levels in exchange to a big boost to drop rates proportional to the handicap, so grinding every drop in the game turns into a couple hours of actual challenging combat and optimization instead of 30 hours of slog.

Also the game takes play over a week and once you finish it you get an extra day which is just a complete piss take to the point where the game warns you upfront that it's not canon with the main story. It's like playing a shitpost romhack with full voice acting where all the VAs and staff are breaking the fourth wall left and right to complain about things similar to the Chrono Trigger debug room and it's pretty great.

The internet has warped my brain because I saw Nagi and the first thing I thought of was "they made a character for the programming socks crew".

I'm cautiously optimistic for this, though. Probably shouldn't be after waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3 and thinking it was nowhere near worth all the buildup.

Pretty dam hype for it. Even if its connected to KH, its going to do some interesting things to everything lore wise.

I mean the games overall concept is a battle royal to the death in purgatory. Sounds pretty rad to me.

It was more of a survive and complete your mission till 7 days.
It looked like a battle royale because all the other players fucking sucked.
