I also hope this LA outdoor dining ban is the last straw for a lot of people. I was peeking Reddit LA and I love the dissonance in soys there going THAT EVIL DRUMPFH AND MCCONNELL!!!! when the blame should squarely fall on Newsom and Garcetti.
Unfortunately, many people are quick to blame Trump, if not the Republican party in general, and feel as if anyone with a (D) after their name is an infallible deity.
But Newsom’s office told Deadline on Thursday that the order (read it
here) did not apply to entertainment industry workers, who are on the list of essential workers and thus an exception to the rule.
I wonder if the entertainment industry brought out their lobby group, attorneys, etc. to lobby for that exemption. Meanwhile, those who live paycheck to paycheck are stuck at home with no idea how they might pay their bills.
Our leaders seem to be too shortsighted to see that lockdown acceptance is far lower than back in March, the people have been growing sick of their livelihoods getting fucked with and being forced to live miserably.
I think those that aren't blindly obeying the orders realize that the March lockdowns often featured multiple months of subsequent goalpost-moving that they don't want to see again. IMO, I think any upsurge(s) Michigan experienced since the summer is partly because Whitmer kept so many businesses and activites shut down through most of the summer that people fled their houses in droves once they could legally resume the activities they had been missing. Who knows, if things had been permitted on a more gradual scale over the Spring/Summer, maybe we wouldn't be as bad off as we're being told right now.
It was a part of my regular routine that actually made me feel good and like I accomplished something.
Most people are truly creatures of habit and gravitate towards a daily routine. The sense of productivity and accomplishment that come with a good day at work, an aerobic workout, or a fun Sunday out with friends and others can do wonders for both the body and the mind. As has been mentioned numerous times, taking that away from people for months at a time is unhealthy.
Have been surprised not to see major civil disobedience/violence so far.
I think the biggest reason might be that violence would only allow both the mainstream media and Democratic officials imposing the restrictions to further the narrative that it's the right that's violent and selfish when it comes to others and the left are the ones that have everyone's best interest in mind. Sure, that's a rubbish stance, but it's what's being spun -- especially the more people believe Biden is our President-Elect.
I had to go to the hospital today and it seemed pretty much back to normal, apart from the fact that everyone wears masks and the acrylic shields at the desks.
I had to go to the hospital lab and my experience was similar in terms of the plexiglass at the check-in windows and mask wearing. Apart from a hand sanitizer station upon arrival into the building and two people performing temperature checks and COVID screenings before people were allowed further into the building, everything else was routine.
Both NYC and LA are poised to become the new Detroit at the rate they keep crippling their businesses.
At this rate, those cities could make Detroit look more appealing than either of them (and other cities based on the happenings being reported here).
People placed in nursing homes (and I mean nursing homes, not assisted living) deteriorate for this very reason.
From what I've observed, older people who have to be put into a nursing home because they can't take care of themselves frequently deteriorate quickly or even die a short time later because they see no point in living without any sort of daily purpose or reason to look forward to.
Even for younger people, the lack of anything to look forward to takes a huge mental toll on them. Sure, complaining about the lack of gym workouts, organized sports, or leisure activities may seem like grousing over first-world issues on the surface. However, these are the kind of things that allow people to maintain some sort of physical, mental, and social balance. A life without balance is unhealthy and it can be just as devastating as a sickness or disease.
