I think it's complex. You've got people who like the Democrats because they've been severely lied to by the MSM. You've got people who are hardcore commies but will probably grow out of it. You've got an elite who know they have to pretend to like the Democrats because the alternative is getting ostracised but if you ask them about the far left they are viscerally hostile to them.

Even if you despise the party as an organization it's definitely not the case that most of them would go along with putting you in a camp.

If you look at a lot of Democrats, particularly the younger and rather privileged ones, it's clear that they think they're doing the right thing and just don't understand why anyone would object to their political views because they've never actually encountered any arguments against those views. It's hard to say that they're bad people. I think the policies they support are wrong but they're not impossible to talk to and may change their minds as they get older. In fact statistically, in the US most people are left-wing up to about 30 and then move to the right.

I think this is the reason why all the doomering about Republicans being put in camps because someone like Rachel Madow ranted on her shitty show is unhelpful.
