I think we’re seeing the Bosses of the world finally deciding it’s time to remind their crying histrionic manipulative brat employees that they are not in fact the boss. This isn’t a co-op. This is a job. No one has any responsibility to check their (legally sound) decisions with you to see if you approve. I don’t think they understand that a company is going to tolerate this only so long as they think it’s good for profits. Since the absolute least productive and most destructive employees are the ones having baby fits over these things, there is no benefit to the company in retaining them.

They do realize that curly hair appears naturally in white people too? Also, while it’s highly unlikely a white person has Afro textured hair unless they are biracial, tight curls aren’t uncommon among those with Greek ancestry. For instance, Nia Vardalos is a Greek celebrity:
