I am so fucking done with this meme. The moon is not a "staging point" for Mars. it's a waste of time and fuel that makes no worthwhile difference to the trip. A lunar-orbital fuel dump might make sense if we switched to single-stage launch vehicles, but with the current methods at play, landing on the moon to "refuel" is only going to replace the fuel you spent landing on the moon in the first place, which you will then promptly spend taking back off.
To counter, there is a different reason to set up a base on the moon. Namely, testing the actual base technology. Mars will be a ton of problems in itself, and the moon acts as a good way to 'safely' test and refine the technology to be used.

I think he was meaning a majority writing down why, hence hearing word. I do wish Barret had written down why.
because god told her to

by signing on to the order thomas, alito, and barrett are basically saying we're cool with what gorsuch and kavanaugh said

maybe they're busy spending their time writing drafts on... other matters :optimistic:

Actually, no. The actual written materials occur after the deciding vote. While generally justices know the gist, their vote was not contingent on how its phrased and their reasoning can wildly differ.

I knew the Conservative judges were pissed about this stuff but wow.
I really enjoyed reading Gorsuch’s piece. It really brought home of how religious liberty has been infringed upon in some areas during the pandemic. From the salt I’ve seen on Twitter about this ruling, they are acting as though churches are getting special privileges as they imply that the churches won’t follow any restrictions (which is very much false if you read the court documents). That 10-25 person church capacity is ridiculous and I’m glad that SCOTUS ruled against those specific restrictions. By all means, it definitely is religious discrimination, especially when businesses and services are able to operate at higher capacities and churches not getting the same treatment. There comes a point where state does trample over religious liberty, and this was definitely the case. Also, I read the Sotomayor and others dissent, and it pretty much boiled down to “there’s too many cases in New York and 295,000 have already died”. Their maid defense was safety, but at this point, that rings hollow, especially since people like Cuomo have endorsed the rioters and protesters, which is many times more unsafe than Corona.

Its worth noting, SCOTUS didn't technically rule against the restrictions. They agreed to an injunction to prevent them being put into effect until such a time as the actual case can be presented and run through the lower courts.

i can think of one case where that wasn't the case. pretty big one

also they are constantly writing and having their law clerks churning out copy too that they revise and they share drafts all around before and after votes. signing on to an order without writing anything is at least not objecting to the written opinions they are concurring with, if they agree with the vote but not the opinion and they feel strongly about it, sometimes they will write their own opinion pointing that out and giving their own reasoning. scalia did that at times and thomas too

That actually is a fair point, though my inner pioneer says shoot for Mars anyway, if something goes terribly, terribly wrong, you'll be Roanoke 2.0 either way. (Actually, let's actually do that: name the first extraplenatary colony Roanoke, just in case.)

One day, when Mars has been settled enough that building a museum becomes a viable option, I want a museum of Martian exploration and colonization, and at the very center of the museum, still sitting on that fucking rock, I want the Curiosity rover right where we left it.

True, there are exceptions. Usually centered around major precedent setting cases where the justices want to be very, very precise.

Who cares about practical, short-term effects? Britain didn't think this way even if their colonies took decades to become anything more than a drain. Give us Luna base and send Russia and China a giant middle finger, it will only stimulate them to surpass you. Humanity has nothing to lose from a new space race, quite the contrary.

Who knows, maybe India will be the superpower building the first fusion powered poo in loo on Alpha Centauri. Better than wasting money on nuclear weapons and dindus.

Liked this part
I actually don't like the rhetorical style, though I am a supporter.

"Who knew public health would so perfectly align with secular convenience?" - he should drop the irony since it's a profound and professional document. It's too casual a rhetorical style for his public office. It's inappropriate...like a priest whose sermons are actually stand up routines.

Embrace the shitposting. Let it be fuel for our journey.

I find it hysterical out of the 4 rabid people who root for Biden, 2 are foreigners, 1 lost a bet and only 1 is American. Its kind of like the composition of Biden voters. Also nobody here gives a fuck about Biden. His Thanksgiving speech got like 700 views and nobody even knew he was giving a speech.
Remember Hillary Clintom selling books at a Costco several months after her 2016 loss? She was a lot more popular than Biden and few actually gave a crap about her. Biden is likely only going to be some sort of media mirage who will receive Big Brother-esque praise while serving as an advertisement and avatar for the ever-shifting chimera of establishment bullshit.

And that is a best case scenario! Once they trot out Kamala we're in for a real torment of a media campaign. Painting her as virtuous and intrepid will be like draping a feces-encrusted 3rd world prostitute in pristine red velvet and expecting people to ignore the stench. Real 'i have no mouth and must scream' territory.

And that is the best case scenario! Imagine watching your family lap that shit up, soaking in that stench and declaring it brave and stunning, and you being unable to reason with them. (Can TDS sufferers ever recover? Will they just be transferred to a new monomanical insanity and never truly regain their humanity?)

If Trump fails to succeed then we are in for what will be the most punishing decade in generations. Our only hope is to develop some kind of plague that only afflicts journalists, transvestites, and university professors...
yea our side has anime profile picture autists
I hate anime but I cannot deny the power of anime-enhanced autism. Gods peed, you weird fuckers.

I want the Curiosity rover right where we left it.
Dedicated to the unquenchable curiosity on mankind.

Hoping by then we'll all be space-faring asexual lizard cyborgs.

Only 42.5k likes in 7 hours?? What happened to the 300k likes in an hour? The bots are sleeping, I guess.

Why isn't cancer capitalized but Alzheimers is? Is it trademarked or something? I don't know. But, I am really curious what the fuck they're thinking saying this shit. You cunts.

Obviously, they're morally corrupt, and this isn't this first time this has been said. But this false hope, for the poor people who actually believe it, warrants the rope.

I assume he means cure for cancer like his foundation, where he'll just funnel money to himself and his friends and pay the researchers in nickels and dimes.

Here is the thing... normally his writings are DRY, like "Make the Sahara look like an oasis" dry. That he is being THIS fiery says he is... well, kinda pissed.

I'm glad he's pissed, he should be incensed, it's just strange to me. If he were in an oral debate or posting on a forum site it would be witty and eloquent. In my opinion the Justices shouldn't be rhetoricians, in the sense of being extravagant with respect to their purposes, not in the sense of having an original style. Though I don't see logic and rhetoric as dichotomous at all, I like Zeno's anology of logic being the closed fist and rhetoric the open palm, in that rhetoric is a refined and solicitious invitation to see things a certain way, and is used genteely, and that logic is unwilling to cajole or coax: you're either persuaded by it or not and there is no negotiation.

Happy Thanksgiving my dudes.

I wonder if we’ll see Trump somewhere with the troops, those were lovely optics the last time, he’s been a pro-military CiC.

‘Clap you stupid bastards’ Biden prob wouldn’t survive the trip, how lucky for him that Trump is bringing our boys home. Anyways, have a good day and try and stay off the Farms for a while. I’m sure Josh won’t mind. ❤️

Then let me provide a counter idea, the purpose of this decision -is- to persuade. Or more specifically, inform while noting purpose. He is clearly noting that the restrictions are arbitrary and often contradictory. He does so with rhetorical flair, both out of anger and to note to anyone who reads it that it IS arbitrary and he is making it clear that he will not stand for it.
