I don't think of classical liberalism as conservative, since it can include some forms of left-libertarianism as well. I'd more say that people like Carl of Swindon misused "classical liberal" when they aren't really.

Carl misused it because it sounded better to call himself that than a confused, half-educated idiot.

I've discovered that while many libertarians are sincere and try to be consistent in their beliefs, it turns out there's a lot of "Libertarians" who say "I just want government to stay out of peoples' lives", but what they mean is "I want government to stay out of MY life, but it's OK if they fuck with yours, and sometimes, it's even good and right that they fuck with yours. But not mine."

And often, they don't mind the government "in their lives" when it involves giving them other people's money for free. I've seen more cases of so-called "libertarians" who run various grifts for government money than I can keep track of.

That doesn't really make sense mathematically. Nowhere near 80% of people are Democrats, Biden only got 51% in a decisive victory, so either there are loads of urban Republicans or the urban population is smaller than that.

I don't have personal experience with dating in America, but I did have a relationship with someone from the EU after voting for Brexit so I do have some experience in crossing major political boundaries. She wasn't very left wing though.

I'm kind of tempted to do a social experiment now where I put myself down as a Strasserist or something else ridiculously offensive on a dating profile, but it's not such a polarised culture here.

Trump's disapproval rating is around 80% nationally in the 18-29 female democratic. Imagine what that stacks up to in LA/DC/NY. If you don't think being openly Republican is hurting your odds on a dating app in a big city IDK what to tell you.

Maybe I just had the naive view that you don't need to have the same views on Trump to be with someone. I certainly didn't cut my left wing Labour voting parents off because they hated him (not that I was anything like the crazy QAnons we're laughing at here, though). A lot of my family leans left and I get along with them fine because we're not mainacs obsessed with politics every waking hour.

I've been on this site since 2017 so I know full well that Trump was very divisive (he also got argued about a lot here because of his role in post-Brexit trade deal negotiations, and the left hated him for similar reasons). I've also seen the QAnon crazies around on thedonald.win and here, but I would say that it's not their politics that makes them unappealing as much as the fact that they're obviously seething and insane. If they were Vaush-loving Reddit tankie communists instead they'd be just as vile to the average person, at least around here.

I completely agree that acting like a loony who wants to abolish the 19th amendment isn't exactly a great route to pussy, but raving about Maoism isn't one either.

That's definitely the less common position. I've seen a few monarchists on here and they seem to utterly disdain the idea of classical liberalism in general, sharing a lot of common ground with fascists.

Read Moldbug's stuff if you want to try and understand those guys- I can't succinctly explain it because he refuses to use one word when ten would do, but he's seen as kind of a guiding light in that scene.
