Carl misused it because it sounded better to call himself that than a confused, half-educated idiot.I don't think of classical liberalism as conservative, since it can include some forms of left-libertarianism as well. I'd more say that people like Carl of Swindon misused "classical liberal" when they aren't really.
And often, they don't mind the government "in their lives" when it involves giving them other people's money for free. I've seen more cases of so-called "libertarians" who run various grifts for government money than I can keep track of.I've discovered that while many libertarians are sincere and try to be consistent in their beliefs, it turns out there's a lot of "Libertarians" who say "I just want government to stay out of peoples' lives", but what they mean is "I want government to stay out of MY life, but it's OK if they fuck with yours, and sometimes, it's even good and right that they fuck with yours. But not mine."
According to lefty Twitter memes a libertarian is just a Republican who wants to smoke weed and any dude who says he's "not very political" on a dating app is a Republican who realised admitting that isn't going to get him laid.Yep, and a lot of "libertarians" are just Republicans who are too ashamed to admit they're Republicans
A monarchy would definitely not stay out of Liberty Hangout's life, though, so he's not even a hypocrite, he just calls himself the wrong ideology entirely.I've discovered that while many libertarians are sincere and try to be consistent in their beliefs, it turns out there's a lot of "Libertarians" who say "I just want government to stay out of peoples' lives", but what they mean is "I want government to stay out of MY life, but it's OK if they fuck with yours, and sometimes, it's even good and right that they fuck with yours. But not mine." Much like how there are communists who are genuinely workers who actually believe communism will help the working class, but there's an awful lot of upper-middle class bougie NEETs who also like communism cuz they think they'll get free stuff
That seems pretty accurateAccording to lefty Twitter memes a libertarian is just a Republican who wants to smoke weed and any dude who says he's "not very political" on a dating app is a Republican who realised admitting that isn't going to get him laid.
People really overestimate how much that affects relationships. Look at how married v single people voted. Despite his boorish attitude to women Trump actually did decently well with them electorally, too. Also Reddit is full of sad sack virgins and leans heavily left.According to lefty Twitter memes a libertarian is just a Republican who wants to smoke weed and any dude who says he's "not very political" on a dating app is a Republican who realised admitting that isn't going to get him laid.
80% of America lives in cities that typically lean heavily left. Attractive women in big cities have tons of choices and won't waste time on someone they disagree with politically in 2020.People really overestimate how much that affects relationships. That doesn't really make sense mathematically. Nowhere near 80% of people are Democrats, Biden only got 51% in a decisive victory, so either there are loads of urban Republicans or the urban population is smaller than that.80% of America lives in cities that typically lean heavily left. Trump's disapproval rating is around 80% nationally in the 18-29 female democratic. Imagine what that stacks up to in LA/DC/NY. If you don't think being openly Republican is hurting your odds on a dating app in a big city IDK what to tell you. That doesn't really make sense mathematically. I don't have personal experience with dating in America, but I did have a relationship with someone from the EU after voting for Brexit so I do have some experience in crossing political boundaries. She wasn't very left wing though.
Maybe I just had the naive view that you don't need to have the same views on Trump to be with someone. I certainly didn't cut my left wing Labour voting parents off because they hated him (not that I was anything like the crazy QAnons we're laughing at here, though). A lot of my family leans left and I get along with them fine because we're not mainacs obsessed with politics every waking hour.Trump's disapproval rating is around 80% nationally in the 18-29 female democratic. Ah I see you are European. It didn't used to be this bad over here but Trump was a super divisive politician. Some people for sure don't care but a lot of the young left is completely culturally incomparable with the mainstream views of the right under Trump. It certainly works the other way as well with Republican women who won't date libs but there are less of them in the dating app age range. If you don't understand why this is a thing just look at some of the election thread, fair or not those kinds of people have become associated with Trump and the Republican brand and it's completely fucked over anyone with an ounce of sense who happens to lean right in certain dating or social circles.Maybe I just had the naive view that you don't need to have the same views on Trump to be with someone. DC is 92-5 D-R so yes, you're a fish out of water as a Republican there. That's pretty extreme even by urban standards, though. LA County is 71-27 which is very blue but not utterly overwhelming.
I've been on this site since 2017 so I know full well that Trump was very divisive (he also got argued about a lot here because of his role in post-Brexit trade deal negotiations, and the left hated him for similar reasons). I've also seen the QAnon crazies around on thedonald.win and here, but I would say that it's not their politics that makes them unappealing as much as the fact that they're obviously seething and insane. If they were Vaush-loving Reddit tankie communists instead they'd be just as vile to the average person, at least around here.Ah I see you are European. I like how ramen-haired Kent State Gun Girl is keeping the "Liberty Hangout" name and AnCap black-and-gold colors while going full NRx monarchist to trigger the shitlibs and harvest those hate clicks.
Really you're better off avoiding people who'd avoid you just for being part of a mainstream political party. Those people are nuts and will never be satisfied anyway. It seems like a lot of people have deluded themselves into thinking that admitting that they're part of 40+% of the electorate is equivalent to coming out as a necrophile.
Some NrX people argue that monarchy is the only truly libertarian position, because something something monarchs can protect rights better because they have less laws, something something they only bother the proles when they want something.I like how ramen-haired Kent State Gun Girl is keeping the "Liberty Hangout" name and AnCap black-and-gold colors while going full NRx monarchist to trigger the shitlibs and harvest those hate clicks.
It shows initiative and moral flexibility.
That's definitely the less common position. I've seen a few monarchists on here and they seem to utterly disdain the idea of classical liberalism in general, sharing a lot of common ground with fascists. Some NrX people argue that monarchy is the only truly libertarian position, because something something monarchs can protect rights better because they have less laws, something something they only bother the proles when they want something.
That's because Neoreactionaries (NrX) are what happens when Bay Area Hipsters go so far to the left they loop back around to the right. They're a rare breed and tend to be scared of places like the Farms because we don't form total intellectual circlejerks and call people mean words instead of politely talking about IQ graphs and "physically removing" ethnic diversity. That's definitely the less common position. I don't think I've ever actually seen anyone call themselves "NRX', though, even on here.
Wouldn't going so far to the left you loop back around to the right make you something like Pol Pot or some kind of Yockey/nazbol? I don't see how weird quasi-libertarianism plays into that. It's true that Pol Pot tried to keep Sihanouk around to win the support of the people, though he had to put Sihanouk under house arrest when he tried to abdicate in disgust at what was happening. That's because Neoreactionaries (NrX) are what happens when Bay Area Hipsters go so far to the left they loop back around to the right. The Farms gets your common-variety edgy right-wing Monarchists.
Read Moldbug's stuff if you want to try and understand those guys- I can't succinctly explain it because he refuses to use one word when ten would do, but he's seen as kind of a guiding light in that scene.Wouldn't going so far to the left you loop back around to the right make you something like Pol Pot or some kind of Yockey/nazbol? I had a Pol Pot apologist pop up in a thread earlier today, so they're definitely around here too. I'm familiar with pretty much every kind of political extremist except NRX.
