It is just like everything in politics, the loudest people get attention. And when you get censorious, racialized authoritarians screaming that they believe in democratic socialism, it is the first thing that comes to mind when people think of that political side.
It is more common with the "big tent" political parties of the U.S. Remember how much Obama was tarred with the label of socialism? The freakout over him starting his campaign at Bill Ayers house, the anti-american speeches from his pastor, the condemnation of his "death panels". And yet at the end of his presidency, what kind of far-left policies did he implement? It was neoliberal, with any actual left-leaning policies like DACA being temporary, kick-the-can measures.
Biden, if nothing changes, will be just the same. Probably add more people to DACA, return some regulations cut by Trump, and be praised for being "a normal president".
And that might be what gets me BDS. The media is going to laud Biden for being able to piss standing up, like Colbert saying to Obama that he wants to
"drink him in" because he is finally talking to someone
presidential. They are already praising Biden's all-female communications team like it is a momentous occasion for women.
