OP's description: "ah, i’m so bad at posting here. acknowledging this Day of Mourning from the lands of Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Potawatomi, Myaamia & Ochethi Sakowin people, aka Chicago, derived from a native word for garlic (mmm…) which is really suitable for me because I live here now 🌱🧄✨
I'm not going to lie, I was interested towards the facts in the first two panels but then she started barking about "education of muh indigenous lands" and "borders bad." A shame really, the art was cute and I was interested in where the native-named states got their names like the second panel described. Aw well.

Despite the meaning behind it, I think this piece looks really pleasing to the eye, but that could just be me.

Imagine it's just cool fanart for Animal Farm.

Not a big Black Butler fan but:
Everyone's blackwashed except for William T. Spears and that's pretty concerning lmao

bet OP doesn't like William

also DNI if Sebaciel shippers? You mean the majority of the fandom?
I'm suprised Black Butler gained a SJW fanbase, considering that most of them would scream paedophilia/fetishizing/some other shit about it hahaa
God people like this is a joke. Kuroshitsuji always have shota elements and other questionable content, how the series sexualized Ciel to sometimes having ship bait moments between Ciel and Sebastian. Hell, sebaciel shippers built the fandom in it early years. Even the manga creator have made a shota manga in the past.

These new anti fans won't admit the series wasn't made for them and rather throw a tantrum over the "freaky fans" that are into the nasty stuff. Just admit you're "freak" too for staning the same series and cut the "I'm critical of media uwu" bullshit.

I was also interested and disappointed in turn, so just to sate our curiosity I looked them all up. I knew some off the top of my head, but I definitely feel educated right now. Short version is most of them are based on Native words referring to the defining geographical features of the states or the people who lived there, usually anglicized or given new suffixes/spellings based on the people who invaded explored the area, like the Spanish and French.

  • Illinois was named by French explorers, combining the native "Illiniwek" (meaning "best people," and referring to the 10-12 tribes that lived in the area,) with the French suffix -ois for "land." So literally The Illiniwek Land, or The Land Of The Best People; Illinois.
  • Wisconsin is named after the Wisconsin River, which itself was anglicized and bastardized from the Algonquian term "Meskonsing," meaning "lies in red," because the Wisconsin river flows through the red sandstone gorge of the Wisconsin Dells.
  • North and South Dakota are very obviously named after the Sioux tribes, which were referred to as the Dakota (or Lakota depending who you ask.)
  • Michigan comes from the Ojibwe word "Mishigami," which means "large water," which makes sense because Lake Michigan is basically a landlocked ocean.
  • Minnesota comes from the Dakota (hey hey) name for their river, "Mni Sota," which means "clear blue water." A lot of places in Minnesota, as a result, have similar names because they describe the water in that area (Minnehaha, Minneiska, Minneota, Minnetonka, Minnetrista, and Minneapolis which has a Greek suffix but the Minne- part is native.)
  • Missouri's named after the indigenous Sioux tribes who were referred to as the wimihsoorita/ouemessourita by the Miami-Illinois, various translations meaning either "you oughta go down river and visit 'em" or "it connects to the side of [the Missouri River]."
  • Ohio is named for how anime girls say hello Ohio is named after the Ohio River, which was named from the Seneca word ohi:yo' which means "good river."
  • Kentucky isn't well known, but its name is most likely based an an Iroquois name meaning "on the prairie," or possibly the term "Kenta Aki," which is derived from Shawnee and means "Land of Our Fathers," or "Land Of Those Who Became Our Fathers."
  • Tennessee is believed to come from a Cherokee misappropriation of a Yuchi word that means "meeting place on the winding river," and was first recorded by a Spanish explorer who called it "Tanasqui."
  • Kansas was named for the Kansa, a Siouan tribe that lived there and were referred to in the plural as "Kansas." Arkansas was a related tribe called the Quapaw, who were referred to as the A-kansas because they were downriver opposed to the upriver Kansas. We only pronounce one like "Kan-ZASS" and the other like "Ar-kan-SAW" because some legislator in 1881 liked the French pronunciation better. Go figure.
  • Mississippi is derived from the Ojibwe word "misi-ziibi," meaning Great River. Mississippi also had some very large tribes in their area, like the Chickasaw and Choctaw. Not related to the name, I just thought that was neat.
  • Oklahoma comes from the Choctaw phrase "Okla Humma" meaning "Red People," because the Choctaw Chief Allen Wright envisioned it as an all-Indian state controlled by the US Superintendent on Indian Affairs. I also want to point out that in the Arapaho language, Oklahoma is called Bo'oobe', which is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my life.
  • Wyoming was named in 1865 after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, which was derived from the Munsee word "xwé:wamənk" meaning "at the big river flat."
  • Nebraska is an anglicized version of the Otoe words "Ñí Brásge" meaning "Flat Water," after the Platte River.
  • New Mexico was surprisingly named BEFORE Mexico won its independence from Spain and took the name in 1821. The name is derived from Nahuatl, and simply refers to the Empire of the Mexicas, which the Spaniards hoped to find in the area but didn't. Turns out the indigenous people of New Mexico aren't even related to the Mexicas/Aztec, but nevertheless the name stuck. It's like if someone came up in your house and insisted you were related to their friend Bill, you weren't, but they decided to just call you Bill Jr. anyway.
  • Nevada was half-shaded in the comic, so I looked up Nevada too. It's from the Spanish "Nevada" meaning "Snow-Covered." So it's just Spanish. Maybe the goose thought that meant Mexicans named Nevada? But Spanish comes from Spain, which was one of the races of invading explorers and not native people, so...go figure. Maybe that's why it was half-shaded.
  • Massachusetts was named after the Massachusett people, whose name probably came from the Wopanaak word "Muswachasut," which roughly means "At The Little Big Hill," which refers to the Blue Hills. It's also been represented as "Moswetuset," after Moswetuset Hummock which is a small knoll that's recognized as a historic Ponkapoag landmark where Myles Standish and Squanto met up once in the 1600s.
  • Connecticut is derived from different anglicized spellings of an Algonquian word meaning "land on the long tidal river."
  • Alabama's named after the Alabama people. Their word for themselves is "Albaamo," or plural "Albaamaha." So literally just...Alabama's named after the Alabama. Some people think it comes from the Choctaw "Alba Amo" meaning "Clearers Of The Thicket," but I guess it's really contentious and people don't really buy into that.
  • Alaska's name was introduced when Russian colonized the area, referring to the peninsula. It's based on an Aleut idiom that means "object to which the action of the sea is directed," or maybe more nicely; "The rock upon which the wave crashes."
  • Hawaii is named after its largest island, Hawai'i. It's commonly explained to be named for Hawai'iloa, a legendary figure who is said to have discovered the islands when they were first settled. In Proto-Polynesian, Hawaii pretty much means "Homeland." In the actual Hawaiian language, the state's supposed to be spelled Hawai'i, but the federal government was like "yeah no we're not doing that," so it's officially spelled Hawaii.
  • Utah is, as the comic described, derived from the Ute tribe, and said to mean "people of the mountains," but the Utes themselves actually don't have a word for that and call themselves the "Noochee." It seems to have been attributed to the neighboring Pueblo who called them "the mountain people," and the Apache word "Yuttahih," meaning "those that are higher up." In Spanish it was pronounced "Yuta," so we say it like Yoo-TAH now. So it's another case of someone moving in and renaming you, but it's more like if someone moved in and heard your neighbor call you Shitass, and that sounds kind of like Sass, so your name is Sassy now.

I think I got all of them. If there's anything I missed lmk.

+ something optimistic for the end

As a girl from Country with huge Communist affection in Cold War (Poland, PRL). I don't feel so comfortable with this. Can they read about the Great Hunger in Ukraine, or PRL ? The communist system isn't that cool, as they think. The affection of them is visible in many countries even today and I'm not saying this as a positive...

I feel like every single one of these artists would never actually be able to do any of the things they have depicted. The vast majority of them are probably happy to do these things over the internet, but if it came down to actually physically chairslamming a cop, they would most likely chicken out for fear of real life consequences. Like getting shot by said cop.

I think the people who are in love with Communism only care about the parts they think would be good for themselves, like the supposed 'everyone is equal' and 'you can just sit in the house all day and not have to work'. Bascially, they have it good under Capitalism and don't bother checking any kind of facts or figures about why Communism never works once off paper.

And didn't communism just stop working all of the sudden?
Even then, what's the point in life if all you do is just loaf around all day? Hobbies? Where are you going to get the resources for a hobby? If everyone took up a hobby, resources would drain so fast, especially if America (⅓ of a billion population) went Communist. And what country in their right mind would send aid to a self-destructed country?
10 million people have died under communism, I bet America can top that in a year thanks to the violent Antifa and BLM groups impoverishing white families to play Robin Hood for black people.

It seems so obvious that communism is a bad idea but these college kids can't put themselves in other people's shoes.

People who glorify communism like this are almost always pampered westerners who like the stuff of "equality" and "me not having to be a wage cuck" and hop on the dick of the ideology. Many time if you bring up all the atrocities to them, they either go "It'Ll WoRk ThIs TiMe" or even just straight up repeat propaganda to excuse them.

I actually would love to see one of these nu commies to actually live in the USSR or one of thr satellite states because they'd either get the gulag or bullet quick.

+ Worth to remember, that Yana wrote a shotacon manga in 2006. The manga name is Glamorous Lip.

On the talk of Communist and Nazis, I hate that you're not allowed to like their clothes from the sjws. Even if you don't condone nazis/Communists/whatever, liking their clothes automatically puts you on nazis/Communists/whatever.
Even worse if you try to like other military outfits or make a character that wears them to bring home to the point that he's evil or just works in the military in your fictional story, and you still get dragged down to "Get away from me, nazi-lover"
Hugo Boss has such a good slick fashion sense, I can't deny that. But I'm still baffled that liking something so simple as clothes- but not the people wearing it- gets you so much hatred anyway.

Ah, thank you so much! This is very interesting..
You missed Texas but that is it.
Got you on this one, cause we actually do learn this in school here. Texas comes from Tejas which is a Spanish corruption of the Caddo táyshaʼ, meaning friend, which is how the the Spanish refered to the Caddo.

To the goose's point too, I imagine that this stuff is actually taught in the respective states mentioned.

Looks like its not just mermaids getting the SJW treatment, just came across these on Twitter. Sphinx, in three different flavors (all NSFW due to nipples):

I think the styles are vaguely interesting; like those really creepy paintings of animals you'd find from the 14th century
But why does a lion with a humans face need to have tits?

Because anything can be more appealing with tits stuck on it...according to guys and lesbians. 🙄

Some old art depicts them with tits, it's not uncommon for them
