While this is definitely not what he meant, there is some validity to the basic idea. If a child has been playing chess since he was 6, and stuck with it, of course they’ll get the 10,000 hours in before the 40 year old who just started last week.
However, there are prodigies out there. The interesting part comes in when, let’s be real here, the parents or teachers or whoever gets involved and nurtures that natural gift. This can be good, a parent playing chess with their kid and they both enjoy the time together, or bad, the parent who has the kid practice on chess.com 10 hours a day even if the kid wants to play outside with friends. The ‘trophy kid’ idea.
Kevin, of course, is neither of these.
