I am assuming that the original thought was that Ethan, Faith, and Ralph were going to be living together in the new digs.
I can imagine that Ethan suggested that since he is so busy with his important job, he would not have a lot of time to be taking care of a pregnant wife and a newborn child. Also, Faith would be of no use to him in his thriving streaming venture, since she is not physically well, not old enough to go into bars with him, and he couldn't be traveling with a wife who was not only too young to run with the big dogs, but would be packing a newborn besides.
