Obligatory power level warning.

I haven't been here long, but this site has become something of a second home. I appreciate the ability to say what I want and to connect with other people who are similar to myself. It's one of very few places (internet or otherwise) I feel I fit into. I understand that you have a life to live, obligations and that this isn't reason enough to keep the site going, but I can't help but feel a keen sense of sadness at (potentially) not being able to login here anymore.

Tldr; 2020 couldn't get anymore shit could it?(:_(

Checks and balances are only employed when the thing being checked and balanced would actually be good for the people and bad for washington. Corruption doesn't get checked. Subversion doesn't get checked. It is a force that selectively and exclusively prevents the government from doing anything good. There is literally no upside.

The system is not actually employed. It never will be again. What's congress going to do, willingly take on responsibilities it has successfully absolved itself of? Why? That is in direct contradiction to their interests. Why be uncorrupt when you can get away with being corrupt?
The only good thing you could say about the system is that it took a little while for people to figure out how to corrupt it.

Probably not. The First Amendment only applies to the government, not corporations.

EDIT: For those of you chucklefucks who can’t read, here’s a basic summary of the first amendment in regards to free speech: you can legally say almost anything you want, print anything you want, or paint anything you want, and the government cannot censor you. In practice the court has applied limits to free speech both in terms of security, criminal activity, and a few other things. This basically means that the government won’t stop you from saying a bunch of different shit, but it also won’t help you say it or prevent others from acting in response to your speech. For example, you can go into a McDonalds and scream all you want about the burgers. There’s no law saying you can’t. There are laws however that do say that a business can remove people who are disturbing other customers. The cops aren’t escorting you out because you said McDonald’s is a front for a pedophile burger ring, they’re escorting you out because you’re violating other laws.
