The animation is going to look like shit. WIT studios tapped out and the replacement studio is known for being cheap and cutting corners. Enjoy everyone looking like a potato. The trailer already showed how off model and weird their faces are.

Which to be fair, is a clever way of hiding how bad your studio is. I don't think the art in trailer looks too bad, if only because it's colored, and that really does make Isayama's art just look much more, I don't know, understandable? I'm not sure, but all I know is that I can understand what's going on in certain pages when they're colored than ones that aren't.

I think the problem with Isayama's art is that it's inherently crude, and scratchy, and suffers from too much inking. It makes things look too dark, and too hard to interpret. His style isn't necessarily bad when he's taking his time, and can really fit in a lot scenes. It's just that he tends to rush things a lot, make a lot of continuity mistakes, rely too heavily on inking, and shading, and draws certain scenes so poorly you can't even tell what's happening. When people clean up his pages, and do things as simple as just color them they look a lot better, and a lot more readable.

I have little doubt the studio is going to fuck up with the animation, but at the end of the day, it's still gonna look better than the manga itself because you're at least gonna be able to tell what's fucking happening. You're not gonna understand why, or how it's happening, but you're at least gonna be able to what's going on.

Mappa varies wildly. I'm fairly sure the quiet scenes will suffer, the only fluid bits of animation in the trailer were action scenes tucked away in those blink and you miss it random scene montages. I liked Ushio and Tora but when they're not fighting it's basically just barely shaded still images talking at each other while the camera pans. Attack on Titan with Wit was beautiful to look at and the quiet scenes were directed to give them the right atmosphere and mood even if they weren't the big bombastic climax of an arc.

As for the new director he isn't huge but he did do some key animation for Redline which is a good sign, and he storyboarded the first three openings for Hunter x Hunter 2011. He definitely knows what he's doing and has a good sense of motion, but the whole team has to be good. You can have a well choreographed scene that's either basically just keyframes in the end, or it's cgi and the models suck so the fluidity doesn't help. Both of which Mappa has done, sometimes in the same show.

I actually didn't mind when Mappa did something similar for Dorohedoro, they crammed so much style into it I could forgive the shitty CG facial animations and how there's literally just two male character models they decorate differently or slap tits on for every single character. Good direction and choreography though, it's weird. There's so much love put into the backgrounds and music (a new banger ED every two episodes wtf) but the models are shit. I guess they picked their battles with the budget.

Also it's funny you should mention the issues with his art style. And by funny I mean tragic. The way you describe it I now realize he got that from copying Tsutomu Nihei. I don't think it's much of an issue with his art but his family does. Every time he made a new series his parents and wife told him it was "hard to follow" and then when he over simplified the art style several times they still said they don't get it even if they could visually follow it. Isayama points to him as his idol and inspiration, and his most treasured possession is a signed sketch by the guy, Yet Nihei's own daughter told him "why don't you write something interesting like Attack on Titan".

You know, I had a suspicion Yams would Ex Machina the Survey Corp back into existence when Hanji saw them after she got pwned. Probably some PATHS bullshit, but I could see some dead characters coming back like the finale of Endgame.

Title:Battle of heaven and earth

Ymir Fritz spawns all of the previous titan shifters to protect Eren.

Pieck gets stabbed by Willy’s sister WHT.

Armin gets taken away by a titan similar to how Casca got taken away by the apostles in The Eclipse.

Armin sees Ymir Fritz. He thinks to himself Ymir Fritz is unstoppable. He sees a crying Bert and then Colossal appears and eats Reiner’s Titan.

We see the titans of Bert, Freckle Ymir, Galliard, Marcel, Willy’s Sister and other weird looking titans.



Only Reiner’s titan got eaten

Jean saved him at last second

Karina sees it but she couldn’t get a clear view of her son being saved

She thinks Reiner is dead



Things looked very hopeless at one point

Everyone got hurt really bad, Mikasa was at her last stand



Cliffhanger is Annie, Gabi and Falco’s falcon Titan saved the day

They pulled out the alliance out of this hell at the last minute

Pieck and Armin were left behind

The shifters aren’t truly alive obviously if they were they wouldn’t fight em, they are used as weapons.

Some titan with a long tongue took away Armin.

No Eren,Historia and no Zeke in this chapter

Ymir was indeed the one who released the pigs

Levi got hurt while he was trying to save Connie, one titan was about to eat his leg but Mikasa saved him

They are all fighting inside Eren’s titan , and they use the 3dmg or hold at Eren’s ribs

Reiner was ready to fall but Jean is holding his hand kek


Mikasa saved everyone’s ass in this chapter, Reiner was about to get eaten by Ymir (Jaw) but she saves him

I love that we got to see a bunch of the previous titan shifters, some of the designs were really good. Was that a deer titan at one point? I gotta see more of that bullshit. I like how the colossal is growing out of the spines too. It didn't just have action and monsters either, I burst out laughing at the first page with the pigs and there was even a panel of tentacle rape. This chapter had it all.

Also Falco = falcon wasn't forced writing but awesome kino foreshadowing /please save us from the hack writing

I don't even know why they let him fight, he started coughing up blood just from swinging around and taking down a few titans. He's like ol' yeller on his last leg. The parallel between Levi injuring his leg saving Mikasa during the female titan fight, and Mikasa repaying it by saving him and his same leg from the titan is not lost on me and I am happy with that at least.
