How will Eren be stopped?

I love that we got to see a bunch of the previous titan shifters, some of the designs were really good. Was that a deer titan at one point? I gotta see more of that bullshit. I like how the colossal is growing out of the spines too. It didn't just have action and monsters either, I burst out laughing at the first page with the pigs and there was even a panel of tentacle rape. This chapter had it all.
The Armored Titan that looked like The Thing and the Cart Titan that looked like an Aligator were pretty cool designs. Series should have gone a shonen route where Eren and the Survey Corps have to fight bizarre unique Titan Shifters attacking the Walls instead of making humans the main opponent. Would have kept the focus on why people got into the series and have a better chance of not turning into the dumpster fire it has become.

The first episode of the anime dropped and surprisingly, it was pretty well animated at least to me anyway. They used CG for some of the Warrior titans which was noticeable but I think blended in well.

As for the new chapter, it really is getting bizarre how things are getting. The one thing I liked unironically was how much of an abomination Eren's new form is especially with the shit he can do now. I actually wonder how the fuck the series is going to end at this point since things are really getting more and more batshit each chapter.

New episode was pretty good, my faith for MAPPA has improved somewhat, at least animation wise.
Little concerned about the pacing though, they ONLY covered the Marley/Middle East war in the first episode. I can't imagine how they will fit the entire rest of the series into 12 episodes, feels like it will inevitably be 2-cour.

I enjoyed episode 1 of season 4
it really puts into perspective how weak the titans are and why marley needs the coordinate so badly

Of course I know where the story is going but for now it's nice at least

There's supposed to be 16 episodes, I'm anime only but the pacing seemed decent. I can't really think of any fat that needed to be cut. Most of the scenes at the very least helped to establish the new characters, which seems necessary given we've never seen any of them before and we'll see them for at least one more episode.

Third episode is usually when you start seeing a fall in art quality. If it keeps this quality up then your faith will be rewarded.

Im very confused with the name of one of the new characters--- also i have no idea what is happening...

The protagonist is apocalypsing 90% of the entire planet because titans are actually a race of oppressed jews who are kept in concentration camps everywhere except the island. The island is titan Israel, and everyone on there is a titan-jew. Beyond that, it's every bit as much of a narrative clusterfuck as you would expect when a dark fantasy about giants attacking and eating people is suddenly turned into a vague WWII allegory that partially blames the titan-jews for their own oppression.

No he's talking about the anime, where the MC is having a WWI flashback with people he's never met.

If the season is only going to be 16 episodes they undoubtedly cut a lot and/or just rewrote the entire thing. Regardless, I at least hope these few things are still in it.

  • Eren getting decapitated via gunshot blast, uncensored, and unedited, because I need to have it as my avatar.
  • The entire pig backstory. Please, the whole world needs to see that.
  • Eren saying the things he hates the most in the world are enslaved people and cows. That is still the best line in this entire arc, and one of the best in this entire series imo.
  • The time-travel. Just all of it.
  • The blood tests that are able to tell what race you are.
  • Sasha's last words being "meat". I'm sure that'll go over well.
  • Levi getting his ass blown sky-high.
  • Ymir rebuilding Zeke out of sand.
  • Hange getting burnt to death.
  • Armin totally not creepily jacking off to Annie, and Hitch not being offended, or disgusted at all.
  • Cripple Heaven. Yes, I'm still calling it that.
  • And lastly, the whole "ending racism by killing every other race" bullshit. That's the final key piece in watching the fandom implode in upon itself.

I keep seeing this being referenced, but having not kept up with the manga (except through this thread)... does this, like, ACTUALLY happen, or is it just a meme?

Sort of.

Hitch walks in on Armin doing something off-panel to a crystalized Annie, and then he makes incredibly suspicious statements and gestures that it's "totally not what it looks like" and how "titan memories often come to people based on touch", and bullshit like that. Hitch's amused reaction, and questionable dialogue only make the implications worse.

Edit: Here's the page in question.

Good start to the season, manages to do a lot of worldbuilding without having to dump a lot exposition via narrator. Gabi is still annoying as fuck though.

I can't remember if it was intentional but I love how the Ottoman navy was positioned just outside of the range of Zeke's first throw but still in range of their own cannons.

Don't forget Zacklay being blown to shit (hehe) by his own BDSM chair.

Yeah I would be surprised if they show that (fully), they have a TV-14 rating and the uprising arc was heavily censored because of it, people who were getting cut in half in the manga only got nicked in the stomach in the anime, for example.

I look forward to seeing this pigs thing so that I'm in on the joke.
From what you guys are describing about the manga, it sounds like it might be a good thing to condense the ending for animation. Cut out the trash and try to salvage the rest.

Can't say I approve of every shifter being CGI now, I especially don't like how they did the Jaw's head and face compared to the manga, Mappa just isn't great at face rigging and his Titan is designed around it. But the animation of Reiner's titan was as fluid as tv cgi anime can get. That was great. None of the cgi action felt floaty, though the Jaw didn't have much impact when he did stuff. The 2D parts are overall a downgrade from Wit in every way but not by that much. Overall I'm actually quite happy with it. The direction is on point and the animation ranges from good to very good. I just hope we get some proper traditionally animated action for the assault on liberio. I even liked the parts they added, most of it was already implied to have happened or be off screen like how the suicide bombers were only mentioned originally.

The line they added for Falco is curious though. If it's like the first season Isayama probably suggested it. I assume that was some paths bullshit? Eren had flash forwards before he ever got Titan powers so maybe Falco could have a flashback (unless he saw the current fight in the manga). But that was due to the Attack Titan's time bullshit ability wasn't it? I don't think the other shifters did anything like that before getting their powers. The viewpoint the bird was watching Falco from shows up in Eren's memories too. Is there a relation here? Maybe he eats Eren in the end? IDK. He got beast powers from Zeke's spinal fluid without actually killing him so maybe he takes a nonfatal bite out of Eren in the coming chapters. Of course it might just be the director being meta. "lol wasn't this show about spidermanning around with swords last season"

Honestly, my favorite thing about them besides how batshit insanely stupid they are is that Isayama keeps doubling, and tripling down on them.

There was bit of confusion if they actually were the cause of 2000 years of genocide because such a ridiculous idea for such a serious at the time series was, and still is fucking lunacy, but then he just kept on showing them, and was pretty much like "Yeah, it was them. It was the pigs. You're not just imagining it. They did cause all this.".

I seriously have no idea what is going on with that bird.

All I know is that if that bird turns out to be Eren, or some shit I'm gonna walk into the middle of the goddamn ocean, and just pretend that's where this series actually ended.
