No joke; if the government came up to you, right now; and said "We'll pay you $100 per date you go on, you won't be charged for the date either.... but you can only go on X number of dates" wouldn't you jump on that bandwagon and ride it all the way to the bank? Dates don't mean you have to have sex or anything. You can just sit there and listen to the other person bitch and whine, while you eat free food, drink free drinks, and get hella dough.

Personally, I could get behind "government sponsored" dating if it was like that.

And I spend time playing WoT and typing on Reddit because there's no fucking point to it all because the SMP is a decimated wasteland of narcissists and blimps. Never gonna be a father or a husband and it seems like we're not going to secede in my lifetime so once I reach a point where my life is comfortable (which I reached like 5 fucking years ago) there's little point to improvement beyond where I am now.

Yes, 'providing' materials is one, what about 'providing' emotional support, 'providing' a person who isn't batshit insane or, I dunno, 'providing' actual unselfish love? Provide being the person another actually wants to be with? There are lots of other things you need to 'provide' to have a healthy relationship.

If you want a woman to spend time with you just because you are giving them money/food/material goods those exist, they are called 'prostitutes'.

If you want someone to stick around and actually care about you you'll need to 'provide' lot more.

Of course @Holden, maybe I've missed it, but arranged marriages do still exist. Why not get one? Or why not do something else with your life?

It's probably his best bet, but he'd still need to bring some value to the proposition, be that family wealth, income from working, or social cache. There is a reason the wife's family pays a dowry; it's the husband who is the "valuable" party in the arrangement. He and his family need to be prepared for any and all expenses after the wedding day, and put on a good front for the community. I don't think Croatian SSDI and rambling interviews would cover that. Frankly, for someone so latently ill as Marjan to negotiate for a wife, he'd need to be the goddamn crown prince of "Southeastern Europe."

While I admit I'm not an expert on arranged marriage, I was under the impression that they were never intended to be a large-scale matchmaking service for the inept and useless, just because they deserve sex.
