Stupid Game Rumors You Heard

Some more "wishful thinking" rumors originating from /v/ I remember.

One is Konami is going to release "Metal Gear Solid V: Demon Edition" a reimagining of MGSV with Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain and the unreleased third chapter as one complete game with reimagined story elements and Richard Doyle voicing Big Boss instead of Kiefer Sutherland (and I think they said Big Boss would really be Big Boss this time, not Venom Snake.)

Also a new Uncharted game for PS5 that's a prequel where you play as a young Sully flying his seaplane around a series of tropical islands, NOT being developed by Naughty Dog.

That Uncharted rumor is recent enough that I guess it technically hasn't been disproven yet and I hope it's real, but as is often the case on /v/ it seems like people role play knowledge about games they wish existed.

CVG did an April fools gag for the first Tomb Raider by saying there was a horribly complex cheat code to (you guessed it) get Lara naked. You had to plug in a second controller, the second player would tap out the rhythm to Wannabe by the Spice Girls (which would eventually start actually playing) and the first player would make Lara dance to it. If done correctly, Lara would eventually say "Let me get out of these sweaty things" and strip, therefore freeing us horny 15 year old boys to masturbate to her gloriously naked triangular tits. Considering how obviously fake it was, it's a bit depressing how many letters they got whining that it wasn't working and pleading for more detailed instructions.

There was a secret code for Metal Gear that would give Snake pink bunny slippers and footy pajamas.

This reminded me of one.

Some kid at my school swore up and down there was a secret third ending to Metal Gear Solid where Snake escaped with both Meryl and Otacon in a helicopter or something. REX may have possibly been attacking them in the helicopter I can't remember for sure.

Edit: Upon reflection, I just realized that I think he literally just took the secret ending of Dino Crisis and said it was in Metal Gear Solid lmfao

One of my friends in elementary school told me that he knew the "secret code" to make Johnny Cage punch the female characters in the crotch instead of just doing the splits in MKII, and he swore up and down that he really did it one time but yet everytime I asked him to show me the cheat code he always "forgot" how to do it. There was another rumor involving "Nudalities" in MK Trilogy or something.

Another kid in elementary school told me that he knew the "secret code" to turn on blood and fatalities in Street Fighter, think he told me that Chun-Li kicks the guy's head off or some shit for her "fatality".

I was in middle school when the first Mario Party game came out on the N64 and this dipshit kid in my class told everyone that he already had "Mario Party 3" because his uncle worked at Nintendo or some shit so he had games that weren't even out yet, so we told him to prove it by bringing the cartridges to school but of course he never did because he was a fucking idiot.

An older kid that I shared PE with told me that his brother modded his PS1 so he could play whatever game he wanted and his system could automatically translate Japanese games too, and it never had to load anything so it would always boot straight to the game instead of having to wait thru all the loading screens. He also told me that his bro "made his own Playstation games" and that he made his own fighting game that had all the characters from Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken. I asked him if I could borrow his game but he just gave me some bullshit excuse like "oh uh well it's my brother's game and he doesn't like me loaning out his stuff".

I got a couple, some of them have already been posted tho:

The good ole' Mew is under the truck rumor

You can get the Triforce if you learn the "song of the sages" from Kaepora Gaebora by doing some convoluted series of steps

You can totally unlock Shenlong in Street Fighter 2 you just have to beat the game 100 times without dying

Sonic in Smash Melee if you beat cruel melee

The MGSV demon edition mentioned above

After you defeat the Elite Four 150 times in the postgame of Firered/Leafgreen Prof. Oak will give you the "premium Ticket" and allow you to access eight island (where you can catch Luiga & Ho-oH), nine island (Where you can catch Deoxys) and ten island (where a supposedly much harder challenge awaited, now islands where you can catch Deoxys and Lugia are in the game just locked behind events but they are not called eight and nine island, so the rumor is half true I guess?

You can access the ice key in Banjo Kazooie if you beat the entire game 100% without taking damage once

if you name your file in ocarina of time fIrE and beat the entire child part of the game in less than 2 hours and without taking damage, once you get the Master Sword, Sheik will instead give you a fire sword that can launch beams

There's a weird one I've never ran into outside a small group of people in my hometown that's always baffled me.

So Final Fantasy 3 (US). When I was an early teenager it was the new popular hotness, and a lot of us being poor kids and nerds couldn't afford it so we rented this one copy from a local mom and pop video store. There's a scene where Kefka trashes a town and murders a bunch of espers. The only thing that got discussed about that scene wasn't the content but rather one incredibly out of place line from Kefka : 'I haven't had this much fun since I made love to my dead sister'. This was a big thing to us because holy shit a video game saying something that edgy was unheard of and multiple people claimed to have seen it. Naturally nothing like that is actually in the game but it was weirdly pervasive for a long, long time.

I don't mean to pry, but were there many uh...strange...family dynamics where you're from? Do you remember how that even got started or whatever?

One rumor I heard although I'm not totally sure where, but it was probably also /v/ was that Metal Gear Solid V would be called "Birth of a Patriot" or something like that and would be another prequel following The Boss all the way from WW2 through the 1950s (when she became the first human in space, supposedly that scene would be set to "Major Tom" by David Bowie) and up to the events of MGS3.

Also, remember all those crazy theories about Death Stranding before the game came out? I watched this long documentary on Youtube hypothesizing that Sam is actually the dad from PT that killed his family and killed himself and Death Stranding is his purgatory (one of the pieces of evidence for this was the Low Roar song that has the lyrics "I took the easy way out" ie the dad's suicide in PT)

That's gotta be the most wacked out autistic theory that anyone has ever made for a game, ever.

You wouldn't believe how long and detailed it was, I'll have to see if I can track it down.

It went into stuff like the swinging lamp in the foyer of PT and how the shape of it relates to Pi and the Fibonacci sequence and how that relates to Sunny's singing of the Pi numbers and the Fibonacci sequence in MSG4 and how Kojima is trying to convey one great big message of how God is real.

I am not making any of this up.

The one thing that even got me wondering how was how supposedly the pictures on the walls of PT resemble the environments of Death Stranding.

EDIT: I think these might be it.

Mostly all the GTA rumors but those were already mentioned.

That Virtua Fighter 6 is EVER going to be released.

Back in primary school a kid in my class was That Guy who always made complete bullshit up about games. For example he said that in Tekken 3 Nina had a secret move where she used her knife and Lei had one where he used his gun, also Ogre could perform a kill fatality-like move which stole the opponent's character's moves for the next match, and at last he claimed that if you do some specific 20 button combination just before the fight loads while you picked Jin you could play as either Kazuya or Jun, depending on which button combination you input. Same went for Julia turning into Michelle, Xiaoyu into Wang, Yoshimitsu into Kunimitsu, King into Armor King, Hwoarang into Baek. Of course, when it was time to nut up, he claimed that he couldn't do it because the inputs were too hard and we had faulty controllers, when we asked him to bring his own controller from home next time he visits us he said his dad would yell at him, when we visited him he said that he was "bored" and "tired" of playing those games and wanted to play something else (read: games he didn't make up any bullshit stories about... yet).
Why did I mention Tekken specifically? Well, as you all know Tekken Tag Tournament had all those characters he claimed were "secret code unlockables" in Tekken 3, and while the PS2 version has upgraded graphics, the arcade uses the same hardware as Tekken 3 I believe. So when the local arcade got its hands on a Tekken Tag Tournament machine, he said that it was "proof" that all his bullshit about Tekken 3 was true. Of course we weren't buying his bullshit because the cabinet and the game itself said "TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT", so then he tried to bullshit by claiming that it was a "modded" version of Tekken 3 where you didn't have to input the codes to unlock the secret characters. Again, we didn't buy it.

That rumor that you could unlock the thwomp behind bars on Bower's Castle in Mario Kart 64.
I didn't grow up with an N64, but my cousins did. So whenever I'd visit, I would try to unlock him. Younger me didn't bother to see the upload date on the first video. Needless to say, I was fucking retarded.

Aside from the ones that everyone heard like Bigfoot and UFO's in GTA San Andreas, Mew in the truck, or the nude code in Tomb Raider, there were a few that were local to my school back in the day.

Dead Or Alive 2: Hardcore (PS2)
- There was this rumor that if you beat the Story Mode with all the female fighters under a certain amount of time and didn't play as any of the dudes, you'd unlock alternate costumes where the girls would fight naked. Similar to the nude code from Tomb Raider, but slightly more believable at the time

Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City (PS2)
- When these games came out, they were huge and everyone had their own wild rumors and speculation on what the next GTA game would be.

Some of these rumors were pretty much wild "My Dad Works At Nintendo" tier speculation only preteen boys would sincerely come up with, but they were interesting to say the least.

We figured since Vice City was set in the 80's, the next GTA games would be set even further in the past and the ones I remember the most were the Old West (unintentionally came true with Red Dead Redemption) and the Middle Ages (You'd steal horses and donkeys instead of cars and have swords, axes, crossbows, and arrows for your weapons)

Other ones were the possibility of superheroes like Batman and Spider-Man or groups like the Sailor Scouts and the Power Rangers appearing in a secret "Seven Star" wanted level that was unlocked by getting 100% or doing some ridiculous and inane thing. I'd assume this was inspired by the Crockett and Tubbs stand-ins chasing Tommy in Vice City, except I'm pretty sure none of us watched Miami Vice at the the time

Doom II - This is more of a personal fan theory I had as a kid as opposed to an actual schoolyard rumor but I've mentioned it before so why not? When I was nine and ten, I'd play the Windows XP ports of the Doom trilogy (Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom) and the game didn't have much in terms of story so my mind would fill in the blanks a lot of the time

I always had this theory that Doomguy was an angel or someone blessed by God to fight the forces of Hell and that the game takes place during the Book of Revelation.

I used to think that the Icon of Sin was like a demonic mech being piloted by the Antichrist and that the red square was the cockpit. I didn't find out about the Easter Egg of John Romero's Head until a few years later

There was also of course EGM'S hoax that the DOA girls in Xtreme Beach Volleyball could be made topless, which blew teenage me's mind both because their doctored screenshots looked convincing and the game was rated M for "nudity" so it seemed totally plausible, boy was I heartbroken when I learned it was a hoax.

That Zelda Ocarina of time for 3ds had, sometimes not just one, but several extra dungeons and even some kind of post-game quest kinda like in some pokemon games.

Some people were spreading rumors about the story of the game being different to the original, i even heard that Ganondorf wasn't even going to be present in the game.

Funny enough, there IS a slot reserved for Jun in Tekken 3 if you use MAME cheats. She has a portrait from Tekken 2, but uses Jin's moveset and Nina's P1 model.

Edit: added screencaps. Halfassed the round but who cares.

The most persistent rumor I heard after Vice City came out was that the next GTA would be called "Sin City" and would have a Vegas type setting and would be set in the 70s since Vice City was the "80s Miami" game, tho this actually came partially true since San Andreas had the Las Venturas island, minus the 70s period.

Yeah I know, but that was nothing near the type of crap that That Guy alleged. I know that there is another hidden character in the code called Sake I think, iirc he uses Yoshimitsu's model and Jin's moves.
EDIT: The page you linked mentions him too, nice.

I read on a GameFAQs or some other site that if you went undefeated during season mode in Wrestlemania 2000 as Kane you unlocked a flaming cage match. My friend and I endeavoured to stay up all night finishing it so we could unlock it. I fell asleep on him. I'm such a dick sometimes.
