IMO the bankruptcy revealed to the world how much of an idiot Phil is with money. While we all know how stupid Phil is when it comes to the various aspects of really anything to do with being a full functioning adult, the bankruptcy showed his incompetence in great detail. Yea sure we didn't get everything but we got to laugh at the meme levels of credit card debt, the obvious fraud and him treating getting his chapter 7 a huge win; I was in tears laughing at his dumbass. In the end that was the thing that cut Phil the most, making his already joke of a life an even bigger joke.

I remember watching some addiction show a long time ago. The subject of the episode was addicted to blackjack. The addict's reactions when losing a hand were strangely similar to Phil when losing Street Fighter or Call of Duty. "I didn't want to do that! What the fuck?! Two blackjacks in a row! You're cheating! I quit, I want a new dealer! A two?! This is bullshit! This deck is stacked!"

I also seem to remember Phil talking about buying lotto tickets. Someone said he is stupid for wasting his money. Nope. Phil told that moron that statistically if you play every week, eventually you will hit the jackpot.

In the "Langoliers" there was a character that was desperate to crash his career with no survivors. In a fucked up way Dsp pumping even more money into this game faster and faster reminds me of this.

Would Steven King write into a modern story a character ruining their life with such a mundane, outrageously expensive interest?
My most frivolous vidya purchases are just battlepasses, which for $10-15 I get tons of use out of.
And my purchases are linked to multiple rewards programs so I will get $6-8 dollars back out of say, $30 in such purchases.

In "Needful Things" there was Buster who embezzled a bunch of the town's money to gamble on horse racing. King is no stranger to addiction, it would be interesting to see him write a character with a mobile game addiction.

Perhaps a pig-roach like creature is the focus, although he’d really have to flex his writing muscles to explain how such a simple minded beast got access to a smartphone

Why would he care? Do you think he cared when Rambo got fired because of dsp? Or cared about Leanna when they went ot the hospital? Why would he care about a random stranger?

This is my favorite saga in the whole Philverse.

Not only does it show how retarded Phil is for spending money on worthless shit like this, and to keep doing so after having declared bankruptcy, it also is the single most evident instance of Phil being a scammer to his paypigs.

The idea that idiots give him hundreds of dollars to "help him during hard times"
or to "own the trolls" and then he goes and spends it on this is so satisfying. We don't even have to do anything and we win.

The quintessential lolcow experience.

Generally, those events are great for tedious work, and stress management because they just autoplay. It's mostly just the kids who grew up playing MMOs who now don't have the time to actively play something.

Whether he's spending $500 or $5000 a month at this point, it does totally fit DSP's personality that he'd be addicted to a "gambling" game that requires no skill. They say addicts are hooked on the risk of losing more than the rush of winning, but you can't even lose at these games as long as you're willing to spend all you have.

Even in being an addict, Phil found the laziest way to do it.
