Fat Acceptance Movement / Fat Girlcows

Apparently, being fat while being black is supposed to be some political statement. Fatness isn’t anything special these days when 2/3 of Americans are considered overweight.
"Fear not, fellow black people! Tis I! Your savior, Sonya Renee Taylor, founder of 'The Body is Not an Apology!'"

"I know it's the natural state of our people to be fat! Don't worry! I'll normalize it!"

"You don't need to eat healthy or exercise anymore! We know it doesn't come natural to you. Being healthy is internalized anti-blackness!"

The language of criticism as violence really is telling of what a culture of narcissism that these people live in. They live in a world that consists of positive reinforcement of their self-delusions, covered by a fig leaf of pop psychology. External reality is therefore seen as harmful, because it threatens to puncture this bubble of narcissism and expose the wounded ego. Therefore, external reality must be done away with, and the world must change to accommodate them.

Narcissism isn’t merely an issue of having an inflated ego. It’s being so enamored with an idealized projection of yourself to the exclusion of reality. It has nothing to do with self-love, but rather with being obsessed with a fantasy of one’s self. Contemporary culture has taken classic narcissism and turned it into a new moralism. What we deem goodness now is that everyone else affirms the delusions of one’s wishful thinking as objective truth. The culture of self-affirmation demands that the rest of world must affirm Narcissus’ reflection as the real thing and celebrate his dead-end obsession with it. Positive reinforcement of self delusion is now a social good. The individual and society reject what is objectively real and instead embrace infantile narcissism, where the self’s fantasy of its own perfection is reaffirmed by the uncritical and unconditional love of a universal mother.

FA doesn’t demand an end to external beauty standards, it demands those standards be changed to suit themselves. The world needs to change to suit their own subjective self-desiring.

I often forget how utterly tragic and pitiable FA followers are. I have a personal hate read who is moving to a beautiful part of the USA, just near the Adirondacks. Wonderful part of the world, I lived there myself for a time and the place is stunning. But all they can do is rhapsodise about how muh they're going to eat, all the food they can consoom. It's really, really sad. I cannot imagine having a life so empty and devoid of meaning that you end up creaming your pants over junk food.

It's completely abhorrent, people are starving to death, and we're lucky enough in the West to have access to good, reasonably priced food, but nope. We have people digging their graves with their knives and forks, bunging, pigging and gorging themselves to death. It makes me wonder: How devoid of love and stability must your life have been for food to be that huge a thing to you?

Ach well, at least I can enjoy watching them eat themselves to death over the next few years.

I’m no expert at this, so folks with more knowledge feel free to put me in my place:
I really feel like excessive weight gain should start being treated like a chronic illness. It really has all the hat marks of one.
Professionals link obesity to several other diseases but it’s not treated the way they would treat other diseases. I really feel like if hitting a certain BMI (let’s say 35 for sake of argument) should get you a series of appointments with approved nutritionists and trainers, psychologists and maybe even organizational professionals. Rather than just a Dr. Saying “lose weight”. It’s obvious that isn’t working.
Because this...this is just sad.

I'd call it closer to addiction. You don't kick a drug habit by a doctor telling you "just stop taking drugs". It's technically true, but there are underlying causes that fuel the addiction. Fixing those causes really helps to kick the addiction.

Both are treated summarily in a way, drug addiction is treated like a chronic illness, though Doctors still have limited places to send addicts (clinics for wealthier folks and 12 step programs for everyone else) but yeah, even that would be better than the current situation. I’m really beginning to think that Twinkies are the new cigarette. Sure there’s plenty of people who can just have one for a treat and walk away, but lots of folks get addicted fast.

maybe a merger of both our methods. Teach avoidance of the “drug” foods (hyperpalatable junk), moderation of bad foods (have cake for your birthday and chocolate on Easter etc.) from a young age and add in programs with (good) nutritionists and trainers and psych for the rest.

Ultimately, it's useless unless they want to change. I would imagine we would see less obesity if the fat acceptance "movement" were not a thing. Because they lie to people, and trap them, and then savage and harm those trying to leave.

I don’t know. The obesity epidemic began long before social media got the FA movement... moving. I see them as more a symptom. People have given up trying to lose weight, they see that 95% quote, hear all sorts of conflicting information from ill-trained nutritionists and trainers, they don’t think of going to shrinks because gluttony is seen as a failure of morals, not a failure of public health (like smoking and drug addiction). So you send up with a couple of choices and the two easiest is succumbing to depression or going along with the FA movement in an attempt to stave off feeling like moral failures.
Remember, we are very social creatures. If fat people feel excluded from society, and don’t see a way to join that greater society, they will splinter off or become very depressed.

I agree. I’ve known a few people over the years kick bad booze habits, or lose significant weight. All of them were unhappy before and it took a shift in thinking to sort themselves out. I truly believe that obesity and addiction is almost always rooted in unhappiness of some type. How people express that differs - some take drugs, some drink, some stop eating and some eat too much, but it all comes down to an inability to self regulate on some level. The people I know who have lost weight and let it off all had a significant shift in how they thought about themselves. One total boozehound got pregnant and literally never touched a drop again. One bloke realised he’d been over eating because he was unhappy about certain things.
I dont think the model that says it’s totally not your fault it’s a disease is helpful either. It infantilises people.
I think some people just need more help, amd a kind but firm and supportive approach using mental health help and positive support has most chance of working.
It’s also very expensive, but then so is the cost of obesity on society. And I do think being so big should be a source of some shame, becasue shame is a powerful social modifier. That shouldnt mean hating on individuals, but rather not glorifying obesity.

Has anyone watched April Lauren on youtube? She's great for the lulz. She's 350 lbs and lost ~10 lbs and was already talking about how she could see it in her face and was making her poor friend agree with her that she looks smaller. She used to be a normal weight, maybe slightly chubby, and then got married and gained 200 lbs within 2 years. Her poor husband. He looks so checked out. He's in the military and she convinced him that weight loss would be her job so she could sit on her ass all day and not have to work, while barely losing weight. Besides all this, something about her seems very off. I don't know if it's the fake over-the-top syrupy sweet persona she puts on or if she's just really... dim. It looks like she's done this whole weight loss shtick before and then vanished after she stopped losing weight and is now back at it again, bigger than ever.

What he married.

What he has to live with now.

Her youtube
She's ridiculous. So incredibly phony. I'll bet she's a crazy ass bitch to her husband. BTW, her latest lolcow move is traveling by plane during a pandemic, then disappearing and click baiting her health on her community tab. I wonder how many tries it took for her to get the most pathetic selfie ever? edit - She felt well enough to post the selfie, but tells people they have to wait til Monday for the update. (I think she posted this on a Thursday) What a fucking bitch. 99.99% of her comments are full of nothing but support. How do people fall for such bullshit?

April comes across as an air headed and depressed Army Wife. The biggest red flag is her Husband. He always looks so devoid of life. If someone put a loaded gun to his head, he would ask them to pull the trigger.

This girl has a thing for orange, wtf. Everything is orange or some shade similar to that. :cringe: she looks like Anna's Thanksgiving food.

At least they got another dog and not a kid. I dread the day she gets preggers.
Obesity impairs fertility. Alas not as much as restrictive eating disorders, bit5it does hamper it some. And her eyes being half shut?? Hah. More likwcshe has that squint thing fat people get.

April got Covid. She went to Atlanta to see her Family. April's Husband also went to see a dying relative in Utah. They both traveled during the pandemic. She's very upset about the hate she is getting online.

She's bloated because cortisone. Right.

If Fat Amy and CrazyEyed Bekah had a kid, this would be it.

How long until she earns her own thread? Her fake peppy/upbeat attitude has worn off and we will start to see more of her actual personality shine through. I predict that she uses post-covid weakness as an excuse to not exercise and gains back all the weight she lost within a couple months. Using excessive exercise to lose weight, rather than calorie restriction, is a bad idea for the morbidly obese- they get one injury or illness and stop exercising. She only lost 20 pounds in 5 months, which is pathetic for someone her size. It'll be back soon, and then she will start weight cycling like the other death fats.

Long haulers are getting more & more press especially as CoVD seems to be producing more of them than most viral infections. Long haulers = Post Viral Syndrome.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear this young lady & others who fit in the death fat category who may contract CoVD, announced they're long haulers. It's a great excuse for dropping all attempts to lose weight.

And please, I'm not dismissing Post Viral Syndrome - it's an absolute bitch to go through; rather unpredictable & not anything anybody wants to have to endure.

But it can also be damned convenient for certain types of people.
