I'm not a legal expert but I believe you would only face additional charges if you either killed the child or it could be proven that you were intending to harm the child. It probably also varies in different jurisdictions.

Since the baby is alive and he strangled Faith I think it would be hard to prove in court that his intention was to harm the child rather than/in addition to her.

Even knowing she was pregnant might not disqualify a 'crime of passion' defense.
